  1. YEAH! I LOVE VIRTUALS! They take me to lots of wonderful places that don't allow physical caches. Yesterday we were at the Vietnam Wall in Pensacola. That is the kind of places we want to visit, and get credit for it, since we had to follow our co-ords and find it. No, we don't go looking for virtual McDs, but we have looked for boring McD's and Wally's physical caches. Don't see the big deal difference! We all just pick what we want to hunt for. I'm in the camp that would ban those darn micros! Like Virtuals, there is basically "nothing there." We like Travel Bugs, and they sure aren't found in Micros. So we might better go look for a Virtual instead, where we will likely learn something. Just put them out there, and let us pick which ones we want to hunt.
  2. Interesting. Why does Tink say that? I generally dislike micros (even if I do happen to find one - not often) cuz there is no place to trade Swag or Travel BUGS/COINS! But I have seen some very creatively hidden film canisters in cemetaries etc, places where it would be nearly impossible to hide my perferred ammo boxes. Anything smaller than a film canister tho, count me out. It ceases to be fun. We did 4 micros today because they were the only caches in the area, and one virtual. The historical virual was the only one that was really interesting. ========================================================================== You do realize that these are two separate issues, right? A cache placed with little to no thought or creativity is lame, (to me), regardless of size. That being said; Personally, I don't think it's a coincidence that the vast majority of hides with a creativity vacuum are micros. It's been my experience that the type of person who gets gratification from hiding caches with little or no thought largely belong to the quick and easy crowd. Anything resembling effort must be avoided by this group at all costs. Acquiring, hiding and maintaining a lamp post film can is a whole lot easier than doing the same thing with an ammo can at the end of a 9 mile paddle or 15 mile hike. Because the acquisition, hiding and maintenance of these stinkers is so much easier, the hiders have little to stop them from spewing out dozens of these hides at a time. As more and more people enter this playground, there will be a percentage of park & grab junkies. Has the percentage increased? Personally, I don't think so. I think they are simply hiding more caches that those folks who enjoy a challenge. There is light at the end of your tunnel though! If you haven't already, become a premium member, and adjust your pocket queries to ignore any cache listed as a micro, other or not selected. You'll never have to deal with a lame micro again, and you can focus your energies hunting the types of hides you prefer. Complaining about something that will not change, and which you are capable of avoiding, makes you look like you are whining, and has a negative impact on your credibility.
  3. Forget the walking sticks. We carry a folding cane. (less than a foot long when broken down in 3rds) If muggles are about, I just flip open the cane, and become a pathetic elderly person hobbling along. Good thing they don't see me poking under the bushes with it! LOL
  4. We carry the usual stuff listed here, but we add a folding cane. Found it for cheap in a church Thrift Store - a good place to find swag too. Folds in 3rds, so less than a foot in length to pack. Great for 1. Looking old and harmless to muggles, 2. for poking into places we don't want to put our hands, and 3. for poking to find a covered "boink!" sound of containers. 4. We've been known to use the "hook" end to snag stuff out of water etc too.
  5. Great! My occational question is: Just installed GSAK today, on Win XP if it matters. Is there a way to import my old finds into the log? Also I was told that we could import a whole area at a time (Detroit area for example), and then check off as we found. Don't see where to do that either. Any ideas? Thanks! Pepper and More
