  1. I may be in the minority, but I like looking for caches in a set area like on a bike path or nature trail where I can walk and get some caches along the way. I dont like driving to a spot where there are only one or two and have to go someplace else or have to walk a huge distance for them.
  2. Why do caches have to be .1 miles (or 528 ft, or 161 meters) from each other? What is the reasoning? Why can't they be closer? i found an area I'd like to place a cache but it is less than 528 ft from other caches in the area.
  3. After a year? How have you been loading caches in your gps and finding them until now? Have you been using the PQ's as suggested in your thread of last year: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=275743 Don't mean to be rude, but it seems like an odd thing to ask about after all this time. B. Its ok. Its not rude. I said I wasn't sure how to ask this question. I know how to load the coordinates into my gps. I either send it to my gps from the site or if I have to individually input coordinates, I can do that as well. I have just always wondered what those GC codes were. I wasn't sure if they were way points or something. Thank you for your help.
  4. I need some help. I don't even really know how to ask my question because I don't really know if these are coordinates. Here goes anyways. When I'm on geocaching.com and I select a geo cache there are a series of letters and numbers at the top right of the screen on the computer for the cache. An example of one is GC1VZHA and another is GC2HWNQ....What are these??? Are they another form of coordinates. If they are how do I go about inputing them onto my Oregon GPS? Any help on this would be appreciated. I have been wondering about those for a while now and I can't seem to find an answer because I'm not sure how to inquire about them. Thank you. Revision to this question: I totally asked this question wrong and implied that I didn't have any idea about coordinates at all. I know how to download the cache info to my GPS and input coordinates individually when I need them. I was just inquiring about the Geo Codes as I have just found out through some of you. Thank you so much.
  5. I didn't even know snakes could do that in a tree. I am learning so much from this thread. I live in Buffalo, NY and I will take snow over snakes any day of the year. I havne't heard of anyone running into a poisonous snake in the woods in WNY. The next thing I look up on the internet is going to be, "poisonous snakes in WNY". I scream when I see a baby Garter snake.
  6. I just wanted to add that I am hoping to place a cache to honor that man. I gathered some of his favorite things to put in the cache and now I'm just looking for the perfect place. He loved history and going to military forts so I'm hoping to place it near one. I'm from the Buffalo, NY area and am looking at the area by Old Fort Niagara. I think he would've liked that.
  7. I just wanted to add my voice, so to speak. The man I was dating on and off for two years past away on New Years last year. It had been a hard year but things are a lot better now. I had found that the things we use to do for fun aren't really fun anymore. I had heard about geo cacheing from a local newspaper article a few yrs ago and thought it sounded fun but didn't know anyone who did it. That changed last May. I've gotten into it slowly and it's really the one thing that I actually have fun doing. It gets me out and I get some badly needed exercise. It also frustrates the heck out of me sometimes when I can't find a cache, but I get determined and don't give up and keep coming back till I can find it. It's the best feeling I have now. I only wished I started when I first read about it.
  8. I couldn't seem to find a thread that answers my question. I have an Oregon 550. My question is, Is there anyway to download multiple geocaches to my gps at once or do I have to do it one by one? Thank you.
  9. Hello, My name is Lynda. I'm from the Buffalo NY area. I just started geocaching earlier in May. I really enjoy doing it when I can find the time. I've only 5 cache's so far and I'm hooked. I wished I discovered this years ago. I recently purchased a Garmin Oregon 550. I'm hoping I can figure it out so I can get out there more. After I find a few more I would like to hide my own. I've got the items I want to put in it and the general area I would like to hide it. I just need to find the right spot for it.
  10. Thank you for the help. Last night online I bought a Garmin Oregon 550. Hopefully, I will be able to figure this one out.
  11. Thank you for the help. I will check out the Garmin ones a bit more.
  12. I know this topic has been discussed numerous times. Once more can't hurt. I've just recently started geocaching with a friend. We have been using his Iphone. I purchased a Lowrance Out and Back GPS. I purchased it without doing any research and I am paying for it now. I have absolutely no idea how to use the thing, so that goes to show how technologically impaired I am. I'm sending it back and am now doing a ton of research on them, so much so that I am as confused as ever as to what to purchase. Any suggestions to help a beginner would be greatly appreciated. Also, Do you have to purchase maps seperately? thank you.
