  1. CTRFLDR - I used to play a lot (6 games a week) of softball, both slow pitch and fast pitch, did this for about 20 years, eventually I had to move to 1st base due to back/knees (centerfield is where by heart will always be though). Centerfield is where I roamed.
  2. GSAK all the way. In a matter of minutes I can have well over 1000 waypoints, their discription, hints, 5 previous logs (everything that you would see on a printed piece of paper(s)) loaded onto my Palm Pilot. Easy, Easy, Easy. Great tool
  3. I see a lot of talk about Garmin and Mapsource but I haven't run into a discussion about a simple specific question (sorry for the repetitiveness if it's in here somewhere). I have a 60CSx, I'm a premium member so I download pocket queries weekly into my GPS, now the question. Can I slap a City Navigator SD card in my GPS and then find cache hides using the map page view? Instead of following the arrow from left to right to left again (make several U-turns) I'd simply like to follow known roads on a map. I see many discussions about loading software to your computer and then running one or more software programs for downloading to your GPS, if this is necessary then I'll figure out how to do it but I would much rather just slap a SD card in and go to points already downloaded from my pocket queries. Thanks in advance, CTRFLDR
  4. Can anyone provide me with the longitude/latitude for Velencia, Spain? I've tried several sites and I consistantly get readings such as 37.41907 (Lat) and -4.05937 (Lon), for some reason I can not enter a negative number in the Geocaching.com site, when I remove the - symbol then results pop up but it brings me to the interior of Spain and not Velencia. I'm traveling there next week and would love to locate some cache. Thanks in advance for any/all help.
  5. Life is good. I renewed my Premium Membership (which allowed me to set up Pocket Querries), downloaded the free 21 day no nag GSAK (which I will certainly register and gladly pay $25 for within a day or so) and within a grand total of about 15 minutes I had 500 cache locations loaded into my Garmin 60CSX. Now all I'm waiting to do is find my Palm Pilot, download the necessary software and go on my merry paper-free cache hunting. Thanks to those that pointed me in the right direction and to all of the others who indirectly helped me by posting in various other topics on this great forum. I believe with a little bit of digging and the use of the proper "key words" this group of enthusist can address any/all questions that us nebbies have. Happy caching. Look for my Sports related hides in the Chandler AZ area in the next couple of weeks.
  6. Would this eliminate my need for the PDA? I have no problem plunking down the $55 ($30 Premium Membership in Geocaching.com & $25 for GSAK) if this eliminates my need to carry a PDA plus my Garmin.
  7. I just recently got back into Goecaching (after losing an old Magellan GPS unit that wasn't capable of taking downloads from a PC) and have purchased the Garmin 60CSX. I have two questions; 1) How can I download more then 20 waypoints (1 page) at a time from geocaching.com, 2) Can I go completely paperless without using a Palm (or like device)? Everything that I read points me towards .GPX format but then Palm is mentioned in the same breath. I want the ability to see more in my 60CSX then simply the cache name and location. Since I'm new I'd like to be able to see at minimum the owners comments and sometimes the clue (if provided). I am currently using EasyGPS to download .loc files, should I be using some other program? Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions. CTRFLDR
  8. Yes, once you log a find, it will ask you if you want to navigate to the next closest one. It doesn't let you specify the next closest one in a particular direction, though. The other thing to consider is that if you load a bunch of Geocaches on your GPS, you can go into map view and see them, anyway. Just click on the one you want to go to next and navigate to it. GeoBC Great, thanks for the education. I'm looking forward to getting back out there.
  9. gpsbabel will let you pull out subsets of waypoints based on their distance from a given point. But this will not necessarily help you do what you appear to want to do, which seems more akin to the infamous traveling saleman's problem. It is likely simpler to start with one, find it, then let the GPSr find you the next closest one. Does the GPS have the ability to tell me the next closest one? If so then this certainly solves my problem. My old unit did not have this capability.
  10. Is there any way to group cache locations in my GPS by proximity to one another? I've been instructed to group them by distance from my home but the problem with that is one cache location could be 1 mile away and another one 1.01 miles away but one is south of my home and another is north. I want to group them so I don't spend so much time traveling from cache to cache in a car when I could simply walk from one to the other. I realize I could additionally simply compare coordinances but I plan on downloading 100's of waypoints at once and don't want to toggle around trying to locate my next find. Thanks for any/all insights that you can provide. I started Geocaching about a year and a half ago but lost my GPS about a year ago so I've been out of action and am just now getting back into it (once I actually purchase the 60CSX), my old unit didn't allow me to download waypoints so I'm not very familiar with them, I manually input coordinances on my last unit.
