  1. For what it's worth I cache in Gloucestershire and have a vista hcx and a 550t. The hcx with waas enabled consistently places me nearer the cache than the 550t with waas. However disable waas on the 550t and the accuracy improves a lot and is the same as the hcx. Maybe a firmware issue?
  2. Cachesense for me on a blackberry z10 and also my PlayBook. Also available on other phones. I am premium and it handles everything although I use a proper gpsr whenever possible.
  3. I also have an hcx along with a 550t. I found that the hcx achieved lock much earlier than the 550 and was generally more accurate side by side when the 550 had waas enabled. Set the 550 to normal gps and there is no difference.the 550 is more advanced but better? I'm not so sure, if I hadn't got it for a bargain price, and I thought long and hard about buying it,i wouldn't have bought it. I do tend to use the hcx more as it is so much better on battery life. I am undecided still about keeping the 550 but it will probably end up being my standby gps.
  4. "That I will never log a T5 cache" Hmmmm, we will see. Bet you do.
  5. There you go, I learnt something new. I might add it would be helpful to know whether the op is using pc or Mac.
  6. Not sure if this will answer your question but on my oregon 550t to delete caches I have to use a pc,as you are aware, but when I log a cache as found on the unit it records it in the visit(?) file. Have a look in the files in main unit memory see if you can find the file, open it using a text editor, delete a found cache and then save. Reboot the unit and see if the cache you just deleted has gone from the found list.
  7. Not sure on the 10 but on my garmin I have to connect it to my pc and delete the gpx files on the main unit or the sd card. Look in the garmin folder. If using a mac don't forget to empty the trash.
  8. I don't think Wherigo was included with the OR 600. My 550t has it but I have never used it.
  9. Totally agree Nevadanick, but it's just another outlet with stock.
  10. Ok, as you are a premium member you can use pocket queries and then just drag and drop onto your gps. Firstly try and connect the etrex to your pc,it should appear in my computer, twice if the sd card is inserted. Secondly learn how to make pq's, some good guides around. Then if youre still stuck come back or search the forum.
  11. Im not completely sure about it but doesnt your gps simply overwrite any duplicate caches and so will only show it once? If so there wont be a problem.
  12. It's in the owners manual. Simply change a data field to display accuracy. Manual should be in main memory of the unit or can be obtained as a pdf download, get the owners manual not the quick start. Also have a look at the Montana wiki. Loads of good information on there.
  13. Have a look here http://garminoregon6xx.wikispaces.com/ Lots of useful information re using and set up.
  14. To be honest I don't see the problem. I just tried the new form and whizzed through it in no time at all and I was using a playbook. Simply put spoof co ords a single letter in all the text boxes save and then do all the work on the edit form. Easy.
  15. Why would you want to? Surely you would be better off loading current pq's if a premium member, sorry I didn't look to see if you are. Some of the preloaded caches may be archived and so you may be searching for something that is no longer there. Also many of the preloaded caches may not be near you or in places you are likely to visit.
  16. Do you have the tracking code of these two tb's? Don't post them here if you have. If you have, look on the tb page and it may tell you the answer. Sometimes tb owners allow hitchikers to travel alongside their own tb.
  17. Just a thought, have you marked the cache as found before selecting find next?
  18. Talkytoaster. Brilliant maps see his website. Used on my vista hcx and 550t
  19. I have the 550t and it's a very capable unit. As with any garmin handheld the basemap is terrible however load a topo map, lots of free ones online, I am in uk and can recommend talkytoasters maps. Very easy to do. Battery life is an issue for some but it's a touchscreen so will be heavier on juice, just carry spare eneloops. Profile is a nice function allowing quick changes between car or walking setups and is customisable. Photos are geotagged and of course you have paperless caching. Also consider the 450 if you don't want the camera because topos are easily loaded and its a cheaper unit and not much difference between the two.
  20. You could always add a second map, free or paid, to your unit and then switch to and fro between them and see if there is any difference.
  21. Hi, I have the 550t and like the paperless aspect of it, took a little time to get used to it coming from a vista hcx but once you get the workflow it's fine. If you read the forums you will find lots of posts re battery life but use eneloops and carry a couple of spares and it's not a problem. As for maps I would just load a map of your area onto the sd card, plenty of how to's around, I use talkytoasters uk maps. They also have the ability to load logs to your account via a pc connection. As for firmware i use 5.50 on mine, other versions on the oregon wiki, as it has good recommendations for geocaching and have no issues at all. I have windows but macs work fine providing you remember to empty the trash after deleting caches from the unit.
  22. I believe the profiles can be backed up, look in the memory of the main unit not sd card, then factory reset and overwrite the new profile with the old one. Also I know that you have reloaded the firmware but it may be worth trying a different version to see if that corrects your problems and if so go back to your favoured version, I am on 5.5 with no issues.
