  1. Listing ends tonight then I'll be looking to buy a ForeRunner 305. I don't suppose anyone has a used one yet so what are the best deals from a reputable source for a 305?
  2. Shhh... it's a secret Look at the "Buy It Now" price... I've shown the reserve above. I thought the Buy it Now price was fair given what's inlcuded.
  3. The reserve is $295. I went back through the recent 60CS sales (none of which had as much as I'm including), and I set the reserve lower than those previous sale prices. Most people offer to include some maps preloaded on the unit, while I am including the full $140 software registered to this 60CS, as well as the other accessories.
  4. I'll be listing the package on eBay tonight, as no one was interested in a trade (knew there wouldn't be much chance.) LINK to listing.
  5. I bought my 60CS a little less than a year ago. It has received very little use but I now would like to have a Forerunner 305. I primarily used the 60CS on vacations in the car and for logging distance of a couple of dozen walking and bicycling tracks. I recently purchased an Eclipse in dash Nav. for the car, and so now all I use the 60CS for is walking, so I'd prefer the smaller size of the Forerunner 305. While I love the 60CS, the Forerunner is more practical for the biking/jogging which is my primary use now that I have the fixed in car Nav. It has never been dropped, and I purchased the "Invisible Shield" screen cover immediately after buying the unit so the screen is like new. As I said I used it very little and it looks like new. There are no marks, scratches, rubs, blemishes of any kind; if one took the screen protector off, the unit would not be able to be distinguished from a brand new unit. I have all original packaging, manuals, cable, lanyard, software, etc. for the unit in addition to the following items that will be included: Garmin belt clip (included in original packaging) Garmin suction cup car mount with original packaging. Garmin 12V power adapter with original packaging Garmin 31.8mm bicycle bar mount adapter (uses cradle from above car mount) Pelican 1120 Waterproof case custom fit foam for 60CS, two extra batteries and belt clip. I also have the City Select V6 software with the most recent ( I believe) V7 update disc, but I do not know if that software is transferrable so I'm stating it isn't included, but I can discuss inclusion with interested parties if it is transferrable. EDIT: In answer to a question, I purchased the software new with the unit, and I have the unlock codes that Garmin provided, which I will include with the software. V7 update is on disc from Garmin as I purchased the V6 during the "free upgrade" period as V7 was coming out. Because of all the accessories included, I am looking for a Forerunner 305 in similar (read mint) condition +$50. I will be glad to provide photos, references, contact info, etc. to interested parties. I know this is a long shot but easier than dealing with fees, etc. from eBay. If there is no interest in a trade, I will be listing it on eBay, so I am not opposed to an outright sale. Sale price will depend on what all you want of the accessories so I've not listed a price. I'm located in Portage, MI and for reference my eBay feedback is HERE. As far as payment, I am somewhat flexible BUT, I absolutely do not accept Paypal. Please email me any questions as I am infrequently on the board.
  6. I'm using the Garmin mount and haven't had any trouble with it staying put. Regardless of the manufacturer you choose, I would clean off the windshield with some alcohol to remove any residue. I have a little piece of grey foam I put between the dash and the base of the cradle since without that the unit vibrates quite a bit. From the looks of the RAM mounts, they might be substantial enough to eliminate that problem, but the foam couples the unit to the dash so for now that's working for me.
  7. Instead of the usual center windshield mount I have my suction mount on the left right alongside the A pillar. That allows routing the power cord under the dash in my car so only a couple of inches of cord are visible. It also allows routing an external antenna cable in the pillar or down along the sill without it being visible either. I find the unit is actually closer to my position on the left, the pillar shields some glare and I found no difference in antenna reception. It also blocks a less important area as you look out, since you wouldn't typically look right down alongside the pillar but normally the center area is routinely scanned.
  8. Just bought a 60CS as my first GPSr. I'm using City Select 6 with a free V7 upgrade in the mail from Garmin. So far I love almost every aspect. A few minor nitpicks but really they are just that: 1. No SD slot. 56K is reasonable, but for long trips you have to be selective about which maps to load. 2. When used in a car the unit auto powers down, but doesn't auto power up when connected to an ignition dependent 12V source. 3. I'd like a manual stop or pause button like the Forerunner 201 has for use biking or hiking. 4. Software waypoint symbols don't transfer into GPSr when using Mapsource, just show up as a dot if the waypoint symbol selected isn't in the memory of the GPSr. Like I said these are minor and overall I believe this is the best currently available all around unit. I'll probably get a Forerunner or Foretrex for running and kayaking though just for the size.
  9. I figured the unit would actually stay dryer if I could keep it under the spray skirt in the cockpit and just run the antenna cord up to my shoulder shere a strap retaining loop would seem to be the perfect mounting spot. Where I live there isn't much fast water so I'm generally on inland lakes. Although I guess if I had the external antenna attached the attachment port would be open and could pose a threat. So maybe keeping the unit in a dry bag and somehow running the cord out and sealing that hole would be the best solution.
  10. That's good to know; I went out kayaking yesterday and I was wondering about that since I had the belt clip on my PFD. I thought about using the suction cup car mount on the deck but I figured if I hit it I'd be diving. I'm now considering clipping an external antennae on the shoulder of my PFD and putting the unit in the cockpit under the spray skirt. I only want it for track, distance and speed info on most trips so it won't matter that I can't see it.
  11. You can use City Select without Waypoint manager. The reason you had an issue was that they share some files. Re-install City Select after uninstalling Waypoint mManager and it will work fine. I use City Select on both my laptops and desktops at home and work and have never installed Waypoint Manager. I tried that, although admittedly I did not remove it and reinstall, I used the "Repair" option on City Select, which still had me use all 3 CD's. After doing that City Select still gave an error message so I reinstalled Trip and Waypoint, and no more problems. Perhaps if I had removed both entirely and then tried to reinstall City Select as you suggest it would work, but at some point having both became easier than all of that.
  12. I've only owned my 60CS for a couple of days, but it seems to be a great unit. After reading through this entire thread I've found quite a bit of info, although most of it could have been accomplished by RTFM. A couple of points: Earlier in the thread it was suggested that once City Select was installed, Waypoint and Trip manager was no longer needed. That is not true. Using CS V6, if one attempts to remove Waypoint and Trip, CS V6 will no longer open. You don't have to use Waypoint and Trip, but it has to remain installed. The Garmin suction cup vehicle mount is poorly designed. The cradle for the unit precludes one from being able to install the unit with the 12V adapter attached. The unit has to be put in the cradle and then the adapter attached to the back of the then facing the windshield assembly. Then to remove the unit the adapter has to be pulled before the unit can be taken out of the cradle. Just an FYI, Sam's Club has the 60CS for $395, and their 3 year warranty is around $40 or less. Gander Mountain is one of the few places that will match Sam's Club pricing, so I bought it there locally with no extended warranty offered. I may regret that but there's something to be said for instant gratification. I'm using Energizer 2500 mAh rechargeables with so far excellent results. They had an 8 pack w/charger at Sam's for under $20. Has anyone used Li AA cells? I can't find any documentation from Garmin regarding this but in my camera flash units they last much longer and actually weigh less. Anyone have any sites of customized waypoint symbols? Also what program are people using to modify waypoint symbols. I have the xImage for transfer, but I have been unable to modify them with luck using Photoshop CS.
