  1. Just had another day out with Cachemate. Combined with Memory Map and Tomtom etc... all sharing vis GPS Gate, what else does a traveller and a cacher want in life. Gets me everywhere I want (caching and non-caching) and allows records of all found to be kept and sorted. Still have the problem of Cachemate exports to html needing a soft reset to get it to do it properly, but I haven't tried the hard reset and rebuild yet
  2. It was touched on here, but I still haven't had chance (or the time !!!) to see MioMap in action.
  3. Don't leave it too long or there'll be more
  4. Well done Golem, it's now back on my list of things to do before I keel over !!!
  5. Two more added to the Wirral bookmark list last night, so it now tops 100 Only 3 I haven't done
  6. The nearest to that I got was setting a series, only to find just before I went to get them published, someone else had set one 58 feet from one of mine. Having said that, my replacement location gave a view of the subject area from a position not normally seen, so a benefit in the end. Nothing as frustrating as yours though. Good luck with it.
  7. Just for the fun of it, I've created a bookmark list of all the caches on the Wirral. Wirral Caches This was done by using Caches along a route, with no filters and a search distance of 4.5 miles either side of the route. The things we do when bored !!! Should be out caching, not stuck in front of a pc on a Saturday afternoon
  8. The Golem is obviously keen to resurect his preciousssssss Well done on the speedy recovery work.
  9. In theory, using MM 2004, you should be able to get virtually the whole of the UK on a 4GB, but this would not leave a lot of space for the PDA to make use of for other applications and file swapping etc.... Mental note ........... will try it and see. Doh ........... wrong MM

  11. Hmmm.... time is a problem for the next few days - maybe we could touch base over the weeked and sort something for next week.
  12. Just got back from 2 and a bit days caching using Cachemate for the first time in anger. I've found that if I create my own new cache page (for one that didn't come up on my PQ for some obscure reason), when I do a cache notes export, it doesn't save the "home made" cache page. Also found, for some reason, once a cache report html export had been done, Cachemate needed restarting (and sometimes a PDA soft reset needed) to get it to do another export (I'm paranoid about backing up regularly on a PDA !!!). I suspect both problems would be resolved with a new installation. All I did was copy the entire contents of my 2GB SD card onto a 4GB card, instead of doing a hard reset and fresh install of everything. To back this up, Memeory Map threw a couple of wobblies that are consistent with an incomplete installation. Otherwise, I'm impressed with Cachemate's capabilities for data handling and the simlicity of the Cachenav plugin.
  13. I'd be please to know the result, as I still love my 5550, and 4GB in SD would be a bonus Better mark this topic then, it'll be the first place to hear about it 4GB card arrived, installed, loaded and ready for action Going caching Sun/Mon/Tues/Wed so I'll see how good it is in the 5550. All works fine. Speed is good with Memory Map, Tomtom and Cachemate all running at the same time. GPS gate also being used to split the GPSr signal to all three applications. Although at the moment, I'm only using about 1/3 of the 4GB capacity - 4 Memory Map regions loaded, plus a few other bits. Tomtom and Cachemate also loaded on the card. (Ipaq 5550 reports total card memory as being 3813.53 MB, 1044.37MB in use and 2769.16MB free).
  14. Did you buy it with Mio Map loaded ?? If so, how good is it / how up to date is the mapping.
  15. BOATs and ORPAs (red dots on 1:50 OS Landranger) are still legaly driveable, assuming a TRO (Traffic Restriction Order) hasn't been enforced. All others are now Restricted Byways and not drivable under NERC. When ever you intend to drive a BOAT or an ORPA you should always check it's current status with the council's Rights of Way Officer or someone else who has recently.
  16. There seems to be a flaw with this concept in that; If the owner can not be contacted and the cache is archived by the reviewer, then the physical cache still remains in the landscape, and as such is litter or trash, something which I thought geocaching was opposed to and certainly breaks GAGB guidelines i.e. no responsible contact etc. If I saw that a nearby cache to me has been archived due to no maintenance, then I would check the cache myself,as curiousity would get the better of me.If it was still there,I'd probably do said maintenance and relist it as a new cache. If we all did this then there would be no trash!...further comments please. Ditto.
  17. Shame, it's on my list of must do's one day (or two or so ...). Maybe distance from cache was a problem for the owner - moved from Essex to Yorkshire and the cache is in the Lake District Reading between the lines ............. Good luck Golem.
  18. The litter issue could be a big one. There are many newbies who find a few, place one or two, then decide, for whatever reason, caching isn't for them. There are also probably a few who don't take it quite so seriously as a hobby as many of us. While it's the cache owners responsibility to maintain it (remove it ??) abandoning could well (and probably does) leave it as litter. How about a means of filtering for "abandoned" or "potentially abandoned" caches (by area, or similar search) so that interested parties to offer to adoption any those caches, within the normal placement guides for ability to maintain etc...
  19. Out of interest, what's a "reasonable" time. For example, if one was made temp unavailable by the owner several months ago, the owner then posted a note saying soon to be replaced a couple of months later, but hasn't done anything since and a reviewer posted a warning note quite recently. Fairly obviously, the owner hasn't the time or inclination to do anything about it.
