  1. As others have found elsewhere, just shows you how responses can vary in the same store. I enquired at Douglas Millets last week, and was met with a very unenthusiastic response (in my opinion). They had clearly had a number of enquiries, seemed to be fed up with them, had no inclination to check with anyone, nor did they even seem to want to receive any of the coins. Pointed out to them that they were listed on the Garmin website - which they said was wrong, but that they would not be doing anything to check up on, or correct. I was left with the impression they wanted rid of me and my question. I was intending shopping (or browsing at least) but was immediately switched off. From reading the thread, it doesn't seem to be the fault of stores, or individual staff - the communication could have been better - but you still get a variance in the customer 'service' offered. Ta
  2. A Big Ben reached the Isle of Man, but seems to have disappeared again. It's gone from the cache but still listed - hopefully someone will log it soon. And, our Millets are determined they aren't getting any, in spite of their listing on the website..... So, may be a while before we see one (or all five...)
  3. None in the Isle of Man - and a very negative response. They definitely shouldn't be listed, definitely won't receive anything, as they don't sell Garmin... Who's to say though that something won't turn up in their post... Ta Team Madders
  4. Resurrecting this thread - Andy Phillips is still providing great service at Garmin (as are they), via the email address previously listed. Sent an e-mail - same day response, and provided reference number and address to post GPSr in (loose rubber surround.....). Received a refurbed unit in immaculate condition (and free lanyard) within three days of posting to them. Just make sure though that you've backed up your waypoints - we had them on Mapsource fortunately, otherwise they'd have been gone.
  5. And in spite of his glorious failure, HH felt sufficiently inspired to use elements of this in a cache of his own: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e0-83d303db2071 We haven't solved that one yet (although may glean some clues from this tale of woe......
  6. Greetings from more Manx Cachers... We use the SMC Maps on our eTrex Vista C - they seem to be pretty similar to the Garmin Topo maps - although considerably less cost! They don't provide much detail, but still useful to see contours. Team Madders
  7. Hi Dave Icons still showing as generic http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....3b-44f64958dbc7 Reluctant to let them out roaming in this state, so if you could look into please that would be great. TFTC!! (Thanks for these coins..)
  8. A really great set of coins - and good service from The Caching Place. First time we've used them, and delighted to get some goodies thrown in with the package of swag we purchased as well. Only 10 days to cross the Atlantic as well.... Just one question - the coins are showing as a generic icon - is this correct?
  9. We've undertaken a number of these caches over the last few months, when on short trips to London. Not normally great fans of micros (living in the Isle of Man, we are lucky enough to have a great variety, with many involving a nice walk and an ammo can at the end) - but, some of these micros were great, as they took you to unusual places - and importantly helped us to get to know London a bit. It was much more fun to walk a mile and pick up a couple of caches than spend any time on the Underground. One very noticeable thing was that caching would involve a lot more stealth than we are used to - and decisions were quickly and easily made to avoid a site if there was any chance that we would look furtive or suspicious. Obviously disappointed that some caches have closed - but agreement that the GAGB steps were necessary unfortunately. Its up to everyone to work within this - some people may quite rightly feel that they don't wish to - but hopefully this will not lead to any significant impact on the numbers or quality of caches out there (assuming that others may take their place).
  10. One very simple option, although only really useful when dealing with a small number of caches, is to copy and paste the webpage into a text application, and save it as Plain Text - then transfer it to the Notes section of your iPod. You do need to fiddle about a bit though to delete any unnecessary hyperlinks / pictures etc - but, it does give you the basis of getting the main info across. Hope this helps....
  11. "Maughold Head" (GCVX12 - Isle of Man, Irish Sea) - has a nice use of the Shipping Forecast: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...85-2048a4de4b35
  12. Getting me to a dive site, and using the echosounder (on the boat, not on the GPSr) to locate the wreck......surprisingly, can be even harder to find than a micro...
  13. Managed to register for Statcounter, but couldn't work out how to add to page (in spite of instructions!). Am trying to do so, through the Edit Profile option, but can't work out where to paste code...any help appreciated (Mudsneaker??). TFTH
