  1. I got my cable from Gerogco. One other thing is to make sure everything is set at 4800 baud. I couldn't get the Visor Prism to work at any other setting. It also takes about 30 seconds, or longer, to get them talking to each other, once they're hooked together. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet
  2. I had trouble getting a connection if I had any hacks running on my Visor Prism. Once I turned off Xmaster and Afterburner it connected right away. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet
  3. Have you set your preferences on the Pocket PC to the same coordinate display as your desktop? Sound like the preferences on your Pocket PC is set for HDD.MM.SS and not HDD.MM.MMM. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet
  4. At a minimum, most of the Bench Marks are still used for elevation purposes. Some of the marks you see are horizontal control, or azimuth marks, with a scaled elevation. I would say these monuments are getting used more now than ever before. A lot of the surveying is being done by GPS, and these "Bench Marks" have known coordinates from which you can reference the survey. The published lat/long coordinate is coverted to the State Plane coordinate system for the purpose of the survey. Hardly a week goes by that I don't have to hunt up one of these monuments, for one reason or another, to survey some piece of property. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet
  5. Look in the center of the X and see if there is a surveyors nail there. These are used for aerial mapping. The surveyor provides the 3D coordinates of the X to the aerial mapping company who then does a fly over and takes pictures of the area. These points are then digitized into the photo and a computer generates an accurate topographic map, usually with contours, buildings, etc. Depending on the height of the flight, they can obtain elevation accuracy within .5 feet or better, on contours in open areas. Horizontal accuracy is closer yet. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet
  6. quote:Originally posted by RAD Dad: True Grid...did you note that they HAVE blown up clear tupperware containers? There's usually a bunch of stuff in these things, and not all bomb squads have the ability to X-ray contents remotely, and if in doubt, they blow things up. Someone who's suspecious of an item will not pick it up, and unless there is only one or two easily identified items in the cache, it won't be clear to the uninitiated what it is. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it. I realize they have blown up both types of containers. What I'm saying is it's less likely to get blown up if you can see the contents. An ammo box looks suspicious to the general public because it is an ammo box. See-through Tupperware would seem to me to be a better choice. "True Grid" In the Pacific Northwet

  8. I have the Etrex Vista (24meg memory) and Mapsource software. If I transfer maps totaling 24 meg, does that mean I have no memory available for saving Waypoints, Tracks, etc., or do those functions use different memory? How much memory do I need to "save" when transferring maps for Waypoints and such? Thanks, Mike in the Pacific Northwet
