Here in the San Fransisco bay area we get this about twice a year. Not exactly the same as this cacher seemed to say they met the requirements but just cachers logging something like "Found it!" I have out a bunch of harder terrain caches that require a boat or some work to get to. I would expect more then found it. Especially when they say they found 10 of them in different areas that I know would be hard to get to in a day. I will usually look them up and see they also found hard puzzles that they didn't certitude and some that are kind of known to be missing as you said. I bring it up on our local facebook page and usually someone goes and verifies they didn't sign some and then we contact them. I don't recall ever getting a response and then we try and delete them as much as possible. I still don't understand what fun someone would get from doing it but it happen often and those are only on the ones we find.

I don't know why others might do it but for me I like having a streak. So if the cache is near home I might go for the FTF. If the FTF is already taken I will save it for my day off. If I do go out and find it was already found then it is no big deal. I will just log it but if I know before I head there I would rather save it for another day.

I do the same. I log 99% of my finds from my phone on the spot. Others have said that it is better to wait so you can write a long log. I can type on my phone just as well as I can on the computer. When logging at GZ I can remember much more of what is going on then if I wait. I once did a hike with a group and the mountain didn't really have phone service. When I got home to log them I didn't have much I could think of to say about each one because they all kind of blended together after all that time.

I see it is disabled. If you were the one to do that instead of hitting disable hit Archive. Or go back and check if it is still there and if so update the coords and/or replace it.

I would much rather have a one sentence log about your find on my cache then a 5 paragraph log about your whole trip that was cut and pasted. Sometimes I am skipping threw a bunch of logs on my caches only after a few noticing there is one sentence on the bottom of something about one of the caches. Don't get me wrong I like long logs. Write it for that cache and it can be a book and I will read it all and enjoy it for sure. Its only the cut and paste ones that are all the same that gets boring.

At one time I downloaded a app that had the benchmarks on them. I only needed 2 for a challenge. Then I stopped worrying about them and just take a look at them.

Oh! I didn't notice that! I am guessing that is much more crazy. Also guessing the OP didn't actually buy them or place them at least. Also why it would have been harder to find them in bulk back then.

It doesn't really bother me if they say something about the cache that leads me to believe they actually found it. If it is just "found it, Didn't have a pen to sign" Then I kind of roll my eyes. If it says "found it I really like the way the container opens, didn't have a pen to sign it" or something like that and I can get the feeling they found it then it doesn't really bother me as much.

I don't see buying 100 bison tubes or blinkies to be to crazy. I know over the years I have been caching I have gone threw more then that. I once found a cool bigger sized camo bison tube on ebay that was $5.95 for one tube. But if you bought 25 it worked out to be around $2 each. I bought those and they have been gone for a while. I should probably get more. However we have been playing for many years and have many hides. We also help out a few friend cachers from time to time with there hides. A new cacher with only a few finds I don't think would need that many.

Don't worry about it at all! From what I am seeing is the CO is active and probably doesn't want it at the top of the list that there was a "needs maintenance" Logged on his cache. You are new and we all made mistakes when we started...and sometimes still do. Part of being a CO is dealing with stuff like this. It seems more of the CO's problem then yours. You have done everything that you can do. Now just go out and find caches and have fun while doing it! The fact that you came here wanting to help shows how great of a cacher you are.

The names usually just come to me. I am not sure others get it sometimes and that is fine. One I can think of off hand is a morning radio show I listen to often says "were just keeping it 100. " The Wherigo we were making was around a white house and the address was 100! I named it "Keeping it 100" One of the FTFers said they didn't understand the name. Ha Ha. Another we had found a challenge cache that had to have the word "camp" in it. We hid a cache at a marsh. Somehow my daughter came up with this name. WarNinjas- Smarsh a Camp Shmabitshmat I don't know why but that was the name!

I can't see this happening in our area and the group of cachers I know. If you sent me a question about a cache I would definitely respond. I wouldn't care if you were once a team and are now on your own. You are still a cacher and if it is a question about a cache I would respond. Maybe it is a way you are asking or something. I agree if you haven't already you need to make your own account. If you still have access to the joint account and it is the one I am looking at with only 200+ finds you could go threw and log the ones you were at and found. It might be a little awkward if you are asking using the joint account name. Once on your own I think everyone would treat you as just another cacher.

You should be fine. Making the listing should hold the spot for you. I don't see why the reviewer would need to see your note unless you are wanting to check the coords to see if they are good before placing it. If that is the case make sure to make it clear in the note that the cache is not in place and hit submit. If you think the spot is clear then just wait until the cache is in place and then hit submit. Just remember that the reviewer notes you make I don't think are editable after you make them. I don't make to many notes until right before I hit submit otherwise it might confuse the revewer once he/she takes a look at it.

Ok lets see. 1. My daughter likes it! She didn't really like my fishing hobby but loves caching! 2. I work all over and used to never take a lunch or a break. Just work and go home. Now I will take a break between jobs and grab a cache. Some days it is just a parking lot hide and sometimes I can take a hour and go for a hike and find some. 3. The streak is something I really enjoy. Getting out to grab a cache everyday for over 5 years has really been fun for me. I always work far away or have something I need to do far away so grabbing at least one a day has not been a big problem so far. 4. On vacation and trips it has shown me some really cool locations! 5. Hiding is also really cool. Making hides and reading logs about cachers finding our hides is a great break during the day! WOW! I didn't think I would come up with 5 but am now thinking of more!

There is a local puzzle maker that I have heard say that any puzzle should be at least a 3 difficulty unless it is really easy.

I think in the official app and some others you can look for key words. Just type in "Challenge" and search and it will pull them up. There might be a couple of false ones that happen to have the word Challenge in the title but you should be able to weed those out pretty easy.

That is awesome! She will have to put up with your caching because after all that is how you got engaged! We had someone propose at one of our caches. It is a popular cache and someone snuck the note in right before and then taped the whole thing. Hope you both have many happy years of caching marriage!

If you feel it is weird to host a event and log it if no one shows up then just throw it out there. Make it for a short time (whatever the shortest time window is) so you don't waste a lot of time waiting to see if anyone shows up. If no one shows then don't log it. If someone shows up then it was a event and log it.

I get this complaint from time to time. Ours are really out in the water though. Sounds like yours is good to go!

Giving a favorite point to a FTF probably isn't helpful to others but I often really enjoy running out and getting to be the first to find a new cache. I think it was cool it was placed in a spot and time that I was able to be first. I enjoyed the experience so sometimes I will give them a favorite when I might not have if I had been 10th to find. It still stood out above the average 10 I have found on a fun factor for me. Not that I give all FTF's a favorite but I am sure they have a better chance then others.

Silliest reason I gave a cache a favorite was because of it's name. "FTF...more later". I had to LOL when I seen it published. When I actually found it the cache was just a lamp post cache in a awkward place to grab it but the name was so funny I had to give it a favorite. Too many reasons to divide it up but I get the idea.

This sport would become boring if not for different challenges. If all caches were just walk up and find it wouldn't appeal to many. Up trees, kayak to it is all for the fun of the game. I don't like to work on puzzles. I can probably climb that tree but probably can't solve that crazy puzzle but others like that. I can see your point if it is a series of caches not to make one not accessible to all. We put out a mini power trail of about 8 caches and we kept that in mind so everyone would be able to find them all when doing that series.

I think the CO's that were selected are among the best and know what they are doing. The reason they might have been picked is because everyone loves there puzzles, or high terrain caches. It is there cache to do what they want with. I do agree that I prefer one I can figure out at the spot but it is up to them on how they want to do it.

I think it will be a good thing Astro_D. Bring more people to find your cache. At least the Bubble didn't cover your cache on the map! We have a popular cache and seems about once a year or more someone plans a event at the exact spot and then the bubble covers our cache so possibly no one can see it or no one can see theirs. Then after the event they often leave it there for a month or so!

I think it is great how GS did this. Not only is it really cool to have some new caches around that don't take up space. I am sure there are many good CO that let a few cache maintenance issues slide a bit because they can. If we had some warning they could have fixed them up in hopes of getting this reward. Now it might always be in CO's heads that something cool like this might happen and if there caches are not in great shape they might not get the reward. I didn't get a chance at a virtual but I think how they did it was great and made me think about my hides and what I could do to improve them. I am sure others are thinking the same so I commend GS on how they did this!
