  1. Don't worry so much. The only 'real' not-to-do's are common sense. Don't be a jerk and run around stealing caches, or vandalizing them, or moving them. After that who cares? To the OP: I really like it. Don't know if the Frog would go for it but it sounds, on the surface, a neat and easy idea to implement. I'd love a mentor...especially a hot one! (j/k)
  2. Holly cow! I missed that. I usually pick up on such things! Nice spot. ...soooo cache maggot. Anyone?
  3. Take it at face value that you are not everybody. Different people have different reasons. There is no reason to 'figure out' other cachers. They do what they do and as long as they don't bother you: Live and let live. If something doesn't affect you don't let it bother you. Seriously, someone should quote that. It'd make the world a better place. Take credit, I don't care.
  4. Cache Maggot? I did a little search today for it and figured from what I read it's a person who get an account for the purpose of stealing caches. Sound right?
  5. The trademark quote of those who don't want their conduct to be questioned. What are you saying? If what I'm doing doesn't affect you then what do you care? I'm trying to think of a parallel in the legal system. I guess your case is drugs. If I do drugs in my own home I'm not affecting you...but it is illegal. Maybe I should revise it. Live and let live. If my legal activity ain't directly affecting you then it shouldn't be bothering you either. Is that better? making a parallel between geocaching and illegal activities, seriously? now i am serisouly agigtated Yeah well I'm agitated too because your post insinuated craziness. Try reading the words. I don't have time to explain everything that has been posted up to now to you. I'll just say I've never made a "parallel between geocaching and illegal activities".

  7. Because it needs to be brought to the reviewers attention no matter where it is. have you personally visited the cache? is the cache in violation of guidelines? have you personally been at the cache location? This is a webcam cache. It is very easy to tell that the webcam in not available. It does not require a visit to the location. However, since the guideline violation in play here is simply one that deals with the type of cache, I would probably not NA this particular cache since the CO is active and the logs that are being allowed appear to be from people who have actually visited the location; ie. they are not armchair logs. It seems to be functioning as a converted virtual instead of a webcam cache. This is technically a violation and if someone wishes to log NA on it, it is completely justified. I would agree. If someone who actually went there and had a problem complained and filled out the NA then let the chips fall where they may. Fact is, in this case, someone read this thread and took it upon themselves to make a point. I wouldn't mind, but that discourages posting on this very forum and discouraging posting is not good for the caching community or the forum community. I posted this on another thread and it seems pertinent here too: Live and let live. If it ain't directly affecting you then it shouldn't be bothering you either. Words to live by.
  8. Some people feel that way, and they have made what should be a non-competitive activity less enjoyable for the rest of us. It's too bad, but the good news is that the vast majority of the numbers/FTF hounds get bored pretty quickly and drop out. One key to enjoying caching is to learn to ignore these people and enjoy caching at your own pace, on your own terms. It took me several years to reach that point, but now I just ignore the obnoxious FTF logs and the 100-mile power trails, and I am still having fun. I work in an office and get together with a few of my friends to meet on Saturdays and go on a scenic nature hike. We have a ton of fun the first week and word spreads and the next week more show up. After a few months we have dozens of people going on our nature hike. Some of the co-workers have decided to race the hiking trail. They want to see who can finish the trail the fastest. EVERYBODY is having a good time. What do us 'hikers' care if some of us want to jog or run or sprint the trail? It DOESN'T affect us. Live and let live. If it ain't directly affecting you then it shouldn't be bothering you either. <-----Print that out and read it every morning.
  9. Well, I'm in a unique position. I fly airplanes for a living so I can be in Sun Valley, ID in the Morning and Maine in the evening with a stop in Alabama for lunch. My job affords me a great opportunity to see many many caches, but I'm always worried about plants mostly and animals and crazies with guns and an invisible property line. I've been in the thick of flora and wondered to myself if any of these plants are going to make me unable to fly this afternoon. So far I have been lucky. I have used the internet on my iPhone to research specific things listed on a cache page. That's how I figured out the 'clusters of three leave it be'. But I was hoping this thread might shed even more light for the wide geographic geocacher. It has already. KC provided a great 'how to' post and is exactly what I was looking for. He then went and parody'd me in OT but that's worth it. Click my user name to see where I've been these past 6 months. Here is a map of a single week at work for me. Every blue dot is a potential cache adventure. That's why the thread... KC beat me to it. I agree it can be found online. But a little sage advice here can't hurt. Edited to address previous post. 10. Ya'll see the article in Time Magazine talking about the bats dying in the millions in the North East of the USA? Some sort of fungus spreading across the bat population. It's evidenced by white fungus on their noses. It's in the issue with a picture of Obama on the cover and the headline of "Obama's World". January 30, 2012 is the date on the upper right corner which is weird as today is only the 22nd. How's that work? Anyway, the article makes the bat genocide look pretty worrisome. Look for massive insect infestations to come and ruin some cache hikes, oh and our food crops.
  11. +1 +2 Relax, it was a joke. I didn't log it. Read my logs for reassurance that I go get dirty if you must.
  12. I said I wouldn't post about it. Sorry to break my word. Yes, it was a simple traditional. P&G as I recall. CO wanted 100 plus finders for some reason and threatened to delete any finds that didn't meet muster. I reviewed my logs as I thought I DNF'd it out of protest, but now see that I just passed it by and didn't bother to look.
  13. I'd log it. In fact I just did, but that's how I roll. No need to go and get all dirty with this internet based sport.
  14. If you eventually get into setting up your own cache someday, why not setup a "No FTF" cache, where as only those cachers without a FTF can claim the find. Or perhaps make sure the physical log is already pre-signed by someone/anyone who does not care about a FTF. This would discourage FTFers in your area. He wouldn't because that would be against the guidelines. I once found a cache that had a requirement to have logged 100 finds or the CO would delete your smiley. Would that too be against the rules? Just curious. If it is I'm not going to go back and complain, just wondering. Sorry about the side thread topic. Reply if you want. I'll not post about it again. I only brought it up because a Mod posted about a similar side topic.
  15. That's what happens when Detroit tries to be 'hip' and relavant.
  16. No need to get upset. I'm sorry if my post inflamed you. I was just trying to help. I knew I shouldn't have put the 'changed my tone' part in there. I posted it, and re-read it. I noticed it was a little 'toney' with the "what were you hoping to find here" line. Then I noticed your join date was this month and I felt even worse...so I changed it. The point of my post remains though and I'd just suggest you go out and do it and not worry about how others play. If you see them getting FTF's and think to yourself, "I'd like to get some of those" then great! Go do it if that's important to you. Obviously it's important to them and that's why they do it. That's all. Again, sorry if I incited you in some way.
  17. Had to pull the Wiki Page for that one. Thanks. It looks like you have to ingest it though for it to be harmful.
  18. Response to bolded bit: And they do it for FTF. So what? People do things for different reasons on this blue marble in space. Turns out people are individuales with different motivations. If FTF is important to you then rush out like they did. If not then don't. I see you're very new so I'll change my tone. It's just a game. People play it different ways. If you see a way that looks better to you then do that. If not then keep doing what you're doing. Most of all, have fun. That's the point.
  19. I would think its okay but I'm not a reviewer. Maybe do a search for other PC game teamed caches and see what they're doing? Also, if your plan is to place the real world cache in Seattle then maybe contact their reviewer for guidance. Good luck. I think a really cool cache is shaping up.
  20. You don't need the Minecraft tie-in on the cache page. Make the cache name "Minecraft something-or-other" if you want but otherwise just make it a normal cache. Then, in game tie it to the real world cache. That way Groundspeak doesn't have any grounds to deny it and the Minecraft community still has access to your 'outside the box' idea. I think yours is a pretty interesting idea. I also think it would be fine if normal cachers could find it using traditional means and there was an alternate means that nobody knew about except those who, as you say, already own the game. Problem solved. You're welcome. edit to clean up a few typos.
  21. "On the trail to the cache" is a pretty weak description of the danger. I was hoping for a picture and a description of how to identify said danger.
  22. Sounds like it worked. Non premiums didn't take or destroy the cache. Seriously, life is better if you don't worry about others. Does it blow? Sure. Is there anything you can do? Nope. Pick your battles and when picking try to choose ones you have a chance of winning.
