  1. CR, enjoyed looking through your website & caching stats as I am originally from South Carolina as well... a little more inland though, Aiken to be exact. I'm in the US Air Force stationed in Northern Cali right now. Anyway, thanks for the input...
  2. Great feedback from everyone, thanks.... I guess despite the understanding from everyone on this topic, I'll probably stop dropping the cards to eliminate the fuss. I guess what I thought to be a nice idea can be a bad idea to other people. oh and we don't just leave the card, we do the usual swag swap and throw those in seperately.
  3. OK, I'm new to caching and my whole family seems to be enjoying it. We've only done about 31 caches but there is almost always a business card in them. Well, my wife sells Avon so I thought it would be cool to leave her card & offer a free gift as well as a discount to any Cachers that called. We're not talking some dumb little $0.50 gift but usually something pretty nice. Anyway, you do not have to call or buy anything... it's your choice. Well, I've been getting rude emails this evening from another cacher that found our card in our own cache & was apparently offended by it. We're not trying to commercialize the hobby, only to offer good things to good people. So I'll briefly post this for review to the caching public for constructive remarks. If you think it's wrong to drop her card, I'll stop as we've only done it about 5 times anyway. I don't mind other people's cards but I'm not the only person involved with Geocaching. So once again I through myself to the wolves for input...
  4. Well I suppose I should apologize for my typed attitude, though I'm thinking this whole thread is rather funny. I think I'll just close this thread and get the last word in.... HA HA HA
  5. I knew it wouldn't take long I didn't ask to restrict the bugs, and you are right, it is that simple. (Oh & if people don't act like a-holes then they won't be called a-holes )
  6. Man, you ask a few questions and people are real quick to be a--holes here. Of course I could be rude too, but I only ask that people actually read the post, think about the post, and then reply. I am new to Geocaching and I am not trying to take over the TB world. I had a concern that myself, and believe it or not, others in my unimportant area were wanting some input on. I'm by no means super sensitive, in fact I can be quite the grumpy SOB sometimes too. But when you post a concern, question, or comments and you get attacked by every Tom, Dick, & Harry wanting boost their post numbers... it just makes you wonder if this really is such a wonderful community to join. Hopefully these so called "REAL" Geocachers that want to "stick their tongue out" at people asking quesitons aren't a true representation of the overall Geocaching community. Let us all count how many responses I get to this one too!!! Happy posting!!!
  7. Stupid computer... double post.
  8. Cool thanks Miragee, I would love to have a nice fancy one but I've read to many bad reviews to spend $100 for something that dies in 3 months. Plus, for now, I only want it for Geocaching...
  9. I just purchased a Palm IIIe with 2mb of memory... will it work? Will I be able to use Cachemate? I don't need to be able to download 500 caches... just 50 or so to last me a few weeks.
  10. That's not cheating at all... you're doing what is being asked. It can still travel quite a bit after it gets there.
  11. No, I don't have a "fundamental misunderstanding" of how travel bugs are supposed to work. All I'm saying is that in all fairness to other cachers wanting to be involved, and getting the opportunity to move a TB, I don't think it was cool to just drive through, grab 4 quick TBs and then depart the area. I'll just be sure that when I drop one off from now on it's more than a 1/1 near a freeway like these were.
  12. Recently a fellow cacher came through my area and grabbed at least 4 local TBs. This person does not live in the local area, in fact I believe he is from about 2 hours away. The thing is, he took 4 TBs from 4 different caches and did not leave a single bug. Now these bugs will be transported somewhere, and my area is looking evening shorter on TBs. I'm sure the TB owners don't mind as they want to see them travel, but it only makes sense to make a one for one swap... or at least don't just wisk through and grab things and run. I have about 3 new people I've introduced to caching and they, like me, enjoying finding the TBs so that they can move them along... one by one. So am I being selfish in wanting to see a few TBs in my area at all times, or is this TB bandit being selfish? What are your feelngs about TB etiquette?
  13. Thanks... I had checked all of that already. My computer sees the USB adapter but doesn't seem to go beyond that. Even selecting the exact port it is on, it gets nothing. I think I may have some bad wires... Anyway, thanks again for your help.
  14. Cymbaline, I assume you have a Rino. I hooked my Rino to the serial cable & then a USB converter... I get power to the Rino but after installing EasyGPS it does not see my Rino installed. Have you seen this? I can't tell that my computer sees my Rino at all.
  15. Do I have to have a Mapsource program or something like it?
  16. I just got back from Best Buy, got cables to hook my Rino 120 into the computer and bought my Premium membership. Now how do I download waypoints into my Rino without having to manually put them in?
  17. OK Leiplass, if you're not going to respond, or send the item I ordered from you then I will make sure all Geocachers know not to do business with you. I won your auction on the 20th of October and sent payment immediately. I've tried numerous times to contact you but I have not received a single message from you. So I'm out $20.50... No big deal to some people, but a huge deal to others. I can't believe you approached me on this site to buy something from you on ebay and then apparently drop off the face of the earth after stealing my money. I also notice that you visited the Geocaching website 2 days ago so I know you've received my messages.
  18. USAF 13.5 years Day 1- Apr 15th 1992 Edwards AFB, CA Aug 1992 - Dec 1996 Spangdahlem AB, Germany Jan 1997 - Feb 2001 Travis AFB, CA Feb 2001 - current Spent 99 days in Balad, Iraq Aug 04 - Nov 04... 150 attacks on the base while I was there. By attacks I mean, rockets and/or mortars coming in and causing us to go into Alarm Red. As I work in aircraft maintenance on the flightline, I saw several of the rockets come in and you see your life flash before your eyes daily. Every few days we'd have an aircraft come in to pick up wounded and my troops & I would help load people onto various aircraft. And about every 10 days we'd shut everything down to silently load at least one casket onto a C-130... covered in an American flag. I feel that I am a better person having been there and been a part of so much in such a short period of time. I do not regret the time I spent ducking & covering with about 50 extra pounds of armor strapped to my body. I don't even regret the time I spent away from my family. I only regret that I couldn't do more. It's not just about being in the military. It's not just about being an American. It's about caring for your fellow man, no matter where he or she is from, or their skin tone, or even their beliefs. If you have a heart, if you can feel pain... then you understand what so many people around the world are feeling. That's what we, the military... Americans, are fighting for. Forget politics, forget supposed presidental agendas, take care of each other... of every one!
  19. Leiplass, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know about the status of my order. I won your auction almost a week ago, and sent money to you through PayPal immediately but you have not sent me a single message. Not very good business practice if you ask me.
  20. I think you guys were a little harsh on ghost9mm. This person stated that they had decided to add the Livestrong bracelets into caches to support and spread the awareness of the cause and most of you focused on the fact that this person did not spend the retail price of $1.00... Not everyone that decides to do a good thing gets started off in EXACTLY the correct direction. Just makes you wonder how many people actually think for a few minutes before typing.
  21. It's funny... I just saw this same sort of question in another thread. I'd say the Garmin eTrex Legend is the best for the money. for around $125 you get a simple GPS with plenty of nice features to grow into.
  22. All of the information I've seen points to the Garmin eTrex Legend as being the best all around buy for around $125. It has a nice sized screen, a simple thumb scroll/press button, & 8mb of memory to accept map updates and cache downloads. Just read through some of the numerous threads about the differences in units and Garmin will be at the top... and for those who can't afford the $400 color units, the Legend is got to be GPS of choice for the bargain minded. I'd actually rather have one than my Rino 120... but mine was free!
  23. How long is "too long" to have a TB? I picked up one Friday but due to my work schedule it may be Thursday before I get to find a drop zone. I think I'm just the 2nd person (after the owner) to have this one, so I don't want to offend anyone... then again, I don't have much choice.
  24. A couple of newbies here in Fairfield/Vacaville/Suisun area (Myself, python571, & CDshow)... looking for the best caches in the area. I've already thoroughly enjoyed Room 2 Roam and Rockville Stinger. What are the really good ones, that won't cripple a couple of us that are already broken?
