  1. here's a pic that's a little better than the ones I posted earlier, this is the containers in natural light, I just got them loaded in the truck so they will be close at hand as I look for new locations. Lock N Lock containers have really grown on me, so much cheaper than decons and ammo cans and the variety of sizes means you can find one to fit the spot. All these caches need is some swag and they will be ready to go! I just added the logbooks and pencils a little while ago. I enjoyed painting these so much I don't think I'll ever use camo tape again.
  2. caches are loaded into GPS months in advance, I get in the truck and go. I don't use any mapping software or any stinkin maps, and half the time no notes either. If I get lost along the way, that just adds to the experience. It's funny, this past weekend I was out with some other cachers and they started discussing something along these very same lines and they had complicated procedures as well, me I'm too lazy for that crap. Just gimmie the coords and I'll find my way there eventually.
  3. trial and error mostly, with the ones with the maple leaf pattern I started with a light brown, the lightest color I had and worked my way up to the darkest, black. For a darker camo on the ammo can and the 2 dark Lock N Locks I started with a flat green and just kept layering until I got them the way I wanted. I used the flat green and black paint the most, if you can get the shadows just right, (and I've seen containers that do this) it'll blend in perfectly. The darker containers will likely be hidden in thicker wooded spots while the lighter, fall-color ones will be in areas with lots of leaf debris.
  4. not really cool containers, just bought some camo spray paint and did some experimenting with a variety of containers: Don't know where they are all going yet, the ammo can originally had camo tape on it, I sprayed right over it so it now has somewhat of a texture to it. We'll see what paint scheme proves to be the best at hiding them as time goes on, I've been going with mostly larger containers lately since I like to have a logbook where people can actually write more than just the date and name.
  5. I personally don't care, there was the big fiasco where Team Desert Eagle, who lives about 60 miles north of me was threatened by another cacher who said he'd steal his caches for every FTF over the limit of 3 per week. It was first in the MIGO forums, then it spread to here where it went for quite a while. Needless to say, the threats haven't slown him down any and I'm happy for him. He enjoys going for the FTF, good for him. I honestly don't even know how many FTFs I have and I really don't care either
  6. I've made a few deletions, I've had a few cachers log multiple finds and I deleted the extra ones without warning and never heard anything about it.
  7. here's my best self-portrait while caching. I plan to buy a remote for my D50 soon so I won't have to use the timer anymore though.
  8. and since MaxB lives near me, I've seen MANY of their tags. So many in fact I'm always surprised when I run across one they haven't moved! Funny this is mentioned, I just read this earlier and it ticked me off: see this log for a bug I moved that has Max B and Lost Scouts tags on it: Presidential Seal I'd be ticked if they were removed from my bug, I consider them part of the history of it's travels. As someone else mentioned, those who add tags are very good about moving bugs and taking pictures. I'd rather have one of these people pick up one of my bugs than some noob who's first TB turns out to be mine anyday. (My Tired Tire TB is in this position now)
  9. I saw one that was a 3.5, but it was an easy climb, I raised mine to 4 because there are no branches the first 3.5-4 ft of the tree. You have to find one other puzzle cache then solve a second puzzle for my one in the tree so it hasn't had a ton of visitors. It's a requirement that you sign the physical logbook though to log a find, I know some cachers are clever so I said I don't care how it's retrieved. All it is is a decon container hanging from a branch. I actually haven't been out to check it in a while to see if people are replacing it correctly. Cachers do have a real problem with putting caches back where they belong. I stopped to take photos of a unique container for a micro I had, it had only been found 5 or 6 times in the week or so its been active and already it was over 10 feet from where I originally placed it. Anyway, I meant mine to be difficult, but not a terrain 5....not yet anyway, I plan to set up a 5/5 this winter, while the one I mention above is my most difficult cache, when I hid it, it was just a warm-up for what's to come.
  10. I've got one about 15 ft up a half-dead tree. Added a dangerous area and difficult climbing attribute and a terrain rating of 4. It can be climbed without any special equipment, but it is difficult. so far, it's been probably my most-well recieved cache by the few who have found it.
  11. I found a matchstick container stuffed in a rubber lizard....
  12. that takes all the fun out of photos like that....lol btw, since this topic is bumped again, here's some newer photos I took at the cemetery mentioned above for the record, I do believe the white speck in the second photo is a bug, but the mist in the backround I have no explanation for. But more important, I've heard and seen stuff there since that's more than convincing enough for me the place is haunted!
  13. If you must know, I have 7 caches and 3 travel bugs on my watchlist of the 7 caches I've only found one of them. I know I'm not gonna put a watch on all the caches I've found, especially ones like Tamrack Cache that get visited 2-3 times a week, and especially not the Maryland Project APE I found that gets 2-3 visits a day! Most of them are caches I found interesting and want to someday do, on my watchlist is a Unknown cache where you find it by finding a travel bug that has the coords with it. I have both the bug and cache on watchlist until I find that one. Another bug on my list is Cold War Relic, just because after I moved it I wanted to see how far it would go. and the last bug on my watchlist belongs to a local cacher, I was the first to move it and wanted to see if it would complete it's goal to get back to MI after I dropped it in Maryland. Does this satisfy your curiosity? Now who's watching my cache? Dang it!
  14. interesting post, see the photos I took for Presidential Seal of Approval I helped this bug achieve it's goal and so much more. It's owners were very happy and excited with it's progress after I finally dropped it off. If it was my bug, I'd be jealous! Max B gets nice photos too, I've been to their place where their TB hotel is located. They always take a photo of every bug on the deck railing there. I've got pics of my bugs there too. It's nice to have such a dedicated bug mover so close to home, yet I still have not met them in person! lol edited to add photos of bug mentioned above..... Presidential Seal at it's goal of the White House In the Rotunda at the National Archives, where the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and other famous documents are housed... At Arlington National Cemetery, you can see the Washington Monument and other famous DC landmarks in the distance not a great photo, but the Vietnam Memorial In front of the Wright Brothers Memorial at the site of the first flight. (btw, that huge monument is a benchmark!) Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Atlantic Ocean I didn't take as many of this Partners in Caching geocoin, but it did get a photo of it's real-life resemblance!
  15. yeah there are some locals that have done that, I don't know if intentional or not, but then again I don't really care.
  16. I went to DC a few weeks ago, only claimed virtuals but came away with some truely awesome photos, some of my favorites: [ur=http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=c45e5385-91dc-4aff-8cf1-84e27166b1dc&IID=6498cf5e-74fb-488c-add6-c3f2ab11499b]Log[/url] Log Log
  17. cool, I recently decided to make a few caches into a series around here, I'm currently researching more locations for new stuff: Haunts and Local Legends I love caches in places like these and I wish there were more
  18. I like them all, I like cleverly camo'd ones especially. Speaking of which I've got a clever camo job ready to hide tomorrow. I know a lot of people will enjoy the find itself but I'm gonna try to find a great location to make it even better. I've been hiding fewer micros in favor of containers with larger logbooks because I like to read people's experiences in them.
  19. One time I was leaving a store parking lot when I saw one of the local cachers pull in. (No cache there, this was a shopping trip) so swung back to talk to him a while. Another time I was in a park full of caches metal detecting when I came across 2 cachers who I only knew from logs in the past. I run into some of the locals at least once or twice a month I would guess.
  20. Yup, you won't find an ammo can or decon by me that isn't labeled. I normally cover my ammo cans with camo tape, one I didn't but I did mark on all sides, even the bottom geocache and covered the military markings. Someone mentioned peeling the stickers off Decons, I've done that too if I don't cover it with camo tape. I then use a marker pen to write offical geocache over the molded warning on the top.
  21. whew....speaking of DC, thank god I didn't take THIS PHOTO with a camera phone!
  22. wait a min, I was in DC a few weeks ago and I took tons of photos around the monuments, of course I got lots of other people in the photos as well, I'm sure I showed up in a few people's photos as well, regular cameras and crap phones (I refer to camera phones as crap phones because the cameras in camera phones are well,....crappy) Looks like everyone there was breaking the law!!!! *gasp* anyway, now I find out I have a ton of illegal photos of people on my computer?! Why some of those rude tourists at DC walked right into the frame they were so desperate to be photographed! sorry, I have to agree, that's really silly and there is nothing illegal about it. lol honestly if that happened to me I'd be insulted and tell the police so. I own a 6.1 MP Nikon D50 digital SLR, why would I be taking blurry, half-mega-pixel photos of people with a camera phone that is of worse quality than a webcam, when the D50 would provide more professional results?
  23. AR, if permission is such a big deal to you, why is this info not listed on the caches you own? I only looked at two listings but saw no such info. if this is so important to you, instead of demanding a system on the site, why don't you lead by example for the locals and just put the info in the listing to begin with? What if one of your caches gets blown up? What are you gonna say after that? Listing who you got proper permission from is already an option....it's called the DESCRIPTION! You can use as much space as you want so why aren't you putting the contact info already? Making such a system an option would have no effect in my opinion. AR, I suggest you quit trolling and start practicing what you preach.
  24. yup I love cemetery ones this one sounds like a cool one place it!
  25. I had one with my name on it hidden by a local. I got FTF just barely (10-15 mins) if they had beat me I wouldn't have cared, no big deal to me.
