  1. Hello There, For my 60csx which has the same 80 character limitation I use GSAK and a macro that spreads long hints over several POI of the same waypoint or cache. Macro is called GarminCsvPoiExport-v2.gsk described on this page. GSAK has loads of other extremely useful features as well. Regards Bernard
  2. Hi there, When it's in your possession other folk can record a "Discovered It" or "Write Note" or "Grab it from current holder:Pacar" log on the trackables page. In their log they can mention where and how they came across it, what they thought about you or the coin or anything else. If its not logged into a cache or event no milage is added to its travels. If you meet another cacher at a cache or event that you have dipped the coin into the milage is recorded to the place. They have to have the trackables unique number to do the above. Regards Bernard
  3. Hello Martin, I've just downloaded the OS style map and put it on my 60csx. First impression "WOW, FANTASTIC" that is different. I can see my house so its using the OSM maps. The buildings across the way are named when the pointer is hovered over them. It's a little bit slower to pan across the map but that is more than compensated for with the tremendous increase in detail/visual impact. When you zoom out its just a blocky mess so I think the I'll have to try to de-clutter a bit. Zoom right in and the detail is great. This has to be played with to get the settings right. Will there be a Mapsource/Basecamp version, PLEASE? Great work and many thanks. Bernard
  4. Hi JBnW, Yes. Import your gpx track, then you can import jpg or jpeg files and geotag them. It also allows for the photo's time to be offset, (in case the camera and gps time are not synchronised). I'm sure BaseCamp can be had for free, just try it out, chuck it away if you don't like it! Regards Bernard
  5. Hello There, This is the page for the TalkyToaster maps HERE. Then this is the zipped download you need 111216-British-Isles+Contours-Routable-GMAPSUPP.zip There's a lot of info to help you get them on the GPSr, have a play and shout if you need more help. Regards Bernard
  6. Hello There, Yes, as a csv file from Excel you should be able to upload as POI's with Garmins POILoader to the 60csx, you can then search them under Custom POI on the unit. Regards Bernard
  7. Hi, Have a look here (consumer rights) for tips on your rights as a consumer of goods and how to go about returning faulty goods. Regards
  8. Hello Labrador Wild Man You can change the name to "anything_you_want.img" personally I use something to remind me of what it was. I now have three .img map files on my card so what I've done is put a .txt file on the card also, telling me what the file size is, what it is, the date and where it came from. Regards Bernard
  9. Hello, I use Mapsource and Open Street Map, OSM is improving all the time as it's ordinary folk compiling it. Personally I think it's as good as the Garmin Topo GB map. Mapsource for free from here. Just follow the instructions. OSM from here that's talky toaster a geocacher that compiles fresh maps every month or so. Regards Bernard
  10. Hello, Have a look here Regards Bernard
  11. Hello There, That gpx file shows about 7 tracks or 7 parts of a track in Japan around Tokyo. You can open the file for editing in notepad or something similarly simple and view about 1000 track points like this :- <trkpt lat="35.716054" lon="139.794213"> <ele>12.036</ele> <time>2009-05-27T00:18:56Z</time> </trkpt> Open it in Mapsource and view the tracks, open the track properties then view the individual waypoints. If you have or can download Google Earth that will convert the gpx file to a kml file which can be viewed in google earth. (Edit ; I see you do have Google Earth, sorry.) Then look at your tracks on a satellite image of Tokyo. I've had the problem before of photos being out on the map and it was the camera time not synced to the GPS. Your tracks seem to be rather zig zag so I would think the GPS was not very accurate in locking to your course in the city anyway. That would make pinpointing the photo locations out as well. Regards Bernard
  12. Hello, So what does no votes actually tell you??? I think GCVote is much better at rating a cache than favorite points if enough people would use it. You can award a star rating from poor through to awesome. Thus informing other's of the quality of a particular cache rather than just showing the ones you like. GCVote really took off when it first came out but it seems to have died off a bit possibly because of lack of promotion. Have a look at it and see what you think, by the way I'm not in any way connected to it. Regards Bernard
  13. Hello ecanderson, Thanks for your reply, I was so pleased to locate them I straight away ordered three from Canada, $10.43 including shipping. Regards Bernard
  14. Hello There Pup Patrol, Yes they're the ones, now on order. Thanks for your help. Funny that they are referenced as buttons with the clip but knobs without the clip. Regards Bernard
  15. Hello, Does anyone know if the button that screws into the back of the 60CSx is available separately from the belt clip, and from where please? Thanks Bernard
  16. Hello, I think you have to save the view that you created by adding removing columns. Then export the csv file with that view. Regards Bernard
  17. Hi, Sorry I can't think of anything else except that it's a Groundspeak bug. I've always paid through PayPal and never had a problem, except remembering my password when I very infrequently logon to PayPal, but that's me being in error. Regards Bernard
  18. Hi, That looks OK, on that page click on the box "Edit Payment Details", put in the recipients username, your message and click continue. I take it that the credit/debit card you have registered with paypal is current, not expired. Regards Bernard
  19. Hello There, First off you need to say what GPS you're using then somone can give you specific information. Second GSAK is a fantastic piece of software, takes a bit of working out but I think in time you'll like it. The below is taken from the GSAK help file :- The GSAK Location options dialog box allows you to enter the latitude and longitude of your home (or your current location). These coordinates are used to calculate distances and bearings to waypoints when you click the Home toolbar button. Regards Bernard
  20. Hello There, Have you setup geocaching on your unit? For the 60csx its page 72 and 21 of the manual. Regards Bernard
  21. Hello There, I've been using 6.16.3 for a long time now with no problems. I have Talky Toaster's OSM maps as well as Garmin Topo GB. Regards Bernard
  22. No problem. That's something else learned.
  23. Hello TopMonkey, You can only have one GMAPSUPP.IMG file working at any time (see details on the talky toaster page (Here under INSTRUCTIONS). So when you put the new GMAPSUPP.IMG file on the SD card (it must go on the card) it overwrites the first one. To keep the original GMAPSUPP.IMG file on the card, if there is enough room, you can rename it with something to remind you what it was. If you want the UK OS Discoverer Map you have to make that the GMAPSUPP.IMG file again, rename the toaster map. I've had the OSM map of the UK on my Garmin 60csx and on the PC in Mapsource for quite a while now and not swapped back. The OSM map is in places especially citys like Norwich better than the OS map. Norwich OSM map is brilliant! You can go a step further and start putting ways you've travelled onto the OSM map, it's very fulfilling to participate. Regards Bernard
  24. Hello There, I have used this facility before but did run it through again and it works for me. The only thing I can think of to give out the results you describe is that you inadvertently saved the end point only of your route rather than the Whole route. The instructions are wrong when they say "4 Scroll to the top of the directions list until you see the start/end location", you have to scroll to the bottom of the list. Highlight the "route" where it tells you the distance and time, save that and then proceed. I think that's right. Regards Bernard
