Thank you for your responses. I am relieved that they were not all as negative as the first response.
I had tried contacting the CO by email and he never responded to me. The description had just said that if someone wanted to take over ownership of the cache to leave a note in the log section. So I did. I thought maybe he was ignoring his "found it" notices so later I also posted a "needs maintenance" log to see if that would encourage him to come check his logs. Still no reply. I went out there and repaired the cache myself--I actually do that a lot of times just because I want the next person to have fun. My kids are always so disappointed when they find a ruined cache which wasn't marked as "Needing Maintenance" in the logs. So we have begun to carry a repair kit with us so that the next person to find it will not be disappointed.
So I posted the message on this guy's cache that we did indeed repair it for him and asked again if he would like us to take ownership of it.
Still no reply.
Finally, upon the advice of the Reviewer, I marked it "Needs Archived" because it looked as though the owner had completely abandoned the cache. Almost immediately he deleted ALL my posts--including my found it post, and the post stating that I had repaired his cache. He then posted that the cache was ready to be re-activated and thanks to "whoever" repaired it for him. He still did not reply to me.
Then I read the description closely once more and he had added one line about how he was not going to let a premium cache owner take ownership of the cache. Could he not have just once emailed me or responded to my posts?
By the way, I have a good reason for making my one cache for premium members. It's not just to be a snob. It has something to do with where it's placed.
But these details are getting off topic, actually. I would just like the ability to hide that information on my profile.
I am also surprised that this happened because I was a free member for over two years, and it never occurred to me that premium caches were somehow unfair. I never gave them a second thought. I just enjoyed geocaching--there are plenty of free caches available and I didn't care that there were any I couldn't go to. I was really taken off guard by this whole thing.
Anyway, the main question at hand is, can we not make our premium caches private information?
Again, the topic is: Can we make this information viewable only to premium members, since they are the only ones who can look at it anyway?
Not: Should premium caches be allowed in the first place.
Not: You can't force anyone to give you their cache.
Not: Perhaps you aren't a good CO for some other reasons. (Considering that I did do the repair work and the guy never ever replied or talked to me, I'm not sure what other reason he would have, seeing as how he doesn't know me...)
