  1. I just returned from a trip to TN and used RoboGEO to geotag over 1100 pictures (running Vista 32bit). I use Lightroom for my photo management and it shows me a Google map of where the picture was taken (with one click). Very nice when trying to figure out exactly where a picture was taken.
  2. Try this link: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=155835 It is not for the faint of heart, but you create a transparent map with your property lines without the 250 track point limit of a saved track. Your imagination is the only limiting factor. I have a very detailed topo with waterways and a seperate property line map with trails that I have recorded. Unlike the Garmin map, these can be shown on top of your CN because they are transparent.
  3. No prob: Thanks!! I will now change mine to these settings and start exporting again. It took 14 hours last time and the map would not work in Mapsource. I hope for better luck this time. I will let you know tomorrow. Thanks again,
  4. Are you using gpsmapedit?? If so I always let these values at default and do not mess with them. Yes, I am using gpsmapedit. Since I have changed the settings, could you be kind enough to share the defaults? Thanks!
  5. What settings should be used in cGPSMapper for: TRE size? TRE Margin? Max Elements/object? And any other settings you care to share. Thanks for any help,
  6. I did notice the note about this evening, but I could not download last night or this morning. Maybe the issue will be resolved after their maintenance.
  7. Anyone else having problems with downloading from http://seamless.usgs.gov/ today? When I request an area, it diplays "waiting for extract.cr.usgs.gov" and then a screen pops up showing SDDS error, but no error report. Thanks for any help,
  8. eaparks, Thanks for all your work, and for others that were supportive on this forum. Success at last, well almost, I didn’t follow your instructions to the letter on importing waterways (I accepted the default levels rather than use the settings plainly listed on line 4 of each import). It was late and I was tired, what can I say. Anyway, the map looks great, but I’m going to try again and expand my range a little, making sure I pay attention to the levels. You don’t waterways visible at all levels in Louisiana or the map just looks like a blue blob when zoomed out. Thanks again,
  9. http://www.ittvis.com/download/download_sp....asp?wdiid=1030 Thanks for the link, but it still requires me to register to download. Is there anyway to download without filling out all that info? I'm lazy.
  10. It doen't cost anything! In order to make the Custom Topo Maps per the instructions all the required software can be downloaded free. Which software link are you referring to?I assume we need the IDL virtural machine for a specific OS from this Page. According to the download page this is a trial and time limited: Did I also go to the wrong place? EDIT: Apparently I went to the wrong place, DL now. The XP version is 118MB, ZOW that's a lot for Hermitville terrestial wireless, DL @ 44KB/s. Thanks Hermit What link were you able to download the IDL VM for XP?
  11. I'd say yes. I have IE6 and Firefox on my XP laptop, sometimes I have them both open at once, never a problem. I like them both for different reasons. Hermit Thanks! Downloaded and about to install. I am ashamed to admit how much time I wasted tweaking settings in IE7 and ending up with my PC frozen in time while trying to display just the intro map. With Firefox, the map came up in seconds as did the areas I zoomed in to. Thanks for the help guys, I had really given up on getting the data.

  13. I found out that IE7 seems to have a problem with this website. I went ahead and loaded Firefox and it works fine. For some reason IE7 uses almost 2 GB of virtual memory. Firefox works normally and fast. I am still getting used to Firefox, but in the mean time I can make maps at will. Can Firefox be installed on the same computer as IE7 without causing great pain and agony?
  14. I can't seem to get past the opening map on the http://seamless.usgs.gov/ site. I've cleaned my temps, set the trusted sites and everything elso suggested on the site, but I end up having to reboot my system after a very long wait (nothing responds). I can access the site on my wife's computer, which is a heck of a lot slower and older than mine. Any suggestions?
  15. zilla, Mine show up in Saved Tracks, but I am using a 76CSx. Does anything show in Saved Tracks? I'm not sure it would make any difference, but do you have Track Log turned On?
  16. You might want to download Trimble’s free Planning utility from their web site. This will allow you calculate the DOP for your position at any given day. You may be getting eight satellites, but if they are not in the best geometric position, you will not get good DOP position. I am extremely pleased with the accuracy of my 76CSx. The estimated error seems to be conservative. I lay a lot of my tracks on GIS maps, so if there is a lot of wandering it becomes very apparent. I got very poor results with the 76CS in heavy foliage but am happy with the 76CSx. It works so well four of my friends have bought identical units. I do not get the wandering you mention unless I carry the unit in my pocket which causes it to be in a non vertical position as I navigate under heavy brush. As always, make sure you have the latest firmware/software.
  17. Changes to improve factory testing is in 2.80, not 2.90.
  18. My bet is there's a registry entry somewhere. I don't have the software, or I'd search for it. Also, shutting down your computer for 5 seconds or 5 hours will have the same effect on the software. Weird they even put that in there. I used the same method as mentioned by BigLarry. I did not have to edit the registry.
  19. Call Garmin direct. I ran into a slight problem and Garmin straightened it out immediately. I ask Garmin why they were not listed on the drop down list, and the rep said Garmin wanted to handle any problems themselves.
  20. [Menu][Routes][Enter], scroll to route,[Enter][Menu], scroll to Delete Route, [Enter]
  21. Press [Menu], highlight Setup, press Enter, highlight the Heading icon and press Enter to open the Heading Setup Page. Highlight the Switch to compass heading when below field and hit Enter. You can set this to your needs. I have mine set to below 2 mph for 15 sec.
  22. All information remains intact, just like an active log. You're gonna love it!
  23. I bet if you call Garmin customer support, they will straighten it out for you. Good Luck!
