Thanks for the replies guys! I was hoping to spend no more than $200. I guess since they make you buy the mapping software its going to be difficult to stay within that budget.

I am looking for an affordable, handheld GPS unit that I can use for both hiking and for turn-by-turn driving directions when I'm in the car.

I am looking at purchasing my first GPS unit. I was wondering however, if I want to use it to give me turn by turn directions, do all units require you to purchase seperate software for that? Is there a free piece of software that will work? BTW, I am looking at picking up the eXplorist 400.
