  1. wow I didn't expect so many helpful replies You've given me some really good ideas to try out. Especially the thing with giving him the GPS and let him lead might spark some interest in him. I haven't done that yet and now thinking about it from his perspective - indeed it must be quite boring to just follow someone on a hunt and never lead. Also, so far I haven't chosen the geocaches according to their type or the number of favorite points. When we went to visit a certain area, I just tried to get the most as possible and those that were closer to our location. I'll do a bit more research next time before going hunting again. He's into history and geography so if I find some multies involving that, it just might make a change. And yes, I also badly need to find other fellow geocachers in my area. Hopefully I can solve this issue when a new geocaching event pops up. Thank you for the multitude of answers. I appreciate your input a lot and I'm glad I asked. Knowing I'm not alone in this situation and hearing how others cope with it has given me more hope. Best regards, Vanja
  2. This is definitely off-topic, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar situation as I do and if he/she managed to fix it.? I love geocaching, but my boyfriend sadly doesn't share my enthusiasm. Although he likes to hike and so on, he doesn't like actually having to SEARCH for the containers. He thinks it's boring and a waste of time, which saddens me so much. Occasionally he geocaches with me, to keep me company, but he gets kind of weird if I for example want to CONTINUE geocaching after just finding one container that day. His usual response is: "I didn't come here to geocache, let's just take a walk." In his view, finding one every 2 weeks or more is already more than enough. He obviously hasn't found a cache on his own either - he would never do it alone. He only goes geocaching for my sake and I appreciate it, but still, I would love to find a way -if there is one- to get him more motivated for this wonderful game. Just so he could also enjoy it as much as I do. Does anyone else experience this? How did you fix it (if at all)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me. But then again, if I switch to the official Groundspeak app (i think it's around 7 euros?), can I use offline maps with it? Because if it's only compatible with google maps, then I rather not complicate things more for me. Yesterday I finally got OSM maps to work on my phone and so now c:geo DOES switch to that app and navigates me to the cache (sort of - it seems pretty inaccurate for now). That Stygic Aura seems better, so if it's supported by Groundspeak, it would of course be great and well worth the purchase. Or does Groundspeak have their own free offline maps? just asking best regards
  4. someone on this forum even recommended me the c:geo application when I was looking for free geocaching apps :/ I contributed to the website already by purchasing the premium membership. I didn't know this website has a grudge against free apps. Well, I hope I get a helpful reply before they take it down
  5. Hello, I recently downloaded c:geo on my phone and loaded it with some nearby caches. My problem is: when I try to NAVIGATE TO one of the caches, it opens up Google Maps and tells me that navigation is not possible for my location (I live in Slovenia). Besides, I'd like to use navigation in offline mode. I managed to download offline maps for Stygic Aura, by which the navigation per se works great (if I type in coordinates and so on), but I don't know how can I make it work with c:geo.? I mean -that it would change to Aura maps instead of Google and navigate me to the cache location. Is it even possible? I read c:geo could work with OSM maps offline, but I don't know where can I download offline maps for it nor how to install them :/ Does anyone know perhaps? Thank you, V
  6. Since a few days ago I finally got my first smartphone (yay!) and I'm completely lost when it comes to setting up my GPS and making a Geocaching Application work on it :/ Any help would be really appreciated. The phone is HTC Evo 3D. I have Wi-Fi at home, but since I don't have a contract with a phone company, I can't afford to be connected to the internet outside my home. And apparently the default GPS navigation that came with my phone, doesn't function (well) without the connection. Besides there is NO option to type in coordinates anyway, so it's pretty much useless for geocaching. I saw that some people have a GPS application, that they downloaded extra off the internet, which lets them use GPS without any sort of internet connection...and also can type in coordinates. There's even Geocaching applications that show you a list of all nearby Geocaches (based on your current location). I would really really LOVE to go geocaching like that, but I don't know WHICH Apps I need (the names): There's SO many Geocaching applications, it's crazy :/ Any advice please? Which would you recommend? I have Android 2.3. And how is that GPS application, I mentioned before, called? Where could I possibly download it from? It would be great, if these applications were free - I can't really afford spending much on these things.. (and i didn't pay for my phone either..i got it as a gift). Btw - I'm not sure about this - is there any application that shows you also the waypoints (all the stages) of a multi-cache? So you don't need to type them in manually? just asking. That would be awesome! I have a premium membership, so I could download the necessary files (GMX and LOC file), but where do I put the file then? Ok well sorry for being such a noob. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank youuu
  7. I'm new to Geocaching and would really really appreciate some information about how to track caches with multiple stages. I own a Garmin Nuvi 550 and as I became a premium member here on this website, I first created a new pocket querry with almost 500 caches around my home location. After loading them to my GPS I noticed that most of the caches have multiple stages - it shows only the first stage and then I have to check the "View Description" section of the cache on the gps to see the question for the current stage and the coordinates for the next stage. My question is how to use those coordinates? Do I have to write them down from the description and go back to the main menu of my GPS and click on "Coordinates" to type them in? Does everyone do it like that and write coordinates of other stages down? I was hoping there would be a faster way of making the GPS ready for the next stage :/ Furthermore - the final stage where you have to calculate the coordinates - does everyone do it manually on paper and then input them into the GPS? Please if someone could tell me about finding these multi-stage caches and how to make it simpler to input the coordinates, that would be great. Is there no app where you could just insert the answers to the questions (numbers) and it would automatically calculate the coordinates? Seems to me, I would have more chances to find it that way hehe Thank you for any help. Kind regards, Vanja
