  1. This forum is more appropriate how? Seems awfully 'On Topic' to me.
  2. Is it common sense to legislate me out of any area of a park? Sure, restrooms of opposite sex come to mind. Maybe park offices if there. But to make it a crime for an adult to be on a play ground without kids? I get not wanting the creepy guy there staring down kids with one hand in his pants. So arrest him I say. To just ban adults without kids is crazy, IMO. What if I'm playing catch with my adult friend and the ball goes into the playground area? Is it illegal to retriev it? Can a safety inspector inspect the playground equipment without a token kid? Could a cop investigate a crime at the pkayground without bringing a kid? I know these are over the top, but it seems to me the intent is to ensure an adult in a park or near a playground with kids has a purpose. I submit looking for a cache is indeed a purpose and I'm having a hard time trying to see why it should be illegal.
  3. Me in a park does not equal 'unsafe for kids to play'.
  4. Do nothing. Seems they dissappear quick enough on their own. This.
  5. Well this is refreshing. For some reason I thought I'd find a buch of support for this cache. Thank you all.
  6. Anybody see a problem with this cache?
  7. I don't mind the playground caches. I'm a man too. I just don't go when there's kids there. There's nothing more creepy about a guy searching an empty playground than anywhere else. It's just a playground. I'm not suggesting talking to kids or stuffing them into your trunk here...
  8. Well, I heard back from the previous cache owner and he gave me his (their...father son thing) blessing. Looks like all well that ends well. I've submitted already but am waiting on my container shipment from Amazon. Should be up soon. Cache number 1 for me. Close to the house too so it'll be easy to maintain.
  9. All questions I asked the previous owner as stated in the OP. Oh, there I go being obnoxious again...sorry... Yes, those are all good questions. I should...errrr will....er, did ask the previous cache owner those questions. I'm anxious to hear from him. In the mean time I've submitted my request for a cache on that location. I am awaiting the delivery of the host though from Amazon so I have a few days to play with. If the previous owner emails me or the reviewer that he wants the spot back, then that's fine. If not then I can work out my first cache with my local reviewer. Either way it's sort of a win/win for the cacheing community. That's how I see it anyway. Sorry to anyone whos feathers I may have ruffled at any time here to fore.
  10. Well, 7 months actually, Doc. I think it will be alright. It's been "a while", and if you can not get a hold of the guy, go for it. I can give you an example where myself and a few other local Geopals did find it quite rude. A well-established cacher archived a missing cache of his on his own after it was missing. A newer cacher, who doesn't know any of us locals, and makes no attempt to contact the previous owner, runs out the same day, and places a cache there. Well, about 10 feet away, actually. Then he even puts how he just had to instantly run out and do this in his cache description. I don't care what anyone says, this was quite tacky. So I appreciate your concern, and caution. Because there are cases when you can come off as rude and obnoxious. In my opinion, of course. I challenge you to name just one such event you bovine excri.... ...okay. Maybe you have a point. Seriously, I try to be courteous and just wanted input before I submitted on an old spot. In my eyes I've never been obnoxious...but, beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all.
  11. How long should a guy wait to place a cache in an archived spot? Maybe the cache owner archived it because he was notified the location was private and the owner didn't want it there. Maybe the cache was constantly getting muggled and the owner got tired of it. Maybe the owner just decided to stop caching. I don't know. I did email the owner of the cache and asked these questions and have yet to hear a response. How long should I wait? A day? A week? Month? Year? Decade? I'd like to place a cache in the spot previously occupied but also don't want to step on toes. What say you? Here's the cache.
  12. I think I have a normal trait in that when I find a cache, particularly a well concealed one, I want to share. But, at that moment I'm in the woods alone and my next action is to log the find before heading out to the next. I find myself wanting to type in the "found it" message things like, "man, I never would have looked in that piece of fence, it blended right in! I could have sworn it was in the tree! Awesome camo". But of course you can't put that stuff as it spoils it for the next cachers. Has anyone thought to have a separate owner only section where you can write just to the CO? That would help satisfy a primal human need to share. What do y'all think?
  13. That's a better idea. By the way CatfishPilot, I'll bet the thread could have run hundreds of posts without anyone pointing out you have no hides of your own. Nice combative pre-emptive strike though. I don't know...it a pretty common response. I think I'd take that bet. It was a good post, made a lot of sense, and I think most people would agree with me. To be honest, I thought it was quite strange you felt the need to add "There's my .02. Btw, I'm sure somebody is going to point out that I'm complaining with zero hides myself. To those I'd like to offer a preemptive 'stuff it'" to the end of it. Okay. I regret the last sentence. Thought it would come off as funny...but in my attempt to thwart one attack I invited another. Maybe it was funny after all.

  15. No way is FaceBook paying Groundspeak. It is in FB interest to get their brand all over the Internet, but they are so large with so many users that is is more in GS interest to tap into that massive scale. If I log in with FB and tie the accounts now when I find a cache it get posted to my wall. My friends see it and word spreads. It is hugely in GS interest to use FB, not the other way around.
  16. I just recently found a cache Spy Games that had a hint. The hint is 'Not in a Sprinkler Head' Now, 'Not in a Sprinkler Head' is in and of its self good information. The actual cache is close to several sprinkler heads. I would imagine some cachers might take to tearing apart sprinklers without this information. And that's my point. Why hide useful information that protects property in a hint that some won't read at all and many won't read unless they get stuck. I say put information that protects property right in the description so everyone knows not to trample the flowers or rip up the bushes or tear apart sprinkler heads. Hints should just be nudges in the right direction for those who want extra help, not required information for all. There's my .02. Btw, I'm sure somebody is going to point out that I'm complaining with zero hides myself. To those I'd like to offer a preemptive 'stuff it' : )
  17. I think they just do map searches like the rest of us. I thought it was cool how well a random cache can actually help train SAR professionals.
  18. I'm a pilot and I'm talking to a pilot friend who flies a helicopter and does SAR (search and rescue). The topic of caching comes up and he tells me, yeah...we do that for training. He said its great for simulating a down hiker. They plot the lat/long of a cache, enter a search pattern and look for an insertion point, land and make their way to the hiker...plus they get a smiley face too! How cool would caching be if you had a government paid helicopter to do it in? Anybody ever see a bunch of folks in jump suits and crash helmets with a rescue kit looking out for muggles?
  19. It says that you have 66 posts. Ameliaonstage, would you care to respond and explain yourself? Is it 62 or 66?
  20. As a retired climber who has done too many rappels to count, I agree with the urging of others to keep the colors neutral. Minimizing the visual impact of any hardware left behind has been a standard among climbers for about two decades now. Some additional considerations: 1. Rock quality - rappels over "rotten rock" can cause substantial rockfall, endangering both the person on rappel, and anyone who happens to be below them. 2. Availability of solid natural anchors. 3. Potential problems with rope retrieval. 4. Fall lines. But the 3 most important considerations are safety, safety, and safety! Have fun! You could have at least mentioned safety. Common out there!
  21. Ran into K-Man today while I went back to look for the key. I think his post makes the point. I've changed my mind on this one. I started out thinking it should be a mystery or multi, but now agree with the type listed. K-Man told me one of the questions that kept coming up was how to size the cache. Is it a Regular because the cache is that size or a micro because the key is what you must find to find the cache? I guess it just shows how diverse things can get when people use a lot of creativity when making a cache. All and all I think K-Man and the reviewer nailed it and listed it the way it should be.
  22. Well okay. I guess I'll just have to go back out when the sun is up. The cache is bolted onto a wooden fence surrounding a mobile electrical trailer that powers some sort of water treatment. I sure hope I don't have to jump a locked fence to find the key, cause that is not going to happen. Still seems odd to find the cache on a traditional but be unable to log it. Oh well, TPTB approved it so I guess it is what it is. Let ya all know hat happens tomorrow... Edit for typo
  23. Is this the proper cache type? GC2MMDK I launched off to be FTF and found the cache. It's listed as a traditional cache, but when I found it the cache was locked. I looked back at the description and sure enough it says you have to find a key 'in the immediate vicinity'. I looked and no joy on the key. But is it okay to lock a traditional and make people go find a key? Wouldn't that be a multi or a mystery type cache? What do ya all think?
  24. That problem will be addressed when Lat / Long have elevation information.
  25. I don't get it. When it's: "He's posting videos" the threads are full of rage. When it's: "He's dead" the treads are full of respect. My point is certainly not to carry the rage into this thread. Maybe we could tone down the rage on others? I've seen Sven's work and was impressed. I think he did all of us a service by casting what we do in the most positive of lights. There are folks RIGHT NOW getting the same treatment on these forums as what Sven got. Please think before you throw stones at our fellow cachers. RIP and thinking of another in need...TAR. edited to add the quotes.
