  1. As per garmin NT stands for "New Technology" and it only works in units that support the NT versions.
  2. Your correct acording to garmin, But I got it to auto route doing the things I mentioned, But once Garmin told me it may not be that accurate (not as I saw, seemed fine) So after talking with garmin rep. I decided to go to city navigator v8 NT for no hassels in performance.
  3. Had the Garmin GPSMAP 60cs, was a great unit, Now have the 60CSX, better yet, Nice !!!!!
  4. Well I called Garmin directly, They told me metroguide doesnt really work with auto routing, but yet it does, kind of, ha ha?????? I can fuss with it by selecting "cities" in my Garmin 60CSX menu and then find the city, hit go to on map, then while the pointer is there on the map you go to the addresses page and type in a street address and it will find the address no problem and door to door directions from where you currently are. Or zoom way out and move the pointer to a location and hit go to, and you get door to door directions, But If you try and get door to door directions by selecting "addresses" in the menu and type in an address it wont work. So I decided, what the heck, I ordered the City Navigator NT version 8 software. Garmin advises that this is the best version for the 60CSX as it can take advatage of the NT (New Technology) software. I am told that with the NT version you can load the entire USA and parts of Canada (back country) on a 1 gig micro sd card. With more detail than the version 4 metroguide software I had. Note to anyone reading this, the NT version will only work in units that can accept this new version The 60csx is one of the units that it will work in. So I orderd it when I get it we will see, I hated to spend more money again on GPS stuff. But what can you do, the Technology changes often. The biggest reason I went for the new software was garmin told me that even though I can get the metroguide software to give door to door directions, they may not be the best or as acurates as they could be. and its not supported by garmin for auto routing becasue it was not intended to do so. PS: I did forget to ask if I can also add my Topo Software with this NT software installed, I am guessing yes because the 60csx will take regular or NT versions. Hope this helps anyone else with this question.
  5. Hello, Thanks for your reply. I am not sure I understand what you mean about indexing.? I have used this software before, and I can look up all local directions in the unit door to door , but for out of stae and area its not working? Thanks for your help Ken
  6. Hi all, As you have read in my other post I bought the Garmin 60CSX, and I love it. Nice improvments over the 60CS. I added the 1 gig Micro SD card and added my metroguide maps and topo maps. I have all of the eastern seaboard and then some on one card awesome. My question is how do I look up addresses? Being in NJ, lets say I want to go see a friend I know in Maine? I select find by address. It wont find the adddress, it actually wont find anything out of NJ? or near by me?I checked under the map area and all the maps are installed including the Maine area. But I cant seem to get door to door directions? Unless I zoom way out, move the pointer to where I want to go and then select go to, then it works. But not under address look up? can anyone help me out on this? Thanks Ken
  7. Had Garmin 25 XL (I think that was model), Garmin Rino 120, Now have Garmin GPSMAP 60CS, and just ordered the 60CSX. also have a lowrance 3500C on the boat.
  8. Go the extra money, I love the electric compass Works well. I had the 60CS and loved it., and just ordered the 60CSX On amazon.com for around $315.00 ,after mail in rebate and getting an amazon credit card $30.00 buck credit.
  9. I caved in folks I ordered a new Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX. I ordered if from amazon.com. If you sign up for their credit card they give you an $30.00 credit on your credit card bill when it comes in, and with the $50.00 mail in rebate brings it down to about $315.00, Best price I could find. Thanks for all the help.
  10. I think I am most likely going to go for it. Selling my garmin Rino now on ebay, than after getting the csx , maybe sell the 60cs. But thanks for all the input everyone. ken
  11. Another question, I read some where that the 60CSX can also download directly from geocaching.com with out the files being coverted, by use of another program? just a click and you have them? Not sure quite what you mean here. For info: the latest version of MapSource will load gc.com generated *.gpx files directly. It's then just a matter of sending them to the GPSr. Perhaps this is what you read. I think your right, this is what I read, so you need mapsource and then a way to send it to gpsr, OK thanks
  12. Your description is a bit confusing. You are saying that you think it can download directly using another program, which means that you are not downloading directly. I would say that it takes more than one click unless you're running a macro. In my case, I use GSAK. One click tells it to download any Pocket Queries from my email acct and import them into its database. A second click choose the "local, not found" filter that I use for my local 'caches that I haven't found. A third and final click exports the filtered list into my 60CSx. FWIW, during that same session, I export a GPX file of that filtered list for viewing in Mapsource, and a .PDB file that will Hotsync to Cachemate on my Palm. GeoBC Sorry for confusion, I thought I read somewhere that I could download the Geocache locations right from the web page without the use of GSAK(in the 60csx) which I use as well. But I cant find where I read this, and judging from the responses I am reading I think I am wrong on this. Thanks
  13. hi, how did you get it so cheap? I see it at your place for 369.00? witha a 50.00 rebate? Ahh ok, 319

  15. All interesting information, especially the fact that garmin may be getting ready for a new release in December. Decisions decisions, Not sure what to do still. I do love hearing about the increased signal strength, because that is a huge weakness of the 60cs. And I sware I heard or read something about downloading the geocaching files directly to the unit and they work, no other programs needed, but I have not confimed this. Dont remember where I saw it. Well everyone keep the information coming, I really appreciate it. Thanks for all the input so far. Ken

  17. I was wondering if anyone is using the new garmin GPS60CSX? I have the Garmin GPSMAP 60CS and it works great. But I hear the new model works great in bad signal areas? Locks on even inside your home and in heavily wooded areas. and its much quicker. Just wondering if Its worth trading up, considering my current unit is only about a year old, and not sure I want o spend another $400.00 on the new one. Unless its really worth it. I do loose signal often in deep wooded areas, and I do need to have the unit on the dash to get a good lock on signal when driving. Thnaks for any input. Ken
