  1. Done! I'm sorry but everything seems faster! Even scrolling on the map!! Well happy and looking forward to finding other improvements. Anyone know how to convert tracklog to magellan routes????
  2. They do this thing of tacking the firmware download after the 5...so after you do the 2.03 update (recommended), it should say 5.203 or something like that. It would take a firmware hack to reconfigure the routing memory; that's a pretty tall task. One workaround is to build two sub-routes. Do the first 30 legs then activate the second route. Cheers Embra. Your right about the FW version numbers. Looks like I need to upgrade then. Ill try the sub routes idea then. Thanks!!
  3. I have had an explorist 600 for some time and have not checked the FW version since I got it. On the Magellan web site it say version 2.03 is the latest but in the unit's 'about' section it mentions Rev 5.161 with Europe background map version 1.06. Also I have heared that you can get better batteries for the unit. Where can I get them please? And finally the 50 waypoint limit on uploaded routes is really a problem for me as I do 60 mile mountain bike rides. Has any one found a hack for this? Thanks, Scott.
  4. OK Old Sailor.. I got the driver from the site (thanks for that) which is a .info file and .sys file. Any idea how I install them please? Ta, Scott.
  5. Thanks guys. One problem. My Install disk v1.09 part # 500181 is jiggered. Big scratch on it..... I have contacted Magellan support for a new one but in the mean time do you guys know where I can get the .iso for this CD or the USB serial driver? Thanks, Scott.
  6. Cheers. Ill try that. Is that the prolific USB to serial driver???? What NMEA mode do I choose on the explorist? There are three: V1.5 APA V1.5 XTE V2.1 GSA Thanks for any help! Scott.
  7. Hi. Do I need to buy a USB to serial convertor to use my Explorist 600 with Memory Map in NMEA mode?? If so can anyone recommend a model please? If not how do I get Memory Map working with the Explorist please? Thanks, Scott.
  8. Think I just figured it. Is it because I had more than 50 waypoints in the route? Can someone confirm that please? Thanks.
  9. Hi Folks. Forgive my newbie ignorance but how do I get MMO Memory Map tracks onto my Explorist 600? The USB link works fine and I can pull up the various directories on my Magellan SD card without a problem. I also am running Topo map and have no issues uplaoding maps to my explorist. I am just not sure how and if I need to convert the formats. Also is there a maximum number of waypoints for any one route? Cheers. Scott.
  10. Let me come back to you tomorrow. I dont have the unit at work. Thanks for that. Cheers.
  11. Hi Skeeter. I guessed it couldn't!! Let me test it one more time tonight to make sure that I am not going mad... which is a possibility. I am assuming that if I leave the compass on then the arrow on the mapping screen will be driven by the electronic compass rather than the gps?? I would hope so.. Otherwise I may find myself riding in ever decreasing concentric circles at a fork in the trail...... :-) Do I need the get above assumption confirmed by Magellan or is the answer well known? Cheers. A Very hepful forum so far!!
  12. I am sure this is a common question so sorry for asking it again. I just got an Explorist 600 and am suprised at how far behind it can show my position when doing around 15mph on my mountain bike. Stationary the unit will be very accurate with a good lock in open country but it can up to 30m-50m behind me whilst moving... Is that normal? Can I improve it somehow? Will the size of the Topo map I am using affect this (currently only 10 Meg). Thanks, Scott.
  13. Just bought a Magellan Explorist 600. Even when I turn off the electronic compass it knows it orientation (compass bearing) when stationary. I can sit in my back garden and rotate it slowly about a stationary axis on a table and the direction arrow rotates on the mapping screen as the unit turns! I am confused as to how (technically) the GPS unit can sense the direction it is facing with the electronic compass turned off just using the GPS when rotated around a staionary axis which is centered on the unit. I thought a GPS with the compass off had to be moving to sense direction? If it can do otherwise I can turn off the compass permanantly and I have been told save lots of battery life as I dont use the compass often. My basic understanding of how GPS works is basically one of triangulation which will pin point the devices (recieving arials) location but not orientation in terms of compass bearing. To sense orienation the unit would therefore have to have some kind of directional ariel where it could tell the direction of each satallite it was recieving from. I don't think that is the case..... What am I getting wrong?? Your help greatly appreciated.
