  1. Seems you've heared too much about the Swiss banking secrecy. Nahh... The Swiss laws are in good condition (not too different from the US, just a bit more democratic ) and this site is flawless by honest people. As far as I remember it is pretty old, and on the first hand, it created nice statistics and maps for Switzerland. If I remember right there was kind of agreement to do so - but I don't know details. Please realise, that the data does NOT contain the cache descriptions (-> don't compare with pqs), and currently the data isn't updated (since Jan 18th). I don't know any further details, but I know that there are honest people behind it. I doubt if they read this forum. So just relax, enjoy the game and what we have, and don't mistrust the world outside US. There are beautiful geocaches waiting for you in the most beautiful part of the world All the best from someone living there.
  2. Thanks for the cold shower. Going further, to really stop the daydreaming, some words on the "why" and future plans would be more helpful to me. Even if it's just about a few clicks, it'd make it less tiresome over the months and years.
  3. Back to the original topic "email or web-download", I think that FTP is still a very well established way for downloads like this. One could leave all things as they are, and additionally provide an ftp service (and include the ftp download link in the email).
  4. Thanks for bringing back the attributes in the PQs! The GPX option we now have in our user profiles solves it in an very elegant and comfortable way. Well done.
  5. To me, the proper solution is, to transform any timedates from/to the individual time zone of each user when entered/displayed. Just like it is handled with the posting timedates in this forum. I suggested this already a while a go here.
  6. Sorry to be cumbersome here, but I'd would really appreciate an information about the time-schedule when we'll have the attributes back. As a general idea, I'd suggest to implement changes like this as an option that every user can select in his personal settings. E.g. if we could choose the PQ-version in our profiles, this would provide a much smoother possibility to everyone when introducing or testing anything new ...and the additional efforts were small compared to a full beta-testing, or the current irritations and roll-back alternative. Best wishes Rhintl
  7. The attributes in the PQs will be very useful to me, and I am really looking forward to it So please let me know when the attributes will be back in the PQs.
  8. When opening a PQ for editing, it appears that any "attributes to exclude" are not loaded into the edit form properly, and so get lost (if not restored by hand during every edit). Found this for IE and Chrome, it's only the "attributes to exclude", the "attributes to include" work fine.

    Time Zones

When we Europeans enter a log early in the morning, the suggested date will be the day before, because we are 9h ahead of the server in Seattle. Of course all dates (+times!) on the server side should be stored with the same reference, especially to get them sorted properly. On the other hand, it looked pretty odd to me when I entered my birthday-log with the wrong date... I think the proper solution is already demonstrated in the forums: posts are stored (and sorted) with a unique datetime reference (e.g.UTC) and just when displayed (or edited) converted to (from) the users time zone. Consequently, I also suggest to allow editing of the complete date+time not only the date. It doesn't make sense to me to combine a user-defined date with the local time of the server. Forgive me, if this has already been discussed before Best wishes frohttp://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?act=post&do=edit_post&f=8&t=230771&p=4053195&st=m 9°E to 122°W
  10. Each of these can be done with GE and GPX files - especially the last one. It doesn't matter to them. They don't want to adapt, they just want it the way it was so they don't have to think...and no matter what we say, they don't want to listen. Maybe I have a understanding problem: You mean I could include my personal gpx files into the Groundspeak Googlemap as I get it from here http://www.geocaching.com/map/ You say I can read out GPS coordinates, height, and have 3d-views there? Did I overlook something there??
  11. What I could do in Google-Earth and NOT in Google-Maps any more: 1) On a GE map I can add my additional data, e.g. own tracks, and diverse self-created waypoints e.g. camping sites, etc. 2) GE tells mit the GPS position and height of the cursor position and of waypoints. GM don't. 3) Handling of Google Earth allows much more comfortable and direct mouse control, and last not least a 3D-view with terrain height. 4) Google-Earth can be run offline with saved waypoints and cached map-data. Google maps not at all. I strongly miss these functionalities.
  12. Works here, too Thanks for letting us know this workaround - really straight forward
  13. It doesn't help here, either. To me it seems to be a different issue with this new GE update. I found another topic thread running on this topic. Go to the other thread and continue there
  14. I tested the latest release of Google Earth 5.0.11337.1968 (beta). It appears that the geocaching .kml doesn't work properly with it, i.e. the icons show up as pins, not as the cache symbols.
  15. Fully agree with that. However, often it is not very easy and comfortable to me to filter out these caches: the pocket queries do not contain the cache attributes, and once in the field I rely on this information I miss attributes like: <doable without at-home preparation>, <placed in a recreative area>, <placed away from traffic and technical dangers> An obligatory indication of the required time, distance to walk, height-meters. I would also recommend to discard the counter of found caches. Currently, this is displayed as most prominent figure, and thus appears to be rather significant. In reality it is only 1 of 1000 measures, and it is not the one that conveys decent, generic geocaching. Wishing everyone happy caching! Best wishes from Switzerland

    Cache Attributes

Are there any news about the attributes getting included in the pocket-queries? I see this thread already quite old... But this issue is still open, is it? Especially on holidays = especially when geocaching (!), I am often away from the internet, and my information then only relies on what I received with the pocket queries. For a premium feature, it is not satisfying to miss the attributes, and other things like spoiler pics! Regards from Switzerland
