  1. Keystone, We all appreciate the thankless job you guys do in your spare? time. Thanks for the hard work you put in. By the way, I hope you didn't take my email from a couple days ago wrong. I was in no way insinuating that you should spend your holidays working on geobusiness. Thanks for your help on the subject... I tried to search the site and forums for help, but...
  2. 1. Haven't done that lately. Probably could. Have to reload everything, but no biggie. 2. Upgraded firmware a few months ago. Could try it. other: 1. Has done it with two different files. 2. I use many when driving... it only happens with 0.8 mi. Don't think it's a vibration problem as it seems fine at other zoom levels, as well as on my mountain bike. I guess i'll reinitialize and reload all my maps and waypoints and see if it's still screwy.
  3. I have a Magellan SporTrak topo that is a little over 1 year old. For some reason, when my scale is set to 0.8 mi, it will shut down frequently. No error message or anything... it just shuts off. This happens frequently when I'm driving. I don't use 0.8 mi when I'm "on the ground", but 0.8 mi is a useful scale for me driving around locally. Any ideas/suggestions? I'm wondering if it should go back to Magellan, but I don't really want to part with it for any period of time, and it works flawlessly, other than that.
  4. Scouting, Too bad you can't retroactively get them to get ahold of my TB. Both emails went unresponded to.
  5. Yeah, it's a traveler, as was the Md coin. I just get a kick out of having them for a few days, admiring them, and getting a fancy new icon on my cache stats page. This one is probably going back out tomorrow, but certainly this week.
  6. No way. This is going to be a mile in the backcountry. I'm starting to think my cache might have a lifetime total of two logs.
  7. Jeremy... Is Gus missing an eye? How'd he lose the eye? That picture of Zarley is fantastic. I envy your photography skills.
  8. Howdy, folks. I'm a n00b to these geocoins. I found my first, a maryland geocoin a couple weeks ago. My second was a present from Santy Clause... a 2005 Christmas coin. I just snagged my third, a USA 2005 geocoin. My question is... where do these "USA", "Maryland", "Iowa", etc geocoins originate, and how can I learn more about them? Why was the 2005 USA or Maryland coin minted? is there a backstory, or are they just cool tbs running around cacheland? I have to say... I really like them. I think it could get addicting. I mean, I just ran out at 11:15 pm eastern to race and grab one from a cache... LOL.
  9. Couldn't the same be said for any super tough 5*? I'm sure people are worried about non-rock climbers being overcome with stupid and attempting a cache. I don't think your concern is specific to my cache.
  10. Sept1c tank: I guess he helps you seal the deal...?
  11. I have a Magellan SporTrak Map with handlebar mount, and it does everything you need.
  12. And in this Christmas season, geocaches are the perfect opportunity to REGIFT!
  13. SPLAT! was our first TB find. Mrs. Wandering Bears took this great picture when we dropped him off.
  14. Zoe is a good looking dog! Winchester is the elder statesman of the clan and only goes along for the easy ones these days. He's 11, and the resident Robo-weiner. He has the finest back that money can buy, ($1800... ) installed by the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. I have to give them props, they took my paralyzed, almost ready-to-put-down dachshund and gave him a new lease on life, now 5 years and counting. So he walks a little funny and wags his tail crooked, so what? :D
  15. Snake Hunt Although, this was turning a 3 into a 4+...
  16. I've not seen one either. We've lived in WV for three years, and supposedly you can see them from here sometimes. I just posted to congratulate you on your excellent choice in GPS.
  17. I was caching in the Pine Barrens region of NJ one winter several years ago when I heard shouting and shots. This injured Russian dude came running past me. Later, I saw these two italian guys cussing at each other in a van. I have no idea what they were doing. I wonder what happened to that Russian guy?
  18. My house is only 3 miles from PA outside Morgantown, WV... does that count?
  19. I think if there were a rope/pulley system (which I had thought about) then it wouldn't require any special equipment. I think a rope/pulley where I'm thinking of putting this would be a 3/3 or 3/4 at best.
  20. Jamie: Can you elaborate on that thought? What about a 5* in particular requires extra maintainance? I'm sure I'll have some people email for help, and I might even be pursuaded out with them to help... but I'd think the low traffic cache wouldn't require that much maintainence in and of itself...
  21. I am considering a 5* cache, but I want it to be findable. My idea is to use my climbing tree stand to climb up 20-30 feet in a hardwood and tie an ammobox to a branch. This tree will be impossible to climb w/o equipment, as it has no branches until you get to the top. Can y'all think of other ways, besided hauling a ladder into the woods that people might be able to retrieve it? I'm unfamiliar with climbing gear, other than tree stands used by us hunters. Do you think it's a decent idea, or too tough? Thoughts, opinions, flames, insults, and praise are welcome.
