  1. My biggest fear is other people. Sometimes my wife can't follow me through the woods so she sits on the trail while I wander through the woods. What if someone starts to bother her when I'm not there? We're studying for our concealed handgun license and plan to pack heat while we cache. Also there have been a lot of shootings in the Houston area lately. Just another good reason to carry protection. How many of you do the same?
  2. I personally don't like to call them Muggles, it seems like a derrogatory term. I think we should call the people who vandalize caches muggles, and everyone else non-cachers. I was a non-cacher not a muggle. People talk about what to do when a muggle asks what you are doing. In the forums it seems like most cachers try to hide what they are actually doing. I try to explain what geocaching is and if they seem interested I show them. Sometimes you have to take a chance. I would have wanted somebody to show me if I had asked.
  3. I found out about caching from a radio morning show. Rod Ryan from Houston's 94.5 The Buzz mentioned Geocaching one morning and I've been hooked since.
  4. My wife loves to geocache, but she isn't able to brave the heat as often as I do. She's more of a fall and winter cacher.
  5. What I always hated is when you ask somebody what time it is and they say "quarter till" which means nothing if you don't know what hour it is. Then you have to ask quarter till what.
  6. I have a palm IIIxe with cachemate and when I use the search function to search a waypoint it won't find anything. It only works when I search for the name of the cache. Am I supposed to be able to search by waypoint?
  7. I couldn't stay long enough for the animal control officer to get there. There were other people at the park and I saw some of them feed her. This was in the Angleton area.
  8. She deserves more than what I am able to give as far as time and money is concerned, otherwise my wife and I would love to take her.
  9. Yesterday while searching for Alligator Alley (GCQFZ3) my wife and I came across what appeared to be an abandoned puppy. She was very hungry and thirsty. We fed her our picnic lunch we brought and gave her all our water. She was really lonely and snuggled with us when we sat down. We called animal control, but we had to leave before they showed up. I would take her myself, but she's a big puppy and I have a small yard. Tommorrow I'm going to call and make sure she got picked up and find out what's going to happen to her. I'll post all the info I find out. She was SO loveable and she climbed up in our laps and rested her head on our shoulders.
  10. I only just started Geocaching and Benchmark hunting. I like doing both, but my wife doesn't like BM Hunting. I log my BM's at both sites, of course I've only logged one so far, but give me a break, I just started!
  11. Thank you Bill93. I tried all those options already, including the "Can't find my Benchmark in the Data Base" topic, (I stumbled on it somewhere). Just trying to see if anybody had anymore ideas other than whats already here. I could just stumble into the file room onsite and thumb through the blueprints, system charts, and land survey charts, but then I would have to explain to my super. why I had a need to go in there.....
  12. Hello, I work at the South Texas Project. I've worked at the plant for a little over a year now and never knew that benchmarks existed. Now that I started logging benchmarks I've found them inside and out all over the plant. There has to be datasheets on them somewhere right? Geodetic Survey Benchmark 371-05 I'll post some pictures and more of their numbers when I get the chance.
