  1. The original geonickel website with instructions on how to create geonickels can be found at http://www.geonickel.com , there is nothing to buy there, just instructions on how to create a simple cheap Personal item.
  2. So I assume they are buried to keep them from getting stolen or disturbed? I have more precise directions from the data sheets so if I dig a small hole a foot down I should find it says a disk but I figure it is a rod or something. These benchmarks have not been recorded since 1973 it would be cool to find them. I use a metal detector and have a small camp shovel as well as brushes, rags, other tools and water in my pack to clean up the unreadable ones. Here is what a Division of Highways benchmark looks like http://img.geocaching.com/benchmark/lg/db9...3d00f5c1e9c.jpg I actually recorded the benchmark with UGS since it was so long since it was recorded the Division of Highways was a reference mark this is the benchmark listing on the geocaching site http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=EW7412 I just looked at the official log on the UGS site CADH is the division of highways it is the predecessor to Caltrans. BBT
  3. I found EW4893 and at the same cords are EW4892 trying to figure it out 18 inches below ground? what is CONSTRUCTION STATION P.O.T. would this be under a cast iron lid or just buried under the dirt? This area was closed after the 1994 earthquake the Gavin Canyon bridge collapsed just down the street from here so when they were out here looking for the benchmarks these were missed not recorded since 1973. what is CAHD in the designation 21 F 52 CAHD
  4. Nextel just came out with a new hybrid phone that seems cool I hope the geo nav will work with it because it is one cool phone it uses the sprint network for phone voice/web and the nextel network for direct connect, it is "the blend ic402 powersource" and "the buzz ic502 powersource" cool stuff.
  5. I came across this article and thought it would be of interest. I hope this is the correct forum to place this. http://www.expeditersonline.com/artman/pub...inter_2206.html
  6. Why do I seem to be seeing more trash in the caches then in the area around the caches? I have seen more junk/ trash in caches lately. makes you want to cache in /trash out the cache contents don't people do maintenance on their caches?
  7. The log system went down. till I come up with a new log you can just Email me with the geonickel number and the cache you retrieved it from and left it in. Thanks! Big Bad Trucker
  8. I placed a cache which I thought would be fun not intending it to remain a theme but it has turned out that way... See Dar Bridge my cache has a redenck/hillbilly theme to it and the cachers are either trading like items or tb's most just TNLFHOSL oh that is took nothing laugh fool head off sign log. the cache is filled with hillbilly gags as well as other redneck/hillbilly items and is turning out to be quite a fun cache...
  9. Just check out my site it has information on how to create wooden GeoNickels. GeoNickel website
  10. With the fires there are hundreds if not thousands of caches that have been damaged or destroyed. Be aware that forest land tends to be closed to all access after a fire. if the area has burned you may want to check ahead before you drive a distance so you do not show up and the area is closed to all traffic including hiking. also some county and state parks also will be closed to hiking so just tread carefully in the burn areas. There was a forest area that has caches that burned and the area was closed close to a year and then was open to hiking only. It would be a shame to get arrested or fined checking on a cache in an area that has been closed.

  13. I got my wooden nickels (geonickels) from the old wooden nickel co. I think it would cost more to do transfers and they would not last. You send your artwork to the old wooden nickel co. and they make them to order on a printing press using laser cut stencels with your artwork. check out my site www.geonickel.com and I have a step by step on how I created GeoNickels. If you get permission to use the logo they have my artwork. I am going to go soak one now to see what happens and will let you know.

Before anyone says anything, I made my Geo-token before I found out that a round Geocaching logo was not allowed. Next batch will be revised. [This message was edited by myarch on July 17, 2003 at 09:40 AM.] Why is a round one not allowed? I have seen several round ones while looking thru these message boards. And have seen round ones on stuff that is sold. So why not???? Ain't no nugget to big to dig! Here is an example of the logo it is printed on a round wooden nickel but the logo is not altered or rounded and Groundspeak gave me the ok to use the logo in this manner. This is the back of the geonickel.

  19. I have a TB I want to place, but it seems alot of TB are so neat that people are keeping them or there may be a value and they keep them. Is it worth placing a TB? If someone has no plans to continue geocaching or passing on a TB they should just leave it for someone who wants to pass it on. I know some people will hold onto them for a special placement if they ever get around to it... oh well I still enjoy geocaching and will comtinue..
