  1. Now that I have the car kit for my Garmin eTrex Vista C, I've been leaving it in the car over night. Since it has a vehicle power adapter, I can leave it on and not worry about the batteries. I was wondering if it's possible to damage the screen by doing this. The backlight stays on all night. Once I pull into the garage it loses signal, so there is a bright red error box in the center of screen. Can anyone say if this could cause a problem? I've burned in computer monitors before and I'd hate to ruin this GPSr.
  2. Under the setup of my eTrex Vista C, there is an option for Battery Type: Alkaline or NiMH. The manual just says to choose the correct one, but doesn't say what this controls. Will the unit actually recharge NiMH batteries when plugged into external power? Or does it just use them in a different manner (ie. higher/lower impedance) to take advantage of different qualities? If it actually recharges them, I could have saved the money I spent on this 15 minute charger to go along with the new NiMH batteries I bought. Oh well. Thanks!
  3. You can replace the MapSource maps with the preloaded Marine POI database that came with the unit. It's available at the upper right on the VistaC firmware download page: http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=579 What will that do to the "Recreational Routable Highway Base Map, Americas v2 2.00"? When I turned on my GPS the first time, that's all I noticed. Is it still there? Did the City Select map just layer over top of it? Thanks for the reply!
  4. Now your definition makes sense and is certainly more self explanatory, but I see a lot of threads on this board referring to the "Bee Dance" in both manners. From this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...109038&hl=dance That's why I'm confused.
  5. Hey... Thanks much for the quick response! That sequence looks like it got me about 90% of the way. It looks like it did remove all configurations and stored data. It just didn't remove the MapSource City Select maps. I assume I can strip off those maps and just leave the factory Base Maps?
  6. I keep seeing references to performing the "Bee Dance" in order to properly calibrate the magnetic compass in GPSr units. Are there instructions for this manuever somewhere? Search doesn't pull up any. Is there more to it than the simple 720deg turn called for in the manual for my VistaC? My compass seems to be working fine but if I'm missing some important step here, I want to know.
  7. Is there a key sequence, reset pinhole, or option via USB to reset my eTrex Vista C completely back to the state it was in when it came out of the box? No maps, no tracks, no waypoints, no settings, no satellite, no nothing. Much like reinstalling a PC every so often, I like knowing that I can always get back to a fresh baseline if I want to start over. Thanks!
  8. I just bought the case that Amazon.com listed as a recommended accessory when I bought the VistaC. It's the generic Garmin eTrex case. I know what you mean about the window being not quite wide enough. The sides of the case also come up too high and interfere with the Power and Find buttons. It's a good looking case. Too bad it doesn't fit better. EDIT: First post ever.
