  1. Quick question. From time to time, I decide to do something very spur of the moment, like I wake up and say I feel like going to this State Park or heading up to do a hike somewhere and figure it'd be nice to try and do some geocaching so I go to set up a pocket query based on that activity. Sometimes I get the results emailed ASAP other times it can take longer (like after I've left). It'd be nice if I could run the query right away, anyone else agree? I could understand if GC had an "allowance" of instant queries (like maybe 5 per month or something) otherwise everyone would probably instantly run their query, but does anyone else think this is a good idea?
  2. Haha, I'm just that good, lol. It's weird, I just got a second pocket query emailed today and it does have the name of the query in the file name. Both of these queries have the option to include the pocket query name in the file name checked off.
  3. Did it myself: http://feedback.geocaching.com/geocaching/...rking_correctly
  4. Same issue again (just got a PQ emailed to me today). Anyone have a link to Getsatisfaction thing, I can't find it?
  5. Thanks for the responses, that box is already checked on my PQ's.
  6. Before yesterdays updates pocket queries that got emailed to me had the zip file attached and that zip file had a somewhat meaningful name (basically the same name as the PQ). Now it is coming over as a long ID of some kind, is there any way to change this?
  7. If there was "so much wrong with it" you'd think the reviewer could explain to you what some of those things were.
  8. It's all personal I guess. The waterproof-ness, ruggedness, battery life, accuracy are all reason enough to use a handheld over the phone.
  9. I just got the email as well. Obviously the guy is spamming. Maybe he had a bad experience himself or knows someone who did. IMHO, there is a shred of truth to what he's saying. I personally don't do "urban" caches or even "suburban" and stick to the woods. It's the sad reality that people don't hesitate to call the police every 30 seconds and the general fear of LEO's. Common sense isn't so common.
  10. Too much thinking. If you have to get a bulldozer in to move the rock, place the cash, and move the rock back into place then NO. If you go somewhere, see a rock. Lift if with your bare hands (and you're not a body builder), place the cache, and then replace the rock then YES.
  11. I would take this video, and get rid of some of the extra stuff: What is Geocaching?
  12. I joined a while ago and used to peruse the forums regularly a while ago (5ish years ago). Just getting back into reading the forums again and geocaching. I am surprised by how many discussions there are regarding rules, guidelines, moderators, reviewers, etc. I guess it's a good thing, a sign of a growing game with lots of people but, as with everything, sometimes you wish things were simpler. Have you noticed things change? Maybe for me it's more apparent because I was out for a while...
  13. Thanks for all the feedback. I never use mine in a mount or anything like that, just handheld. I do use the USB port about 1x per week which will require removing it from teh case, but it seems like a fair tradeoff to protect the unit.
  14. Thanks I read a bunch of reviews and they mentioned the same thing you did but seemed like the pros outweighed the cons. I was impatient and ordered one!
  15. Yeah, I don't know. At least I can say I don't seem to be getting timeout errors anymore. This is definitely the slowest forum I'm on.
  16. I just tried to search the forums for "60csx case" and got a message saying This kind of doesn't make any sense to me?
  17. Thinking about picking one of these up, but all the pics online stink. I can't really tell how the GPS looks when it's in it or how it closes on the unit. Do you have it? Do you like it? Care to share (high res) pics of it with your GPS in the case?
  18. Pocket Queries + GSAK (http://gsak.net/index.php) + Your Garmin should work fine. If you want to get a "proof of concept". Download GSAK (free demo) and get a couple of waypoints into it and then send them to your garmin. GSAK 100% works with pocket queries.
  19. Not in the game for the stuff....
  20. First the caveats: 1) I am not an expert on Magellan's as I haven't owned one 2) Even though it's redundant, I don't own the Explorist GC. That being said. I looked at magellan's website: http://www.magellangps.com/exploristgc/#1 And it looks like it has a pretty solid set of features and does support paperless caching (meaning it can download the hints, description, past logs, etc) and it says it can store up to 10,000 geocaches. Any unit you get you'll want to get a premium membership because it gives you pocket queries which allows you download tons of caches at once based on criteria you pick. I've always been a garmin fan, but it looks like a nice unit. Perhaps someone who has direct experience will chime in
  21. Once you narrow it down to a few units, the garage sale section might be the place to search around for used units people are offering up for sale: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=13
  22. No problem, the 60csx is sitting right here so if you come up with other questions, post them up. If not me, someone will surely have the answer. You should also look into GSAK www.gsak.net It goes great with the 60csx, as does getting a premium membership from geocaching.com
  23. I have a 60csx. I got mine recently but have been using them for years. They, as most garmins are, very reliable and well constructed. The 60csx is pretty easy to use and relatively snappy when switching from screen to screen. I have no regrets about my purchase overall. That being said, there are two things that you should consider: 1) The 60csx has a maximum limit of 1000 geocaches that it can store at once. That's either a TON or not enough depending on how long you're away from the computer and how you intend to use it 2) The 60csx IS NOT paperless. That means you'll have to find some other way to carry hints, description, and last log finds. This may include printing, a PDA, or some work-arounds involving GSAK/loading points of interest. There are tons of threads on going semi-paperless with the 60csx but it has its limits. Many of the newer units support paperless caching by design. Those are the two specific things regarding the 60csx and geocaching. As far as boating, all units will generally do fine. Because you're out on the water you rarely have any overhead obstructions so getting a position fix is no big deal (I've sailed with various GPS units). If you're looking for more like marine charts, interfacing with a laptop, etc, then more research is probably needed.
  24. Perfect thanks, I don't know if there's 1000. I was just wondering how it works. I thought I read, when I was setting up the PQ's, that it would only deliver 500 or less to me by email?
