  1. It would appear that the hillshading has stopped working now. On any of the maps, has GC.com done something?
  2. Thanks for the prompt reply .... looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend, sitting down and developing an idea to try out.
  3. Stupidly basic question. Im new to building a cartridge, so when I have done so, how do I test it on my iPhone. Once thats done and it works as I want it to, how do I upload it to Wherigo.com .... and will that automatically get it listed on geocaching.com ... I apologise for the stupidily basic questions. You'll propably tell me there is a 'how to' somewhere. Cheers Jim
  4. its been a while since i have used the script so forgive me if im going over old groundbut didnt there used to be a button on a previous version that allowed your to compile a cache list from what is currently on view on the full map screen?
  5. Thank you for the solution. I downloaded the script yesterday for the OS maps, then 2 hours later it wouldn't work and wondered how I'd knackered it. But thanks its all a o k now. Top stuff.
  6. Im updated and running Firefox at its latest version, but when I select ordnance survey in the top right, i get a grey screen. Ive removed and reinstalled GME, but no change. The cache icons are visible, but no underlying map. Any ideas?
  7. God and all his best mates sent this. Just downloaded Greasemonkey, installed script, and now discovered other scripts to add OSM and such. Result.
  8. Be prepared to lose a lot of your life to looking at the map on the website to plan your next trip out. Be prepared to lose a lot of your life to looking at the website, for new caches. Be prepared to lose a lot of your life to planning hides. Be prepared to lose a lot of your life due to withdrawal symptoms when you can't check the website, for whatever reason. Be prepared to develop OCD, when checking 'nearest to home list', wanting to complete the pages. For the Iphone cacher like myself: If going to do a series, transpose the co-ords on to a google map and print off. Saves phone battery. And type/write down hints. Fully charge the phone. Experience tells me not to is a major error. When checking on the phone, after finishing close the app, if you don't it will continue to run the GPS element in the background, draining battery life.(when your out on a caching series) Don't get dispondent at not finding a cache. As you gain experience, you'll begin to recognise likely hiding places. Some caches are not meant to be found easily, some are more about the walk with the added bonus of caching. Just remember, it's meant to be fun. If your not enjoying it, move to a different cache.
  9. Guilt has gone now as someone came and took 3 today, and deposited 1.
  10. I've got 25 pages in my gallery of trackables coins/tbs. not one thank you. needless to say i don't bother anymore. My general curiosity keeps me looking at Tb's I have found previously. See how they are doing. I took a pic of one with my daughter and recieved back a lovely little message back. TB3Z0RQ Another I took to Lincoln Cathedral, posted a note, another lovely message, via email. TB420HD And finally a little Fly TB went and sat on a Red Arrow, photo taken, but no message. TB40CAP I take enjoyment out of doing it. A message in return is a bonus. Here, Here.
  11. 'tacky' being why I felt guilty about it. It wasn't just to put them in my own cache, albeit thats what I subsequently did. I have previously taken TB's from my own cache and deposited elsewhere to help their mission, so it's not a case of just 'stocking' in my own cache. That's perfectly OK. But when I see someone holding a ton of TBs grab mine, I prepare for disappointment. People get overwhelmed, such TBs get improperly logged or lost. Maybe you're the exception, in which case, more power to you. I wasn't holding on to them and grabbing more, I got them all in a 'oner', held for a few days while doing other caches then deposited. I now sound like I'm trying to justify myself lol
  12. There are lot of reasons to not put all your bugs in one basket, not the least of which being the GC community all knowing you're the guy who went hunting for TBs for the purpose of filling your own cache. However, if you have a safe cache (only cachers would ever touch it), and you maintain it (such as a periodic inventory of all those bugs), it's not all that horrible. Are they likely to travel now? Because it would be bad if you've stangnated a bunch of bugs. Maybe take a group photo of the collection, or do some other fun things while they're all together. People may enjoy it if they think there's a fun reason for gathering TBs into one of your caches. Even if there's actually not a good reason. Its a safe cache, but not of the beaten track, close to a major road, so hopefully they will all get picked up relatively soon. When I first placed the cache, someone deposited 7 bugs/coins and they all went quite quick. If they don't move, I will move them on myself. It was the idea of doing caches just for the bugs that I was feeling guilty about! But thanks for the advice.
  13. I recently went and did some caches before going home from work in the local area, purely on the basis of they had TB/Coins/Bulldog's in them. I then did some other caches through the week, adding mileage and then deposited them into my own cache. My question is this: Is that good form? Was it right of me to go TB 'whoring' is I put it. Doing certain caches, purely on the basis they contained TB's, knowing I was going to deposit them in my own cache later. It felt like a good idea at the time, but then my conscience got the better of me. Am I right to feel guilty, or was it an okay thing to do.
  14. Is there a guide on how to make the page include images, or web content, or inserting images taken from the web. I have done one cache, but my next cache i have an idea, but will need to include images from the web. But it won't allow me to paste images nto the description. I'm not stupid! just new to all this. Helllpppppp
  15. At some point, he gave figures of 1/81 complaints then 2/81 complaints. I would argue it would have had little or no impact on sharing and people enjoying his experience to have removed the said complaints. Removing 2/5 yes, but not from 81. As you state, we don't know the full facts, and haven't read the full correspondence and therefore we cannot draw the conclusion that the request was 'unreasonable and somewhat disrespectful'. Maybe it wasn't in the first instant. And the fact that his was willing to respect his wishes when he asked not to 'photograph the cache itself' but you can the bunker, but then was unwilling to to remove it from utube when requested. Begs the question, if the CO had said no pics at all, would he have gone ahead and done it anyway?
  16. *corrected So where is the line, why is it unacceptable? The question I asked .... why would he not remove it when asked?
  17. You respected the CO's wishes by only taking video of the bunker not the cache. So you accept his wishes and respect them. When he requests them not to be posted on youtube, you find that unacceptable. Where was the line drawn, because you obviously must have drawn one as to what are/aren't acceptable wishes by the CO. My guess, I'm basically being asked to delete hours, no days of my life! A lot of hard work has gone into this. There, thats where I suspect it was drawn. The very first post in the thread. When time had been spent producing/editing/uploading it for youtube.
  18. All i can say on that one is forum's are a place to put opinions, and I would find it unlikely they would ban anyone for expressing opinion on another site, including the 'F' bomb. As they have explained, it's not the production of the video they have banned him for, as much as they would discourage against it, they cannot control it. But the lack of acceptance of the CO's initial wishes, and following complaint to themselves about this, and then their request to remove not all the vid just the cache of the CO in question. Deemed as a lack of respect for the CO, GS and the spirit of the game. Hence they don't want to be associated. On GS's part: Heavy handed approach ? Maybe. Within their rights ? By the TOU's, definitely. On Svens part: Up to him what cache he video's and postson utube ? Definitely. Respectful approach to doing it ? Questionable. Thats where I side on GS & CO I suppose. It could all have been done in such a better manner. Like how about asking the CO BEFORE you go and film it, or before you edit. I read on another forum (same as my previous 2 posts) about he having done 51 vid'! For the length of time he had been caching , it was almost 1 vid per 3 days.! Some going that is.
  19. GS have stated they cannot control what happens elsewhere, but by posting something against the wishes of the CO, is not in the spirit of things, and I guess they want to disassociate themselves from him. Hence the ban. I infer it's more about the attitude than the action now.
  20. Sven: Quote from: JustAlan on August 30, 2011, 06:46:50 AM Think that's a bit OTT from GS. They can't say what you can/can't post on youtube (unless it infringes copyright of some sort). How many are 'many of the cache owners'? 1, 2, loads? Sandy says "many" cache owners are not happy. But I've only had one complaint from ******, nobody else has said anything. That was on page 10 Sven: Also detailed here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=280744&st=0&gopid=4823581 Incidentally don't be afraid to speak up, I tried to open up a forum of discussion on a youtube video but only received positive response. Besides currently two negative ninnies the feedback has all been good. I'm a big boy, I'll gladly take all constructive criticism or indeed positive feedback. Hit me. That was on page 5!
  21. Just for giggles, I googled 'Svens geocaching videos' and the 7th hit put me to emCache Geocache spoilers page. And reading through the forum came upon this conv. Now bear in mind Sven all along, via Cup now, has denied he believes they are 'spoiler' videos. Read on, please: scuba_2: Im not sure if I want to look at the video I have only found 600 caches so there are still many more supprises out there for me to find I remember the feeling when I found my first bolt cache, It was great so if I see all types of cache in the video then its like seeing how a magic trick is done! so Im still deciding to watch or not to watch! Sven: Quote from: scuba_2 on August 27, 2011, 10:39:58 AM Im not sure if I want to look at the video I have only found 600 caches so there are still many more supprises out there for me to find I remember the feeling when I found my first bolt cache, It was great so if I see all types of cache in the video then its like seeing how a magic trick is done! so Im still deciding to watch or not to watch! Oh certainly do not. Definitely not. I don't recommend anyone local look at it, infact I was a bit peeved when this was posted on here. I never told anyone local about the channel. I thought it would get lost in the internet. Unfortunately(?) it suffered more success than i imagined. I get angry when i meet people out caching and they say "have you seen the one under the"......"do you know about the one that's behind".... I have videod what I consider to be the creme of the crop locally. So you're going to spoil the very best or hardest hides for yourself! scuba_2: ok not video for me! sorted. The bold is my addition. He (Sven) tells scuba_2 not to watch, because it will SPOIL. QED
  22. A nice summation of what this whole issue is about ..... the spirit of the game. If Sven is so intent on putting the caches to youtube, why not recreate them in his garage or garden or out in the woods or wherever need be. At least that would hide the site, no chance of the Cache name/number being present in the vid. then it would be all about the design, ingenuity of the cache and nothing more. And still no answer to my question of why he wouldn't remove the cache from his channel when asked.
  23. Can't remember if it was this thread or another on this topic, where I said it would be interesting to hear the CO's view on all this. No confidence in that happening either. Still, it's made a few backroom lawyers out of some people here !
  24. Sven was given the chance to comply with the TOU as Groundspeak sees them and he refused thereby breaching the contract so from that line of reasoning alone he is NOT entitled to a refund. Beyond that, GS doesn't have to give a reason. His attitude, arrogance, and his own duplicity got him into this mess. If he had have been truthful about what he did he might have gotten more support here in the forums. He and you just keep digging the hole deeper. By the ensuing silence, I guess they put the spade back in the shed. Still never answered the one question of why wouldn't he remove it on initially being asked. I guess we will never know.
