  1. Saw a new cache in Macau (GC1HWRQ) and flew out to Hong Kong, ferry to Macau, bus near to GZ then a long climb to the cache itself - 5969.4mi as the crow flies!
  2. I received this email from Garmin; Whilst these are waterproof to ix 7 ratings they are not designed to be in this depth for long periods, however we have had reports of units surviving very unusual circumstances, including one unit lost in a river for over two weeks with no battery cover, so there is a possibility that this may work. If you do recover it and it is still working then please also do please let us know as we would be very intereseted to hear this information.
  3. I was surprised to find that GSAK listed Jersey as a "country". I could understand the Channel Islands but are the islands all listed separately? Also, is the Isle of Man listed as a separate "country"? Like the Channel Islands it does have its own Parliament. Full Disclosure I live in Wales and will of course be voting Yes for full devolution You never know us English may beat you to it, if it's offered to us!
  4. Thanks for all the comments. I've not given up, yet!
  5. If I am down that way, and you have access to the boat, I'm quite happy to have a look, as if its survived up to now it will survive sort on indefinitely... if you see what I mean. We won't need a boat it's just off the pontoon in a marina!
  6. I had a impression that they were rugged and water proof. I have bought another one, but not another Oregon. So, I'm back on the caching circuit!
  7. I had a terrible accident with my GPS on board a sailing yacht last Sunday. When trying to put my Oregon safely in my coat pocket before stepping off the yacht onto the pontoon the zip jammed and in my effort to realise it I dropped my GPS. It decided to skate across the entire plastic deck and slipped through a narrow gap in the stern and plopped into the drink at Poole Harbour. I recorded the precise location in the marina where it went into waters of a depth of 3 metres. I know it may be a long shot, but is there anyone who can help me to retrieve my GPS? I quite happy to pay all cost and in fact I may organise an event during the occasion!
  8. Give me a chance, I was in Spain...colouring! 30 countries cached!
  9. Well done to all involved and a big thank-you to the people at the Forest Commission. Looks like more forest walks to come when in the SW.
  10. Cycle Mayhem or more appropriately, Mayhem Cyclists!
  11. Pedantry Corner. Considering bluebells had died back below ground 4 months ago it would not make sense if ‘very recently bluebells had been trampled down’. However, as mention before, bluebells are only visible for a couple months of the year, so, if the cache has been placed between June and February the owner probably wouldn’t realised they were there. Geocaching trails through carpets of bluebells start as the green vegetation begins to emerge in the spring, so, for most cachers would not be aware what they are walking over the shoots during the first few weeks of growth. As for when they are in flower I’m sure everyone (cachers and muggles alike) makes an effort to avoid walking over them, but it’s certainly not the end of them if they are. It would be good practice if we inform the owners when we find a cache to be in a bed of bluebells and then the cache is repositioned. Overall Bluebell bulbs are quite sturdy plants and regenerate profusely and would only be destroyed if heavy traffic occurs over them year after year.
  12. ...and there's Norfolkshire! ...also Worester.
  13. Welcome to Geocaching. There's nothing about this sport that is odd... Take football for an example; 22 men kicking a leather balloon around on a patch of grass. You telling me there's nothing odd about that?!
  14. I too had the same message after making a simular request. Fingers crossed.
  15. Oh, what a shame, just when I've nearly coloured in all the counties in. The top 10 was fun when it worked...many years ago! GSAK? Just looks so complicated, is there an easier version?
  16. It has been ages since I did many of the caches up here, but I do know that most of the caches are hidden away from the paths and what paths there are many are dirt tracks - hard and bumpy in summer, soft and boggy in winter. The hills are undulating up and down. I hope this helps in some way.
  17. It may not what you are looking for, but you can watch your progress against others on this web-site which is updated twice a week.
  18. Any guess who will be the first to find???
  19. Got this picture just in time! This was the Water Garden at Hampstead Heath, London this afternoon at cache GC27X2F
  20. ..slightly off topic, but is there really snow still up where you are?
  21. There's a collection of caches on Hampstead Heath (this cache is in the middle; clicky here ) and is only a short (number 46) bus ride from The Cross.
