  1. I should find that forum because I wonder...do I put silicone where the buttons are? I would think not. This is beginning to look like a project for my husband, who is the tinkerer in the home....currently making lights for his motorcycle.
  2. Hi, my etrex has endured many different climates, and it is supposed to be waterproof. But the glue holding the rubber siding is loosing its stickiness. What kind of glue would you recommend I use to reglue the rubber to the plastic shell? I want to fix it up before selling it off. I'm upgrading!
  3. I decided to go with a different deal, so this one is still for sale, as far as I know.
  4. The 60CS doesn't have as good a chipset as the 60CSx. You're still not quite there with regard to signal quality with that one. BTW - did you know GSAK will create nice *.OV2 style POI files out of your caches for your TomTom? I did not know that about the Tom Tom. I only tried to GC with it once, and it didn't do well walking in the park. I went ahead and made a deal on the Garmin 60c. I know it isn't the fastest, but I figure that it is probably comparable to the one I have and I'll be able to upload with the included usb cord. Plus a little software and other accessories are included. Thanks for your advice.
  5. You're describing most of what's on the market today. While I don't generally encourage trying to use the small screen of a handheld for driving, it's do-able. So I guess the first question is whether you already own a decent automotive nav unit. If not, and you'd like to upgrade to be able to do street navigation with your handheld, it helps define the models that make sense for you. If you've already got a good street navigation unit, you won't need to pay the extra for one with that ability, or in particular, the maps. Yes, I have a Tom Tom and it does a decent job of getting me around. Plus my cell phone works as a backup. Too bad there is no Geocaching app for the cell that I have! I'm looking at Garmin 60c, WA state, slightly used, $100.00 (from the garage sale thread) or possibly just going with a newer etrex if I buy new. Another garage sale item that interested me was FS Magellan triton 400. That one looks ever nicer. I just don't know much about it.
  6. I am interested, but I might already have a deal in place. Is your's still up for grabs? Still have it. Do you happen to be in Eastern Washington? I am still contemplating if I want to spend this much money. My other deal fell through. If I could pick it up that would be a bonus as I could have it right away. I live in eastern Oregon.
  7. Unless your old yellow eTrex is an eTrex H (and based upon your description, I'm guessing it's not), that upgrade is probably a very good idea. The older units don't fare as well under heavy tree cover or other problem terrain... the newer units do a better job of receiving satellite data under marginal conditions and hence, provide a better position. Hmmm, now the question is what model do I buy? I really want one that will hold more than 6 character waypoints and one that I can plug in with a usb cable. I'd also like one I can buy locally or relatively locally (instead of online) as I am going through a geocaching faze and haven't really geocached for 2 years. If I don't get it now, I might lose my momentum. Radio Shack offers a cable for $40 with driver and I am tempted to go and buy it. However, it is not really worth it if I am going to upgrade anyway.
  8. Thanks for your help. I will go ahead and buy that if I don't purchase a "new" unit this summer.
  9. I am interested, but I might already have a deal in place. Is your's still up for grabs?
  10. Hi, This is related to the question I wanted to ask. I have an old garmen etrex (yellow, 6 digit waypoint) and I have a serial cable. My question is this...I want to upgrade my gps and/or my cable. I will probably buy a newer etrex legend with serial cable off of Craigslist. My question is this: do I have to buy the $60 USB adapter from Garmen, or can I buy the $6 one from Ebay. Is there something I should know about this? http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-RS232-SERIAL-CABLE-DB9-4-VIEWSAT-SATELLITE-WIN-7-/320564850544?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa3276f70#ht_2295wt_911 ://http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-RS232-SERIA...#ht_2295wt_911 ://http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-RS232-SERIA...#ht_2295wt_911 Thanks!
  11. Hi. I'm a fairly new cacher. I have a few over 50 finds, and I got my GPS for Christmas. I came across this discussion a few days ago, and it interested me. I'd love it if someone had an I-5 Oregon listing. I'm taking a trip soon.
  12. Yeah, I was thinking of doing something like that. If it was flat, dry ground instead of a muddy butte, I'd be more inclined.
  13. I know this is scary, but I don't have a compass. Any suggestions for a starter compass that I can buy in a medium sized city or online?
  14. Try the GeoCalc program. Yes! That's it! Thank you!
  15. My yellow e-trex is just not pulling its weight right now. I need to project a waypoint, and I've never been successful with this before. Is there a website that will calculate my new waypoint? Or maybe freeware? Or maybe someone in Florda with a good heart will just do it for me.
  16. I hope this is the right place to post this. How do I slow down or take apart an annimated GIF? I've had several puzzles where I just have to watch the screen. I'd like to slow it down or take it apart and look at each frame. I'll be really thankful to have some help!--Grading Papers
