  1. Check out The Wind Cries, where you GPS to the grave of Jimi Hendrix. Very weird doing this one, you see the 'strangest' people doing homage there. 'scuse me, while I kiss the sky.

  3. I guess my thought was that if you had 100 finds, you must have had 'one' opportunity to do a hide that was fair to good. Perhaps I'm spoiled out here in Seattle, where there are a very large number of small parks, with a huge opportunity to hide things. But poking through the worldwide top-25 list and finding somebody with zero hides ? Just can't see it. So it goes...
  4. I've noticed that there are a surprising number of folks with over 100 finds who haven't hidden at least one (1) cache at all. You have to think there would be at least 'someplace' they could try to hide 'something' to keep the sport growing. Heck, there are even multiple zero-hiders in the top 100 (ie, over 250 finds+hides) overall sayeth Dan Miller's Leaderboard. Given the cost in time/gas/etc. to reach 100 finds, I sure can't see how anybody could come up with any viable explanation for zero hides as well. Thoughts ?
  5. I see zero reason to either archive or temporarily disable it. It's apparently still present. People are finding it. People are enjoying it. The problem is what ? The way I read the cache page, people are "welcome" to leave more than a quarter, in which case the cacher claims to be willing to give the proceeds to charity. Note that you're not required to do 'anything', including even the take-one leave-one quarter. If it's so invasive that you don't trust the cacher, just log and leave. Sheesh... I have a general problem with the new tendency toward 3rd-party archiving of caches, but I have a particular problem with suggesting archiving this cache is somehow especially warranted. That's not cleaning up the database, that's (perceived) political correctness taken way overboard.
  6. Hmmm, first THANKS Jeremy. This will be a great addition to say the least. Now for the feedback - I found it 'dreadfully' slow searching on my Palm IIIxe. I downloaded 600kb of caches within 100 miles of zip 98023, it was something like 2500 pages and basically got too frustrated waiting for a search. - I have to admit I liked the Pathtique stuff saved in iSiloX format far better, which seems far quicker in searches, although (granted) you have the logs too. Of course the required iSilo reader is shareware after 30 days though. - perhaps you should add a feature where only the last XXX logs per cache can be specified. There are some with 70+ finders that have log entries that are pretty much waste. Personally, the last 10 logs (for me) would be plenty to have. - I definitely like the easyGPS format that can be specified, will make my life MUCH easier by letting me bulk download rather than 25 at a time the hard way. - I agree with the previous comment where it would be helpful to permit us to download a 'home' entry as well. - you have a bug in your code where if you specify a query, and don't say which cache types (ie, all types) you want, the 'save query' blows up. It would be better to have mandatory fields flagged as mandatory, much like the 'hide a cache' form does a nice job of. Looks like it'll be great. Thanks for the open beta

  8. I'd rather ask "who's not stashing". I see that there are a surprising number of folks with over 100 hides who haven't hidden one (1) cache at all. You have to think there would be at least 'someplace' they could try to hide something to keep the sport growing. Given the cost in time/gas/etc. to reach 100 finds, I sure can't see how anybody could come up with any viable explanation for zero hides as well. Sigh....
  9. I go for somewhere in the middle. I can't rightly claim a find, but it doesn't seem fair to log a no-find when the cache was obviously plundered. When I'm pretty sure I found the location, but the cache appeared obviously plundered, I "log only" on the web site (so my record of where I've been is up to date) and then stick it on my watch list just in case somebody later finds it (in which case I'd edit my log to a no-find). So far I think my numbers are something like 105 found, 1 no-find ( dadgum! ) and 4 would'a but found them plundered.
  10. Got my stuff a week or so ago in one (1) calendar day, but of course I'm only 35 miles from their location. Regardless, seems like they ship pretty quickly.
  11. I picked up a jacket at Costco for under $30 last autumn (before the rainy season starts again in Seattle) and should've grabbed the pants for $20 at that time. Jacket folds into its own pocket for carrying, has a big hood (rolls into the collar) that is perfect over a baseball hat, etc. A little spraying with some waterproofing and it's pretty good for caching. You should be able to come up with something good for $50 or so in lots of places.
  12. Is there a way to query to sort by number of visits ? I know a general SQL search ability might brown-out your server, but some kind of an advanced search (primary key, secondary key) etc. would be helpful if reasonably possible.
  13. I think it would be nice to have a list of how many visits are logged on the 'nearest caches' page. That info is already available on the individual cache page, so I'm guessing (hoping) it would be a quickie to show on the search results page.

  15. yup, there were a mess'o crabbers blocking the sign the other night. Got it no sweat tonight. Cache is getting kind of full at this point.
  16. from where you're staying, you can get a dozen in a few nights probably, especially with how light it stays in daylight savings time. In Federal Way, I liked the following, which are in order of distance from where I live (about 3 miles west of where you're staying) - S-squared (bring the screwdriver) - Ravine Rave is a great hike to the cache, and if you have time, walk to the tidal beach from where you start out (my favorite location in FW by far) - Rainbow is in Celebration Park's trails, if you want a good hike don't go into the trails via the closest entry to the cache - Dog Walk is very easy, almost too easy - Time Warp was very entertaining, nice walk along the waterfront, good restaraunt if you like seafood - Pre-Roundup One is in a beautiful lake-side park - Bronze Deer and Auburn Lookout have a great view of the valley and Mt. Ranier Points of Interest takes about an hour, but has great views of the Puget Sound from multiple locations....also has a great seafood restaraunt near the second stop (tough clues though, I'm still trying to figure out if I have the second one answered right). For what it's worth, I did Bronze Deer, Auburn Lookout, and Pre-roundupOne in 40 minutes this afternoon. You could do Rainbow or S-squared at lunch probably
