  1. Congratulations to The Crinklys on reaching the magic 100, The third cornish team to do so. Well done from Mike, Mandy, Kris, Mel and Matt
  2. Just to add to this thread another danger due to the recent fine dry weather is Gorse and Heathland fires started sometime inadvertently by people with cigarettes or even discarded glass bottles and sometimes by mindless idiots playing with matches. These fires can spread with alarming speed if a accompanied by a strong breeze. We did a cache at the weekend at Upton Heath near Poole, Dorset where a fire the previous evening had only just missed the cache site by a 100 yards or so. On returning to Cornwall and doing a cache check on our Hermits Hideaway cache on Monday we discovered that a gorse fire over the weekend had totally destroyed the cache. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to follow the Cache in/Trash out theme and if you see any discarded glass, remove it and take it to a bottle bank. Cheers Mike
  3. Hi Guys I did the "London Rainbow" series of caches yesterday afternoon on a day trip to London. Had an enjoyable afternoon finding numbers 1-7 but it was marred by the final cache being found trashed, I managed to salvage the log book and one of Tim & June's bears. I have e-mailed McDehack to let him know and hopefully he will re-instate it as soon as possible. This is such a shame as it really is a good set of caches as I am sure anyone who has completed it will agree. Anyway just thought I would let you all know so as to save anyone else a wasted journey untill hopefully it is replaced. Cheers Mike
  4. Congratulations on your 100 Mike and the crew
  5. The picture always looked grotty on the first view for some reason. We normally click to view it then when its displayed click the refresh button and it comes up okay. Can anyone out there give a reason why it does this???? Mike
  6. Well done Paul and Michael on your 100th. Onwards to the second century now!!!!!! Mike and the crew
  7. We had this problem last summer as Mandy had badly torn ligament damage to her ankle, we sussed out three in Cornwall which I pushed her to. The three are:- GC7D6D Right of Lands End - towards Sennen GC52CD Lauri's a treasure GC850D Cober's Edge (Cornwall) I hope these are of some use if they visit our area. I also like the logo posted by Naefearjustbeer, this would be the ideal way of telling if its wheelchair friendly before making a wasted journey. Cheers Mike
  8. As Pid said we are going to set one of these up but will be for next winter. We got our idea from a geocacher in the states called "Criminal", His website is:- http://fp1.centurytel.net/Criminal_Page/night_caches.htm Will be interested to see how The Merman's cache gets on. Mike
  9. Well done Gary and Jane on the 100 finds. We also agree with Tim and Junes comments about your own caches, some of the best that we have done in the Dorset area. Mike and the crew
  10. I have read of this being done in America on one of their forums. The particular cache was harder in winter due to Snow and Ice (I think), so they altered the difficulties according to the season. Mike
  11. We had a meet down here in Cornwall just before Xmas organised by Nawtcher and Crazy Eddie. They sorted out ten virtual locations with questions to answer to give the co-ordinates for a final cache box which also then had the co-ordinates to a nearby Pub. To solve the problem of everyone following each other, we were all sent to a different location for our first clue but after that one we could the rest in any order we liked. This worked well as we only saw two other teams (Out of eight)before we all met up at the pub. Hope this may help Mike
  12. Just checked............... Nope no bears in this part of Cornwall.
  13. Just a quick note to add our thanks to Paul and Michael for a wonderful day. Mike and Mandy
  14. Right not wanting to break with tradition, Here's my list Best Cache. "West Penwith 'Circle' - plus (Cornwall)" by The Crinklys. A really great multi-cache. Hardest to find. "The Cornish Pasty Mine Trilogy" by Moorlander. a three part multi with the final box hidden under a boulder, and boy! there is a lot of boulders. This is the only cache that we have had to return to on another day. Most Interesting. "Engine's Graveyard" by Carwash. This being railway orientated really appealed to me being a rail enthusiast. Finding the cache took maybe twenty minutes, spent another hour just exploring the place. Easiest Cache. "Burrator Be Damned" by Plymplodder. A virtual were we didn't have to get out of the car. Least enjoyed cache. "Airfield puzzle" by GPSwalker. Now I hold nothing against this cache and it is a good one, but the day we did it was the wettest that I think we have geocached in. I mucked up a co-ordinate and we spent half-hour searching a small copse in driving rain only to find after checking the co-ordinates that the final location was over half a mile away. Scariest cache. Possibly I think "Melbury Beacon (Dorset)" by Gary and Jane. On a normal day this wouldnt be at all scary but we chose a day with thick mist and also did it just as twighlight set in. Hence visibility was about 10 yards and getting darker by the minute. But we enjoyed it!!!(Dan and Pid would have been in their element). Most Prickly. "Trescore and then" by naffita. Cornish gorse at its worst. Most frustrating. "the travel cd" by leprechaun7. The co-ordinates sent me to a field near Crediton in Devon, I spent an hour searching for a right of way for the last 400 feet, with no joy. It appeared to be in the middle of a farmers field full of crops. I gave up and logged a no find that evening with a request for the co-ordinates to be re-checked. It turned out that the Longitude should have been a Eaterly but was logged as a Westerly. Hence it was actually in BELGUIM. We have enjoyed our first 100 caches and it has taken us to many places we would otherwise not have visited, It has also enabled us to get to know and meet some very nice people. Many thanks to all the people who have placed the caches to allow us to reach this milestone, and thankyou for all your kind congratulations both on this forum and sent by e-mail direct to us. Looking forward to meeting some of you on Sunday. Cheers Mike & the rest of the Crew
  15. Just wondered whether we have had a first down here in Cornwall or not. We had a new cache put out by "Jeb & co" called "Carn Grey" on Saturday, and its first two visitors both logged their 100th find. Both ourselves and "Nawtcher" both logged up our 100th finds. Has this occured anywhere else before???????? Mike
  16. Hi I would say yes they are "Multi-Caches". At present when you report a new cache there is no other option to choose for a multiple location or box cache. A "Traditional" I would regard as exactly what it says, A set of co-ordinates leading to a single cache. Exactly the same would apply to a "Virtual". I have a set of three caches in Cornwall all linked together, "Saints Way North" and "Saints Way South" are both 5 Location Multi's starting from a common box with co-ordinates to the next location inside, The next three locations are virtuals were you solve clues to make up the co-ordinates for your next location and the final box. However to make it more interesting I have a third cache "The Molinnis Multi-Multi cache" which is also a three part multi, for this the final box's co-ordinate are obtained from clues at all the locations along all three caches. The people who have completed them all have all said that they thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and concept, and have got three more logged finds out of it. Further down in Cornwall is "Nawtchers Cornwall" which is 4 seperate traditional caches in which each box has a set of numbers which all put together give you the co-ordinates for a fifth traditional cache. So one Multi has given you five finds. Untill the powers above decide to make some more subdivisions of the term Multi-cache ie:- Multi-Virtual, Multi-Traditional, Multi-mixed, Multi-Multi, etc then there really is nothing else you can call them. even if they did go down this road no doubt someone somewhere would devise something else which wouldnt quite fit. But then again thats the beauty of this sport, if every cache was the same people would soon get bored. Cheers Mike
  17. Hello, I have been looking at the profile of the person who has Team KKF2A's TB, He has recently set up a cache on his own property. Why dont you post a note on his cache page asking the next person who visits this cache to call and remind him of your bug. Worth a try, Cache and Waypoint is :-Froggies Pondside Hideout" by Tim & Adeline (GCA3C6) Hope you are lucky Mike
  18. Mandy and I will be coming up from Cornwall for your Christmas social. E-mail on its way to you Paul, asking to be included in the Secret Santa. Looking forward to meeting you all. Happy New Year. Mike.
  19. Congratulations Team Slytherin. Wow, 400 !!! Makes our total of 85 sink into insignificance. Mike and the crew
  20. Why don't the Christmas card manufacturers stop doing snow scenes and show Christmas day scenes as they really are, Wet and Windy. Merry Christmas to all from A Damp and Overcast Cornwall. Mike, Mandy, Krissy, Mel and Matt
  21. Would you mind two or three Geocachers from Cornwall joining in your meet. we had a recent Xmas meet ourselves down here and its nice to be able to put faces to the names we see on the caches we do. Mike
  22. We have quite often re-visited caches down here in Cornwall to drop off Travel Bugs we have picked up from further up country. We always log them as a note not a find. Mike
