  1. Thanks for the info Gaddiel! I'm sure that's probably what it is. I was very reluctant, but I'm sure there are some out there that think it is real and will go for it. Its sad to see that there are people out there who think this is cool and will do anything to get whatever they want for free. I'd like to see someone drop the hammer on these guys and nail them for what they're doing!
  2. My guess would be the marketing scam. It says you don't have to pay anything for the items and all that. They say it is legal, but then again I'm sure they'd say anything to make a few bucks. I would research it Alphawolf, but I don't know what it is called to look up more info. Do you know where I would start or what it is called?
  3. OK, pardon me if I'm asking a stupid question, but I was just searching eBay for GPS units when I saw a couple of auctions saying they were selling information on how to receive free electronics...including GPSr's. Can anyone tell me if this works? It seems hokey and I wouldn't mind paying $7 in order to get a bunch of free stuff, but knowing my luck I'd pay the money and then it either wouldn't work for me or I'd get a bunch of junk I can't use. If anyone has any info or has used this before, please post up. I'd like to hear more info.
  4. Alright, last spring I sold my Garmin 12 with the intent of getting another unit. Things kept popping up and I haven't replaced it yet. I'm wanting to replace it in the near future, but I need some more info and I'm not sure where to find it. A guy I know had the Merigreen which I thought was VERY cool, but comparing it to the 12 is about pointless. I've since seen the SportTrac line come out. Is this line replacing the Merigreen or just simply another unit? Also, I was told that the Magellan software is better at like city maps and the Garmin software is better at like topo or "country" maps. Is this true or were they just comparing a street software to a topo software? My main uses will be for finding hunting and fishing spots (and the way back to the truck!) and for caching. I will have limited use for the city maps. I've seen several posts saying the Merigreens were selling for like $120 or something like that. I thought maybe they were phasing out the green line and replacing them with the SportTrac line. A friend has a new Garmin (can't remember which one) but I don't like the idea of not being able to upgrade the memory. Thanks for the help!
  5. The unit has been sold! Thanks for everyone who contacted me.
  6. I'm selling my Garmin 12 to upgrade to a Magellan Meridian. You wouldn't be able to tell the unit was used unless I told you so. No scratches on the screen and everything works perfectly. Software has been updated. It comes with the PC cable and manual. This is a great starting unit. After using it for a couple of hunting seasons, I'm looking to upgrade for something a little better. Right now I'm asking $90. Send me offers for trade also!
  7. I had filled out the form to place a virtual cache (my first one!) and figured it would leave me directions on how to set up the password or certificate for people to use to verify they visited the cache, but it didn't. Can anyone tell me how to do this or where I can go to read about how it is done? Thanks!
  8. I figured that most of the people looking for the cache wouldn't have seen this post and even if they do, oh well. I thought I would put a twist on the cache and name the cache "Knot what it seems". Maybe they would think about things then! I would love to hide a video camera just to tape people's reactions.
  9. I had an idea about an item for a cache and wanted to get some input on how you all would feel about this. On the cache page, I would put that I left a "$100 bill" in the cache and that I would replace it if someone took it and would do this as many times as I needed to. The catch would be, there would be a BILL in the cache for a $100 fee for placing the cache! Of course, I would not expect to be paid and I would not expect anyone to take the bill, but I bet people would really be looking for that cache! I'm not trying to make people mad. I'm just trying to add some humor to the game. How would you feel after finding the bill?
  10. I have no idea on numbers, all I can tell you is experience. I was using my Garmin 12 (not WASS enabled) and another guy was using his Magellan Meridian (WASS enabled) looking for a cache. I was standing about 5' away from the cache and it said I was on. His GPS was leading him about 40 to 50 feet south of the cache. There is absolutely NO tree cover and it was a clear day and we were both using the same exact coordinates we downloaded from the site.
  11. I've got a Garmin 12 I might be looking to upgrade. I would prefer to find another unit before selling mine, but could sell it now for the right price. The unit is about 1 1/2 years old and has the updated software. I also have the PC connector cable for it. Unit is in GREAT shape with only one small scratch to the case and none to the screen. Excellent beginning GPS!
  12. Oh my golly! I think that is exactly what I'm looking for! That works awesome so far. I'll have to send that guy an email and thank him for that. That is what i've been looking for. Thanks Atilla!
  13. Hey all, I'm new to geocaching, but I've been using my GPS for about 2 years now. I'm an extremely avid outdoorsman who uses my GPS for plotting points I need to return to later or find in the dark. I've been thinking for about the past year on what I would want in a GPS software. I currently use the Garmin 12 which just about fits my needs exactly. I don't utilize maps in the field. I normally just take a waypoint at the truck (so I can find my way back if lost) and then either find saved points or find areas to save. I would like to have a software that allows me to plot all the points I take on a topo or satellite photo of the place I am hunting. This would be so I can chart animal movements, feeding, bedding and drinking areas to attempt to find patterns in their lifestyles. I have tried UglyBass Utilities and I cannot get the dang thing figured out. It is not as easy as the directions say it is. As far as getting the topo or photos of the area, I usually get them off the internet so I won't need software that already has that installed. Am I just dreaming or is there something that will satisfy my needs?
