  1. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=312221&st=0&p=5263845&fromsearch=1entry5263845 Still having issues? If people are advising others to avoid your hides, maybe you're doing something wrong? Or the other people are just negative a-.....well you know. There is criticism then there is just being negative.
  2. Not a coin, but a square bit I received also during a Scottish Rite Freemason's event in DC. It may be how they do it. No trackable number either. Could always poke a small whole and add a TB tag.
  3. Will not edit the post, because it actually wasn't pointed toward you but others from the past. Considering the outrageous actions of some of those officers not only as part of the MGS but also toward other members, I will not and never will back down from the fact that MGS had (past tense) a serious issue. You were one of the better ones. But MGS highly censored me and there is lots of facts to support it. In fact, was going to post them in the MGS forum but when I start, was locked out of the forum. I bring up the Maryland issue only because at times I see similar (though not exactly) the same actions and attitudes that show that organization with direct connections to the parks may be acting in a selfish manner for the betterment of their own goals (the leadership's) and hence why the park system in NJ may be going through all of this. Unlike Maryland, I do not know the history of the leadership, members, etc. Only suspicions based on things published (aka factual statements) and various actions that have been documented. However, as I said (here or another thread I forget), it is a wait and see thing. NJ parks may actually come out with a policy that favors the community as a whole, not be so selective or prohibitive. Hell, even to some extent, there were folks in Maryland that did a great job keep the parks open. My point has always been a tiny select few have spoiled it for the 99.9% of others. BTW if you want to PM about specifics, I don't mind sharing with you there, they are not appropriate for this thread or the GC forum in general.
  4. Not as new units. Garmin has a 62CS or something like that, but I think that is older too. I think everything is moving toward touch screens now. There will always be someone that asks crazy prices. Question is always are they SELLING for that much. I've seen people ask for above market price on gold/silver....not gonna happen! I don't care if it is an 1800s coin....it is worth the weight of the gold!
  5. I think it would be epic to have one in Colorado during the winter. I missed this years, but would love to do it the weekend before or after while I'm there for the chaser's convention.
  6. hahahaha. Yup, mostly referring to geocachers in this thread (but in a fun way). I like it Incredible. Gubbing!
  7. Because the message gets diluted by a lot of places not relevant to 99% of this board. If you want to do another thread for other countries...by all means, feel free to start one. But yes, this thread should focus on USA.
  8. Valentine's Day was just the reason I thought of it. I certainly don't expect a romantic picnic in the northern states this month. It would be for the spring and summer months (unless you live down here in Florida like me). Winter is more "cabin" time for the romanticism. There, pretty much just look for caches recommended in/near parks. But all suggestions welcome.
  9. ....and no, I have no idea what that is in the soup (just picked some random image).
  10. On certain events in DC, we did this: Called 'Phone Stacking' and similar idea, the first person to reach for their phone pays the entire bill. It was funny sometimes and lead to a similar side game....phone Jenga...as sometimes folks would leave the phone on, but to vibrate, and if there was a lot of txt msgs and such, eventually the stack would fall. Never thought of a penalty/reward, but it was funny on the rare occasion in happens. I posted this early in the morning, so maybe it was funnier in my rather tired state, but I like the response above too.
  11. What about other Lab Cache experiences? Or should be have a separate thread for those specific Lab Caches?
  12. I see the date has changed a few times. May mostly but July a few years pack in the PA event. I guess to avoid competing with other large events, but I don't know if I'd want N.O. in July. Well, it would be awesome for storms, but not so much for hunting caches with 1000s of others. I support support the desert SW idea. Arizona, New Mexico, it doesn't matter, but that would be very cool. May would be better for that territory, as again, July brings Monsoon season (though I would very much enjoy caching in the day and then heading to the mountains for evening storms). There seems to be a bit of support (asking this in other areas) for Georgia. I could see that too. But as others mentioned...kinda a "yet another east coast event". Reality of course is that denser populations tend to mean more volunteers and more attendee potential. That said, even a few can organize and pull off a awesome event.
  13. I kinda thought of this when I bought my 60CSX recently. Mostly got it after my Garmin GPS V antenna got messed up. I said to myself...I don't mind getting one to use and never sell, but at the price I got it, I would sell it now for $300 (yes, that would be a slight profit). But I'm not sure they have reached that price. They are popular as heck. Be curious to see how the 450 plays out. I wonder if the 450 will effect the 60series pricing.
  14. I laughed when I first heard this term...but also thought "yes, there is finally a term for this". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phubbing I thought and joked about this at a recent event. Funny how in general, we should not be rude and play with our mobile devices when in the company of others. HOWEVER!!!! Funny how we don't seem to mind when in the company of fellow geocachers. Really is funny this little subculture caching has created.
  15. Soooo..... ....I guess my cache that I will be buried with when I die won't be published. Was kinda looking forward to all the cacher's faces when they have to grab the container (and put it back) in my deadly grasp after digging me up.
  16. I had this thought (with Valentine's Day coming up) that it would be cool to have folks suggest caches (from around the country) that would make for a great little spot to take a special someone for a classic style basket picnic while grabbing a geocache. I figure there has to be some neat caches out in fields, mountain ranges, parks, farms, etc. where after (or before) grabbing a cache, two people could enjoy a bit of cheese, wine, food, etc. with a little bit of privacy and relaxation. Be sure to include the GC code of the suggested cache.
  17. I doubt the explosion of caches itself has little to do with it. Lets look at logic. Geocachers place say 100 caches. They bring many new (paying) people to the parks. Even at its worst, they have 100 additional small pieces of trash. Contrast this to the much larger explosion of mountain biking, hiking, etc. Add that to the fact that on various trails through parks, in the creeks, etc. there are probably 1000 more plastic water/soda/energy drink bottles, zip locks, energy bar wrappers, etc. Now put that in the context of the NNJG's statement of actually saying they want to work with the parks to remove existing caches and replace them with their own for the benefit of the park itself. But again, we'll see how it plays out in the end. My hopes is that the policy pretty much remains as a mostly uninterrupted process and encourages ANY cacher to place caches and does not serve to put lots of hurdles and delay the process of placing and publishing a cache. Already read about some jurisdictions that have essentially made a policy to block (through long list of conditions and requirements to non-responsive government employees). Unfortunately, it is another case of where a few geocachers trying to seek personal benefit have conspired with a select few and essentially ruined a part of the game for others. This happened a bit in Maryland, although I see some of those offenders are not in leadership positions anymore. My hope there is that some of the problems in that state will be undone through new, more open leaders.
  18. Not bad, certainly love the interview. Hopefully will still get more story sharing, links, etc.
  19. I agree. Next year it should be in Hawaii. Heck, going that far, might as well make it Guam, and almost all attendees can get a new souvenir for going
  20. If not, certainly something to suggest they have. Probably expensive to hire a shuttle service, but maybe some volunteers and a minor fee (to cover fuel costs)
  21. Nice....a GW not far from Tornado territory in May. If I'm not chasing, maybe I'll drive over for a day or two.
  22. So....after Missouri, do we know where the next GW is gonna be or is there still cities bidding for it? Who else (what regions) are seriously thinking of putting a bid in? Additionally....where would you like to go for GeoWoodstock, regardless of who is currently working on it?
  23. You have mentioned that several times in previous posts. I would like to hear from a Reviewer (any Reviewer) that this is the case. This is not to be misinterpreted as me questioning what you posted. I would just like to hear it from one of them personally. I don't think I was told in terms of a wide open acceptance. More of "we'll do it such on a case-by-case basis". I wouldn't hold your breath for a reviewer to post an affirmation. I'm not even gonna guarantee you will get an OK. I can't even confirm it because right now I am NOT an land owner.
  24. I do think that would be logical. I wonder if it should just be good habit also for event page folks to include the date in the description. I'm gonna modify mine (just published) and make sure it is listed in the next event that I will put out soon.
