  1. Ok update, still doesn't work for desktop browser but was able to make it work uploading one at a time on my iphone. (not from app but via safari)
  2. Hi so I have been trying to upload a couple photos which are the requirement for a virtual I did on the weekend. I have had some trouble with the new uploader but tonight it doesn't want to work at all. I converted the images to jpgs at 300kb and it still just endlessly spins. Tried Firefox and Chrome and no difference. (i'm on Mac if that's a factor) My Mom is also struggling with the upload on her end. I have contacted the CO to say I am struggling to upload the photos so they don't delete my log before i can get the images online.
  3. Honestly.... this month was a downer for me. I hate streaks, they suck the fun out of everything in my opinion because they make it a chore. You are actively not finding caches because you need to save it for a bad day when you're sick or the weather is miserable. (the wildfire smoke and extreme heat make it pretty brutal where I am in Toronto) I liked signals Labyrinth because it was more flexible, I could take my time if something was bad that month. The wheel of challenges feels too grindy for me you know? Probably shouldn't be so pessimistic because i like collecting souvenirs but it is getting harder to feel motivated when I know I wont be able to complete this month without killing myself. The souvenir is cute too....
  4. I was really excited when i heard about this on my adventure labs. It's a great idea! Out of curiosity, is there any plans to add country/region to an adventure lab? Would be really nice to see my adventure lab finds on vacation added to my map. That way i have a more accurate view of finds per country, province etc. Not sure how much work that would be though.
  5. I had a feeling this would be the case. Oh well I guess I will just have to stick with my static image buttons. Thank you for confirming. And thank you to everyone else for your responses!
  6. Yup! I checked and most of the HTML is working. (font colours, static images, image links, URLs etc. all work fine) It's simply any rollover related coding that seems to get pulled out.
  7. That's what I thought. Unfortunately I don't think they allow CSS (like your example) in cache descriptions as any time i've tried it gets stripped out. Any example I could find of pure HTML code also got stripped out so i'm at a loss.
  8. Hello Everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me. I've been trying to create a simple, image based rollover button in HTML for a geocaching series. But whenever I add in code for it, the coding tends to disappear once the page is saved. (leaving only the basic image link code) I'm not sure if it means I can't create it in this way or if i'm just missing something. Basically I'm hoping that someone can help me create the coding so that when a user runs their mouse over the image, it changes to a second image to make it look like the text lights up. I have included an example of two images i want to flip between. At the moment I only have a basic image link which is ok but i think it would really stand out as buttons if i can do a rollover. My basic image link coding <a href="http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCXRHE_great-white-north-geotour-victoria-vistas?guid=3d88eb59-845e-44de-90bc-760c76feddbf" target="_blank"><img src="https://i.imgur.com/H9OWpXO.png" border="0" alt="image link British Colombia" /></a> If it's not possible, then i'll just stick with my image links. Figured before I give up, i could throw it out here and see if an expert is watching. Thanks!
  9. I get what you're saying but i'm still concerned that this is going to stop a lot of users from finding great caches. This new app is partly to teach new geocachers about the game (they have a lot of helpful little videos) but how will a tutorial about a multi help if you can't actually find a multi? If you want to grow the business and get more geocachers pumped to sign up for the great features the premium membership brings, why limit them to only 1.5/1.5 traditionals? (most caches in forests are at least a 2 terrain) Lets face it most of the newbies aren't going to have a GPS because they are still trying the game out to see if they like it and wont know if any other apps are good. Plus in the city a handheld GPS is more prone to signal bounce than cellphones. I just think this arbitrary 1.5/1.5 traditional only rule isn't a good idea and is going to turn more users (especially newbies) off than it will get people to upgrade to premium. Premium has tons of amazing features to attract users in it's own right they don't need to force them.
  10. But there's the rub. If they wanted to listen to cache owners, shouldn't they stick with the conscious decision we made? You CHOSE to make your caches premium and that's great! It gives premium members unique caches to find, I do the same with some of mine. BUT I have also made the decision to make caches available for everyone. Yes sometimes they get muggled, but that happens on my premium ones too. Just the life of being a cache owner. Shouldn't it be up to me if I want my caches found by only premium?
  11. I agree, new members wont be able to try out any different cache types and can't go caching in a forest because that's at least a 2 terrain. I guess that just leaves lamp post skirts and film canisters in parks. (how is that going to hook anyone to pay for premium if that's all you see?) Geocaching is so much more than that!! I also think it's a bit of a slap in the face to cache owners. I place caches to be found and make the decision if I want it to be premium or not (and I have several premium only) but now effectively all my downtown caches made to be tourist friendly and able to be found by everyone can't be found by the new app. (including my multi set up to be a walking tour of the city that I spent a lot of time creating!) Also expect to see a spike in 1.5/1.5 traditionals because that's all that can be found by newbies and people who don't cache enough to make premium worth it.
  12. (I originally posted this in Iphone but i think this should be discussed among android users too.) Hey Groundspeak! I just found out from a friend of mine what's going on with the new geocaching app. He's a regular member because he doesn't get out caching much (new baby) and when he went to do the virtual in downtown Toronto that I have been bugging him to do forever, he was unable to open it in the new app. For anyone who doesn't know, this is because Groundspeak has put in place a rule in the new app that if you're a regular member, you get 1.5/1.5 Traditionals only. (You still can see others will "geocaching classic" but who knows how long before it gets discontinued) Now, I know most people will just hear the regular members groaning about this but I want to add my perspective because regular members aren't the only ones affected. I have been a premium member since 2011 and I'm a cache owner. I have both premium caches, and ones available for everyone and I'm really ticked that now all of the sudden a lot fewer people will be able to find my caches. I spend a lot of time setting up and considering how I should rate each cache. Downtown I have a really special multi that I spent months setting up to make it tourist friendly and wanted to make it so that everyone visiting my hometown could have a great unique experience. But now thanks to this new app, there are going to lots of cachers who will miss out on experiences like this just because they aren't sure about taking geocaching to the next level. Yes I understand running a site and apps aren't free, (that's partly why i'm a premium member in the first place) but that's what premium features are for, not cutting out caches without owners consent. The site has a lot of amazing features, keep promoting them and people will join on their own terms. Groundspeak said themselves that a free app is the best way for new members to learn about the hobby, so why are we preventing them from finding cool caches and trying everything geocaching has to offer? This lockout will lead to new geocachers only finding the same, more boring traditionals, over and over and over. (the first lampost skirt was great but imagine if that's all you can find...ever) All the unique, different, tricky caches that really hook new members, the ones that people talk about at events will be lost. This will only promote more 1.5/1.5 traditionals filling up space and a decrease to all other cache types and anything tricker than a 1.5. (or people rating it low to make it available to be found) I place caches to be found, and to hopefully inspire new members to join in on the fun and hide their own creative caches but now probably 90% of my caches available to regular members can't be accessed on this new app. I want to make my voice heard now when it's just an app and not the full website because you never know. (Give 'em an inch, they take a mile is the old saying) Sorry for the rant and thanks for listening. See you on the Trails, Dave (DarkFlare of Toronto, Canada)
  13. I don't blame you for being mad, i'm a premium member and i'm ticked about it. (but for a different reason) I have some great caches downtown to show off my city that I made available for all members so that regardless of if you're a regular member, premium, newbie, tourist, local, or whatever, the caches can be found and you can enjoy yourself and have a unique experience. I spent two months setting up a very special multi with that in mind but it can't be found now by regular members with their iphone, along with my traditional (it's in a high traffic area so its trickier than a 1.5) and my letterbox. Effectively all my downtown caches can't be found even though I WANTED them to be found by regular members too. I have premium caches for premium members. I just think this is a bit of a slap in the face to cache owners you know?

  15. I'd like to start the ball rolling with my favourite Virtual I have ever found in my geocaching career because it taught me something really neat about the city I grew up beside. With 370 favourite points and counting, it's probably the most popular cache in Toronto and I specifically saved it for my 1000th find. It's The Old City Hall Message by Nozzletime http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6069_the-old-city-hall-message The Old City Hall message takes you on a unique hunt at one of Toronto's oldest and most beautiful buildings. I had passed this building many times and never realized there was a hidden message emblazoned across the length of the building in giant letters. Without giving away the message itself, you have to start at the northeast corner of old city hall and follow it around three sides of the building, collecting up information along the way until suddenly you have the answer right in front of you. The cache description helps to fill in the rest of the gaps as to why the message exists. If you're ever in downtown Toronto and do only one cache, I highly recommend that you make it this one
  16. I noticed Canada's forum is looking a little bare so I want to change that but starting up a conversation. I want to see the coolest caches from coast to coast. Show me your biggest, hardest, most cleaver, or most memorable finds that you have come across in your experience. Caches that truly deserve those favourite points. If you want, post a couple pictures or give us the GC codes! I want to find more caches outside my hometown and would love suggestions for when I eventually come to your city or province. I'll even post a couple favourites from the GTA. We're a big country with tons of caches to discover!
  17. I understand it's very unlikely but I figured what's the harm in hoping, eh? Besides if you're there anyway you might as well find a cache and possibly get a cool story or pictures from it. I agree that would make a lot of sense because the UK is extremely diverse and has a pretty big geocaching population. I suspect they just didn't have enough time for all the selectable areas that make up the UK. Who knows maybe Groundspeak may decide to change it in the future (probably not until they have set up souvenirs for a lot more countries that are currently go without) That would be really cool! I really hope that you do get to go to Paris! I know from experience Dublin is an awesome city to visit and I have heard very good things about Iceland from a coworker who went. So either would be an interesting place to stop, even if it's only for a couple hours.
  18. The coolest thing I have ever found in a cache would have to be a Silver Dollar that commemorated Confederation when the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia merged together to create the great country of Canada I could not believe someone left that in a container! Another thing I love is a Ontario cacher named Fababoo, who every year comes out with a new Christmas cache that is filled to the brim with brand new unique christmas ornaments. I think he works for an engraving company or something because they look professionally done wooden ornaments. They are super cool! I think I have 6 of them at this point.
  19. I personally believe that people need to write longer logs. As a cache owner, there is nothing more disheartening than when I receive a mere "TFTC" (or in one case I actually had someone hit the space bar just they could find it without typing anything) It's sad because I put a lot of time and effort into new caches I create and love to hear what people think and how they did or how their day went. (good or bad!) I will admit, I am one that tends to overdo my logs. If I only do one or two that day and it's really memorable I will just go on and on about it and in general cache owners seem to appreciate it. (i've had several positive emails and my name was once recognized at a mega event just because of my large logs) I have to say I am guilty of cut and paste logs from time to time but I try to limit it to only power trails where every cache looks the same. On occasion even on mega events when the whole day blends together (but I really try not to!) To be honest I think cache owners that create power trails tend to expect this but would prefer to have one interesting log over just "TFTC"for all. But I do try to tailor it to the cache too, ESPECIALLY if it was memorable. I will do a paragraph about the day and then as much as I can about the cache itself. It usually takes a while but I think it's appreciated. Afterall you can't please everyone, so just do what you think is right.
  20. I was also bitten by the travel bug and became a big time Souvenir Hunter! I just wish I had the opportunity to get more countries under my belt. But alas money to travel that far is hard right now. So instead I do road trips from my base of operations just outside Toronto, Canada and have been trying to track down as many provinces and states as possible. Often even just a weekend road trip. It's fun to let the caches shape the adventure. In 2013, I went with my sister to 9 states (plus Washington DC) in a weekend and the caches brought me to spots I had no idea about including a Free mason temple and Benjamin Franklin's Grave. I'm now up to 28/51 Souvenirs in America and 3/13 in Canada. Last year though I was extremely lucky to go on a tour of Great Britain and Ireland. (a trip I will never forget!!) I managed to find a cache in England, Wales and Scotland (just in case they find a way to give unique souvenirs to each of them) as well as 4/5 souvenirs in Ireland! As for this year I have two big road trips planned. One to finally get the Atlantic provinces to the east (I have been dieing to get New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI) and the other will be to the deep south, to finally explore New Orleans and get 5 more (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida) which will give me the entire eastern seaboard of the US ...yes I may have a problem. Hopefully soon I will be able to go grab some more countries and really explore this huge amazing world.
  21. I'd say do some searching for your local geocaching club. You will be shocked how many places have their own clubs with with their own website. (some more active than others) For example, I live close to Toronto and sometimes join up with the Golden Horseshoe Monthly Geocaching Club (GHMGC). They have a facebook page where they regularly meet up for massive geocaching frenzies across Southern Ontario. Or just look for geocaching events that pop up in your area or host your own. If you're social you'll meet all level of obsessed cachers. Last time I went to a Kawartha Cacher's Breakfast, I met a new friend and since then have went out for big hikes or Kayaking for illusive 5 terrains quite a lot (at one point it was every weekend!)
