  3. Hey Yuma Folks the Coasters have got something going, sounds sort of ok. CHECK THE LINK BELOW http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=224344
  4. Hi used a 315 back in 01........worked ok Perhaps this will help http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=8710
  5. Hi Coasters A News Up-date From The Yuma Area. BY LANCE CPL. AUSTIN HAZARD, DESERT WARRIOR All annual range permits for public areas on the Barry M. Goldwater Range will expire June 30. New permits can be obtained at the pass and registration building, located next to the main gate, beginning July 1. Applicants will need a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration, while those planning to ride a horse on the range only need photo ID. Range permits obtained after June 30 are valid until June 30, 2010. About 8,000 range permits have been issued since July 1, 2008. Range personnel urge people to adhere to range guidelines. “Just use common sense and follow the rules,” said Paul Chapman, station range permit clerk. “There is 840 square miles of nothing but wasteland out there. It can be a very dangerous place.” On March 3, a Yuma resident fell down a mine shaft on the range. Patrick Kautzman, a 61-year-old retired mechanical contractor, fell onto a wooden beam in a 70-foot-deep mine shaft and was fined $75 for trespassing after being rescued. People found on the range without a valid permit will be escorted off and may be fined and restricted from receiving a permit in the future. For more information, call 269-7150. There are a few worth while caches on the range, as well as a lot of nature to be seen and experinced........even some historical stuff for those interested........ Stay Well, Cache-on, "GIDEON-X"
  6. I have a couple of this type of cache, one gives the information needed to project a coarse to the final cache, the other is a small cache (log book, pencil, small trade goods) The caps when new are tapped on to the post, the caps have 3-4 ridges on the inside which grip the post as the cap is installed, Some of these will twist off (a strong wrist / arm) others will take a bit of tapping! Once off, I grind / sand the ridges down smooth with the I.D. of the cap.......good to go, also I've bonded bolts to the insiide of the caps to attach containers NOTE: I stuff a wad of newspaper down the post / pipe, before installing the cache / Cap........if the adhesive fails (which I've had happen) you don't lose the container
  7. Ha. I wonder if they'll let you sign the log if you show up at the sheriff's office? Or maybe that jerk just thought he'd be funny? My Thoughts........A Post Refering To Any Law Inforcement Officer, Of Any Type / Level As A "Jerk". Does Nothing To Help The Cause Of Caching ...............
  8. Used one of these 9 nine years ago (My first GPSr).......set it to mag north, don't remmber much more, GOOGLE is your firend on this one.........I did get the plans to make a cable for the 315 to download caches off Google...........
  9. "Google",..... for manual, how to make a cable etc. etc.. Used one 9 years back, worked ok fine......
  10. Just brought a Nuvi 255W (White-Box) Refurb, it had the 2009 maps installed, the with in 60day of use update, as well as a one year warranty......so far everthing is ok fine, have made a couple of 2000 mile plus runs using the unit, and yes I would buy another Refurb unit!
  11. Well back in the day (04). Jim and myself where sitting in one of our AM haunts (Java Oasis) having our morning brew, and I was on my laptop checking out local caches (At this point in time they where few and far between in the Yuma area) Found one a hundred miles away, (a cherry) plus it had a Geo-Coin (This was also the starting of the coin thing) So after we finished our coffee and bull session, we took off for the mountains to capture this cache! I was familiar with the area (this always helps).......we captured the cache with no problems, did hike / bushwack about .2 of a mile from the pavement (drove a 2x2) instead of the (4x4).....but then what's .2 of a mile on a nice day?...........April 30 2004, 200 miles round trip, a FTF, A Geo-Coin, ...check out the gallery pic's .....and some of the log's (#1 and #2) GCJA5W
  12. Make my own.......Print-Shop Does it all Print-Shop
  13. Exactly what he said...........!
  14. Hi All, Just a Bump to get "Yuma" into the eyes of the "Coasters"........B.B. is still pondering his project.........a few new caches in the Imperial Valley, as well as the Yuma area, (Berry Goldwater Range) I'm sure none of these will spoil before they are captured,.......but then some are what I consider "GEO-TRASH" (pill-bottles, scrap, of paper log, no writing stick).........Oh well they will die a sure death in the desert heat! Stay Well, Keep Yuma On Your Minds..........we are just here!
  15. Yeah, you're right that is a nice brochure. How do we get them?? I hesitate to use all that expensive color ink on my home printer for each one. Can you order like 10 or 20 of them preprinted? What I did (do) is I printed one sheet of the Geo-U cards (not the brochure)....took it up to staples and had them run me off a batch........dadgum site cheaper than I can do it (65# card Stock and the Ink)...........
  16. Thanks. That was like what I was looking for! Here the Yuma, Arizona (Mexican Boarder)I'm approached Daily, (some days 3-4 times a day) by Boarder Patrol Officers (Doing Their Job)...........I have made a bunch of the aboved mentioned cards (Geo-caching-U) to hand out.........they seem to work ok and are recived with out a problem........As for a "Official Caching Card" Naaa, not really needed.....Note: as of June first, one will need a Pass Port to cross the line,(Mexican Boarder coming back into the U.S.) no more Birth certifacate and picture ID
  17. "Is it time to change it?"----------- NO!
  18. Really like this one......all for using the GPSr to it's max. "Projection" rules
  19. Yes. Cachemate is one way. One comment though, the Z22 is for all practical purposes unreadable outside in the sun light. Cloudy days it is somewhat usable. Jim Concur with the last poster, I have a z22 it works ok fine with cachemate and even Vista, but good luck seeing it in the bright sunlight..........I also use a older m500 (non-color) works ok fine in the sunlight, picked up a couple of them on eBay for around $25.00 each.......and they are tough little buggers dropped one several times and it just keeps on going.....
  20. Hi, it's easy after a few trys, hold your compass level, find north, set the bezel to "0" at north, then set the bearing # on the bezel to the arrow or what ever mark is onthe base plate, then go for it http://www.ussartf.org/compass_basics.htm P.S. Myself I would forget about true north and the declanation thing and use mag. north for what you are doing
  21. Hi, Here in Yuma, AZ. I have several caches in a city park. I went to the city, dept of parks and rec. talked it over / explaned the sport. was given permission no problem. (using reasonable guided lines) no digging, obsessive rock / dead and down wood movement etc. .........
