  1. I found a library where I would like to place a cache, but there is sort of one within 200ft that was "temporarily disabled" over two months ago due to it coming up missing and the CO not having time to replace it. The comment was, "I'm really tired of replacing this thing. I can't go by there yet, but if I get around to it, I'll let y'all know." Can I recommend this be archived so I can get my cache approved or how should I handle this? As I stated, it's been over two months since the CO posted that comment and temporarily disabled the cache. Thanks!
  2. Of course it's always nice if a cache takes you some place nice where you can appreciate the hunt, but not all caches do this.
  3. Me personally, I do not approve nor disapprove of where or what a cache may be. If it's near an adult bookstore, whatever. I'm in it for the hunt first and the location second because some locations have no meaning. Sometimes I do go for the location first if I know it's going to take me some place nice, but if I just need a quick cache fix, then I don't care.
  4. I have made up a little "geo to go" bag. I put some little trinkets, my tweezers, gel pen, extra logs, etc.. in this bag. Very rarely do I "keep" a trinket. What I usually do is put one of my trinkets in a cache and if I take one I put it in my geo to go bag to bring along to another cache and I just keep swapping them around. If I do keep one, then I just add another trinket from home to my geo to go bag so I always have full stock on hand! I have found some items that I just shake my head on... expired coupons from a year ago, plastic forks, pieces of a broken toy, etc. I've never considered "cleaning" these type of caches before because I didn't feel I was allowed to, but as time goes by and I find more and more I'm thinking I may do just that. There really are so few caches that actually hold little "treasures", so might as well have them hold exciting items for the little ones rather than a napkin from McDonalds!
  5. and yes, you would just add a sheet, rather than replacing, since the cache owner may wish to see the signatures. If the container is too small to fit two log sheets (which happens) you can either just write a "needs maintenance" note, or save the log sheet and email the owner and ask if they would like it mailed to them. Some people will take photos of it and send those to the cache owner. I've done it both of the first two ways. It depends on the situation. Most caches you can just add paper though. I did print them off the internet and when we recently came across a couple that had full logs we added a new one.. when I said "replace" I didn't mean to actually remove the log that was already in there.. just to add a new one so people could still log their finds. I would definitely never remove a log from a cache without the CO's permission. If it was full and there was no room left in the cache to add a new one, then it would make perfect sense to send a maintenance request to the CO and have them take care of it.
  6. Quick question... can I print logs off the internet on just regular printing paper? I want to put some "spares" in my little Geoaide kit for when I'm out searching and I come across a log that's full and needs to be replaced. I know I can order them online pretty cheap, but in the interim for the micros can I just use regular paper to print a log on and put it in the cache if I find that it's full?
  7. My two cents... At first I was going for the swag when I started last year. Only found 5 in 2011 as I got bored with the garbage that some people put in there. However, this year I have a little more time on my hands and actually started to get into looking for "anything" that was close to the area I was in at the time. The micros and nanos have become a challenge to find! There is one literally across the street from me that I have been to at least 6 different times over the past year that I cannot find! I have gotten a clue from the owner, but it wasn't a very good one since I've looked two more times since then and still cannot find it! It's the thrill of the game! I put together my strategy before leaving on my walk/hike/adventure. I'll look at the online map, since it's much bigger than my phone app, and I decide where I want to go. I would probably say 75% of the hides are micros, but every now and then I'll look for an area that has some small or regular size containers to trade stuff. I've visited areas that I never would have before just so I can find that little 35mm container (or smaller) and log my name saying I was successful at finding this little bugger!! I've been to areas that I will definitely visit again because it was such a nice place, and I've visited areas that I was afraid I was going to get attacked by something in the bushes! LOL. Don't do it for the swag, that's just a benefit every now and then. Do it to learn more about different places and get some exercise and fresh air on your journey to hitting personal goals! Enjoy!
  8. I'd like to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts and advice. I have very kindly been gifted a year membership and have been completely thrilled and excited about it! I have vowed to do the same to someone in my position when I am capable of doing so because geocaching has definitely been a stress relief for me during this emotional time. I have been getting a lot of fresh air and exercise in these past few weeks that I hadn't gotten when I was working. So again, thank you everyone. And to Highpointer, until you are in a position like I have been in you should really watch what you post. I believe in Karma and by kicking someone when they are down is just not a very nice thing to do.
  9. Wow and maybe you shouldn't be replying to a post unless you have something intelligent to say. While the yearly rate equates to $2.50 per month, the membership fee is $30.00 for the year. For a single mom who has recently been laid off due to absolutely no fault of her own, $30 or even $10 being spent on something like this at this time is in fact a lot of money! I do my geocaching in between my daughter's school and home, with my bf on the weekends in his car or I walk around the neighborhood, for free. I save my gas for interviews and transporting my child to school. You are obtuse in your reply. You must of had a bad day and decided to take it out on me suggesting I stop doing something that so many people enjoy just because I can't be all Premium like you and pay the $30. You should really be ashamed of yourself.
  10. Thank you for this information. This may be more helpful. While I would love to buy the Premium membership, being recently laid off due to the company I worked for being sold is not something in the budget, even for only $10.00.
  11. I've recently found some nice spots that I was trying to hide a cache in. However, I'm finding a huge problem with the fact that I cannot afford the Premium service...I can't see the Premium cache's that are hidden in the same area! This is very frustrating! I was told I can see them on the map, but this is not correct as I have tried doing that prior to going out to determine where to hide the cache. Are there any non premium members out there that know how to work around this?? I have put so much effort into putting my first cache together and even have a TB to put in to get moving around, but each area I go to has a Premium cache too close to the spot I've chosen, of course I don't find this out until after I've submitted my location. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
