  1. There's a lot of cool Avatars out there...
  2. Yeah I've done one... And it was a FTF!! What the heck. Stanley's Revenge Cache
  3. The ranks of those that are caching in a combat zone are growing. Even at war the hobby continues. Hats off to those that are keeping the sport alive in Iraq.... I'm off to get another first find....in Iraq!!!! 1SG JC Chartier Deployed, Iraq
  4. Funny, I didn't see many Magellans in Iraq. It seems that when your life depends on a good GPS you go with Garmin, when you're just fooling around any old POS will do! "Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, One is a warrior, And he will bring the others back." Hericletus, circa 500 BC
  5. Okay this is my hot-button so excuse me while I rant. Why in the hell do you guys carry such an inadequate First Aid Kit. As with all things, before you decide to carry something sit down and figure out the reasons first. Then you should pick the items to stock. Every response above isn't a first-aid kit, its an owiee ooohhhh kit. Why do you want to carry a first aid kit? The answer should be because you feel that at some point you will find yourself in a situation that will require medical attention that can’t wait for someone else (professionals). Is a small abrasion a medical emergency? Could you wait until you get home to treat? The day you come upon a REAL medical emergency will be the day you figure out that your first aid kit IS CRAP!!! You don't need a 30lb medic bag either. Think about the area that you hike/cache. What type of emergencies will you encounter? 99% of the time you will be treating someone else and not yourself. Do you have any training in first-aid? Start off with airway, bleeding, shock. Pack accordingly. Ask around at a fire station to see what professionals carry. Take a CPR class at Red-Cross. Bottom line, don't be the guy caught out in the woods watching your buddy or child bleed to death with an open fracture because your carrying BANDAIDS and IGNORANCE!!!! "Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. 6. I left a cache in Northern Iraq, As Sulaymaniyah area, when I was there. I will officially post it when things cool down but if you're in Iraq and want to hit it, e-mail me for the coords. "Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. 7. Using Fugawi with the iQue and you can blow away ANY other Garmin product by importing imagery and 1:24,000 quads in color. "Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. 8. You leave TNLN on the fridge or phone notepad after your message to your spouse/children. "Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, One is a warrior, And he will bring the others back." Hericletus, circa 500 BC
  9. A guy came into the company and wrote on the big white board a brief description of geocaching and the website name. That was all it took for me. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  10. Poptarts are the heat. Any self respecting warrior will tell you never leave home without them!!
  11. Magellan has an app on their FTP site that will predict optimal sat configuration for any point at anytime. It also allows you to put in obstacles such as ridgelines and mountains or high buildings. Ask on the satnav newsgroup or search the FTP site. I forget the program name. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  12. SamLowrey, Oh that's good, you beat me to it. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  13. What do cars have to do with Geocaching? This about finding things and walking in the woods, oops sorry wrong thread. Now if there was a gunrack on the truck...........
  14. Guns and Player Stats. I guess I'll shut up, I want to stay in this competitive sport a while longer.
  15. GEO*Trailblazer, If you want to be a victim then go right ahead. On average in my state every year someone is killed by a cat or bear. If you choose to cary a whistle, bear repellant, or sing a happy song then by all means do it. Please give me some credit. I'm a soldier and risk assessments are a major part of my life. Check my stats, I've done a number of caches in Virginia. Did I carry a firearm there, no. I did a proper risk assessment of my environment. Do I carry while in a large group, no. I grew up in Mobile, Alabama and lived through Hurricane Cameille. Large numbers of people chose to not take any precautions because they had never experienced the force of a hurricane. The danger was real but they chose to ignore it. They paid the ultimate price. You may walk through the woods your entire life and never encounter a dangerous situation. I chose to be prepared for the dangers. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  16. Clearpath. Guns and Geocaching are related in my neck of the woods. I live in bear and mountain lion country. When I geocache alone I always go armed. I wouldn't geocache without one. We talk about what we wear, what we eat, what we pack (survival gear), why wouldn't we talk about guns? If you're scared of guns don't look here. Or here "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  17. quote:See, that's exactly what I was talking about! It's not about winning or losing or competition. It's about getting out in nature and hugging trees. No offense but for many of us its about the competition. I don't hug trees either, yuck all that sap!! "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  18. I placed a Geocache in northern Iraq, As Sulaymaniyah area, in April 03 and will post it on this site when they are allowed. For anyone going over to the "party" e-mail me for the coords and get a leg up on the competition. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  19. Well said drat19. This WAS my Geocaching experience likewise. Will I stop Geoaching without stats? Heck no. Will I still get up at 5 in the morning to get a head start on the competition? Only for first finds. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  20. I've said it before and I'll repeat. This is a competitive sport for me. I'm motivated to get out and find more because of the stats page. Sorry if that offends. I'd pay extra for a stats page. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  21. Another request for iQue 3600 Support. I'd pay the 20.00 in a heart beat. Keep up the good work. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  22. Jeremy yeah I'm digging it!! I even like your #1. Then a guy never would truly know, allow for the contrarian viewpoint of quote: I don't do stats. I would even pay an extra $5.00 a year to get the statistics. Just my .02 "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  23. Amen to that brother. Make it a members only thing also. Alas I think we are only wishing. "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  24. Home sweet home... I wonder which state has more caches above 10,000? "When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pu**y." - General(ret) Tommy Franks
  25. I've had mine since Monday. Okay for the old geocacher you're probably going to be a little disappointed. There is currently no way to automatically download waypoints, tracks, routes into the iQue. Everything is done manually. I expect somebody is going to write an app pretty soon. If you're like me and have saved tracks, waypoints, and rotes in Mapsource or National Geographic you're outa luck. NOw for the good. It really does a super job for street navigation. This will be my primary tool to get me to the attack point/parking area. It auto calculates VERY quickly, like 2-7 seconds. When you make a different turn or make a wrong turn it recalculates after about 5 seconds, also VERY fast. You get the entire USA in the package, sweet. I'll still use my Vista for the hike until two things happen. 1 I get a hardened case, and 2 OZIexplorer or Fugawi support the device. Word is that Fugawi is working on it, SDK was just released from Garmin. This device has HUGE potential. Unless you're an early adopter I'd wait 6-12 months. By then this device will be rocking. Battery life. If you turn the display brightness down and with the auto-off function(screen shuts down but the GPS stays on) we are talking hours of use. If you leave the screen on at full power and the GPS on I've been getting about 1.5 hours. The screen looks a little delicate but a screen protector fixes this. Overall If you got the money to blow or you're looking for an auto-calc route GPS this is the one IMHO.
