  1. So last night I tried the method suggested of dragging in the GPx file from the My Finds query and it did indeed work properly. It also, as stated, updated the archived ones as well. I guess I'll have to use this method, even with its "once every three days" limitation. Thanks for all the commentary no suggestions guys. I knew I turned to the right place Anthony
  2. This is all great information, Thanks. I think, for the time being, I may split up PQs by state. That will buy me a little time. Then after that, use the My Finds query and drag into GSAK. Not ideal, but it'll work. I wish GC allowed more entries to be downloaded in the PQs. At least for Premiums members.
  3. Ok, so I agree with what your saying on the My Finds button and such. Part of the reason I use a PQ is to download it directly into GSAK. Unless someone can guide me how, I don't think that is possible on the My Finds query. I run my PQ everyday so it's updated whenever I go into GSAK and download.
  4. Ok, so quick question. I use GSAK to keep a database of my found caches, do my statistics, etc.. and have, up to this point, managed OK because I've had under 1000 caches found. Now I have over 1000 and am wondering if I'm going to have to redesign my queries to handle the additional caches. Does anyone have experience with this? Do you do it by state? Date placed? Type of container? Any guidance would help on this, Thanks in advance Anthony aka ACompofelice
  5. My first, and so far only, 5/5 was GCH52C Beyond Here, Lay Dragons. It is in my hometown and I grew up seeing it's location without even knowing what it (or geocaching) were. A caching friend and I made the 45 min kayak trip to the GZ, retrieved the cache, took some photos, then made the 45 minute return trip. Was totally worth it! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=6b5f37ac-a187-4b53-a2d0-bf018f7925a6 Anthony
  6. LifeHacker has been doing it's "Spy Week" of articles and today's was about dead drops (those secret drops that spies use). Since geocaching is essentially the same thing, the article makes several connecting to caching. It seems like the author is a cacher due to his comments. Worth a read. http://lifehacker.com/5960359/how-to-plant-a-dead-drop-without-everyone-finding-it Anthony
  7. Hey there all, As some of you may know I have two series that are out in the downtown Houston area that I'm looking to get adopted by someone local. I have recently moved with my wife and new daughter to an area that makes it difficult for me to maintain these two series effectively. The first series is the Old Sixth Ward Series GC2WCFR Old Sixth Ward #4 GC2WCPD Old Sixth Ward #5 GC2WCPQ Old Sixth Ward #6 GC2W5VR Old Sixth Ward #3 GC2W0CJ Old Sixth Ward #2 GC2VYEY Old Sixth Ward #1 And the second is the Washington Corridor Series: GC3A5MQ Washington Corridor Series #3 GC3A5MZ Washington Corridor Series #4 GC3A5ME Washington Corridor Series #1 GC3A5MJ Washington Corridor Series #2 GC3A5N0 Washington Corridor Series #5 GC3A5N4 Washington Corridor Series #6 If you're up for adopting, please let me know either through the GC website or at acompofelice (at) gmail.com. Thanks! I'd hate to have to archive these. Anthony aka acompofelice
  8. There was a button at the bottom of the "pop-out" on the left of the map screen, but it seems to have disappeared now while Groundspeak works out the kinks, so you might have to wait to try it out. Ahh ok thanks.
  9. I don't see how to change the default to Google Maps... tried logging out, even cleared cookies/cache.. Any suggestions on how to set google maps as the default?
  10. I definitely dislike the idea of "dipping" TB's jsut to gain mileage. I've had that happen to a few of mine, usually by the same person in my area, and I send an email after awhile asking them to drop it. I still have one being "held hostage" and it indeed leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The idea of a TB is for it to be discovered, moved, dropped, and repeated. Remember, the owner took the time to put it in the wild. Respect their wishes, or the goals of the TB, and get it back into a cache for others! My $0.02 Anthony aka acompofelice
  11. I'm really trying to keep a database of my trackables so I can load it into GSAK. PQs are the easiest way to load the data into the program
  12. Is there a way to create a pocket query that keeps track of the location/status of my owned trackables (travel bugs, etc)? Couldn't see a way to do this in the PQ creator.
  13. I agree with many of the above. I do not like the idea of the challenges interfering with the cache finds. Keep it in a separate place.
  14. That's what the ideal situation would be, but for some reason I think on the 4.5.1 version of the app it no longer shows the Tracking (Secret) Number. From doing some research on the app issues, it looks as tho this issue may have been brought up with the developers. Whether it is going to be solved is a matter that remains to be seen.
  15. I understand the nature of the secret code. To further refine my question, when your on the TB's tracking page and you are the TB owner, you see the secret as in the image below (the secret code is partially whited out): See image at: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QZE0WiWS7XSxbN8qnwiRog But on the iPhone app, even tho I am logged as my account and the owner of the TB, I see the following, and therefore can't reference which TB I'm dropping: See image at: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/5Oxoxpdi1Y4Q5r62bNjajb4Qv2P7hf3WS1IxqlsurDs Makes sense now?
  16. Ok, so I actively use the iPhone GC app and noticed that it's easy to drop a TB in a cache while posting a Find log, but because it shows only the TB reference number, I can't necessarily correlate to the TB's I have in my inventory. Since the app logs you into to the GC system, I would assume that they could show the TB Owner the actual TB Secret Code. Is this a problem others have, or have solved? Maybe its just an app enhancement... Thoughts?
  17. I just added one to my car, and have one to add to my wife's since I usually take her's (an SUV) caching. Easier to get in and out of than a low riding sportscar I saw a Vehicle TB just recently in Galveston while on a caching trip and it made me decide to get one too!! Of course the problem is now that I need to be a better driver
