  1. Thanks for the quick reply. I hadn't actually realised how small the screens are compared to my smartphone (I know that size isn't everything!)but what I think I might try first, before spending a couple of hundred pounds or so, is to use a small GPS receiver with a Bluetooth link to my phone, which I am hoping will give me better accuracy, especially under trees etc.
  2. Hi, I am considering that a dedicated GPS unit will be a bit more reliable than my Samsung Galaxy Smartphone, and was wondering how much 'better' the Garmin Oregon 450 is than the Dakota 20? Presumably they can both store OS maps for 'offline' access? If it makes any difference I live in the UK, and expect to be doing most of my geocaching relatively locally. Thanks!

    New Caches

I wasn't aware of that option either, and would love to be the 'First To Find' a new cache... especially one fairly close to home! Maybe one day!
  4. As a beginner myself, I have learnt a lot by just reading through this particular thread, which has made me realise that perhaps I should start by looking for some of the larger and easier to find caches first, which I am sure will give me the added incentive to continue. I am sure too that there there must be other members, like myself, who already own one of the latest smartphones with built in GPS, the accuracy of which quite surprised me on my first outing. Even the official Android app seemed to work well on my Samsung Galaxy S!
  5. Unfortunately I think there is a problem with this link, as I just end up with an error page! Perhaps you could repost it? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for your reply. I thought at first that it might be somehing like that, but it is nowhere near a road, and I still don't know why it appeared in the first place anyway. If the cache owner also includes additional waypoints (as indeed he did here) I wasn't sure whether or not these should appear on my phone, but it is certainly not one of those. I think I might have to visit the area again (it is not too far away) and to try and locate the exact spot, so as to see what Is actually there... if only to satisfy my curiosity!
  7. Hi, A real 'newbie' question here, sorry, but when I was using the official app on my Android based Samsung S smartphone today, trying to find 'Happy Walking', I noticed a small red/orange triangular 'flag' on the map screen. It wasn't on the route we were following to the cache, and it didn't appear to be any of the Waypoints mentioned in the description. I am sure it is something obvious, but it wasn't anything I had added myself, and I would like to know what it denotes? Thanks!
  8. Thanks ... It is certainly available now, and I have just updated mine. Had only just started using it today, so hadn't really found any problems anyway! Updates are always welcome though.
