  1. We're planning a trip to where are we used to live (Hale, near Altrincham) this weekend and am looking to do as many caches as we can in a day. I've got a list of a few possibles so far but was wondering if anyone with more experience of caches in the area had any suggestions of caches not to be missed (not too hard ones please). My preference would be for nice easy ones for this trip and to return another time to do any series etc etc. Also, any I should avoid (I see one near a Northenden roundabout that looks a bit iffy and not in an area you would want to be seen using a GPS, for example). Thanks in advance.
  2. We absolutely loved Alchemy Quest - Brass (GCHJN1) as it has caves, tunnels through rocks, monuments, a cell for naughty geocachers (see my picture on the log) and was a stunning view too. Also, can't forget my first cache - Big Wood (GCR2M4) - the one that got me hooked.
  3. I renewed my car tax online a few weeks ago - very quick and easy and saves a trip to the Post Office with a pile of paperwork. Was very impressed - this is what e-government is all about
  4. Slightly off topic, but is Fugawi available for download (once you pay for it) or do you have to have it posted to you by snail mail?
  5. After some fiddling around I now have the maps on my Palm - looking good. Now to find out if I can buy it online and download it rather than wait for it via snail mail. Thanks for your help.
  6. Thanks everyone for your help. I've now got a shortlist with some additional ones to do if we have time. All we need now is some half decent weather.
  7. Just planning out my Wirral cache and dash tomorrow and have got my hands on an old PC which I am using to update my Palm with the cache details. I was wondering if there is an app that will grab something like the Streetmap map which is linked to from the cache page and save it on my Palm to save me carrying round bundles of OS maps? I don't need a moving map, just a map of the area within a few miles of the cache so I can get my bearings when driving and then an idea of where public right of way are when I get to the parking location. I know I can do a screen-grab and save the resulting image to the Palm (which works well), but ideally I would like something a little more automated? I thought I could use Fugawi but that seems to want a GPS connected to the Palm before it will display the map properly (I might be missing something here though).
  8. Nice one - looks like a nice quick cache and dash. Perfect for those numbers I am after
  9. Thanks Hazel - they look like good fun Quick question - is the Dee View one part of the same series as all the others are labelled "The Wirral Pub Series no1" but that one says the same thing without the "no1" (I'm probably being thick here ).
  10. Thanks HazelS. That's what I thought - it's a list of possibles which I'm still trying to fine tune - IO'd only expect to do a small proportion of them
  11. I'd agree with the previous two posters. I have an offset cache myself and it's advertised as a multi as per the guidelines Rutson quoted.
  12. We're planning a day out caching on the Wirral on Saturday with the sole aim of getting as many finds as possible to get out numbers up. I've created a bookmark list (below) with the possible candidates. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...46-da7e79c9ee8d Can anyone with more experience of the area suggest any changes / additions to the list. Basically we are looking for easy caches which can be done in minimal time and intend to return to the area to do the more involved caches in the next few weeks. Thanks in advance.
  13. We get this on our eTrex too. Our solution is to stop about 20ft from the cache and let the GPS settle. We then sometimes switch it off and back on again so it re-aquires the satellites and gives us a fresh perspective that we can double check against the first reading. Of course, some caches are more obvious than others and can be spotted quite quickly when in the general vicinity of the cache site (tell tale pile of sticks for example).
  14. I'd be up for it as long as I can be on the North team. We're between Telford and Market Drayton which I hope qualifies us for it.
  15. We usually grab something from a garage between caches as we're way too disorganised to bring anything with us.
  16. Seems to be ok again now - I guess someone has given the server a kick
  17. I currently cannot access any cache pages as they all time out with the following message. Is it just me or is everyone else having problems (all other sites are ok for me).
  18. Well said Moote. It takes a lot to apologise like this in such a public place.
  19. We just saw it on the news and it looked just like paperless caching to us.
  20. I've got Virtual PC on my Mac and it's ok for some things but I tried GCAK on it earlier this afternoon and it's painfully slow .
  21. Thanks for the kind offer. I'll pop over to a friends house as they have a PC and I can have a fiddle around with GCAK and see how I like it.
  22. My main problem is my Mac has all the software I need for everything other than this and most of it is not available on the PC - and if it is, it's not half as good, productive or easy to use [i'm not looking to get into a PC vc Mac discussion here if anyone is reading this in that way]. Calibrating my own maps sounds like a possible solution. I have not got a clue where to start with this but am off to take a quick look around now. Sounds like it could be good fun though . Thanks for the suggestions.
  23. Apologies if this has already been asked before. I am looking for software to view Ordnance Survey maps on my Palm handheld so I can leave the bulky paper maps at home. I do paperless caching courtesy of Cachemate on my Palm and it works really well so am just looking to extend this to a totally paperless solution. I've seen Fugawi which looks great for Windows users with a Pocket PC handheld. I'd like something similar that runs on a Mac and can save maps to my Palm handheld (Tungsten E2). I don't have a Windows PC so it has to be a solution that works on the Mac or bypasses the Mac somehow to get the maps on my Palm. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
