  1. Coalcat, read my log. The coords for the micro were off.
  2. Depends on the cache. If it's a long hike I'll have provisions. But for most if not all caches, I carry GPS xtra batteries knife 1st aid kit cell phone swag pencil pen LED flashlight .357 Mag
  3. Initializing isn't required, but it eliminates the unit taking half an hour to find the satellites.
  4. Hey Jeep in WV, where did you find that? I've been looking for one for ages... I'm in Morgantown, btw.
  5. Not to worry. I love finding them, but I move 'em along as soon as I can. Already dropped this one back in circulation
  6. Just snagged one from a cache, and I must say they are BEAUTIFUL! Thanks to whomever put in the time, effort, and expense on these. Finding this one made my day.
  7. You must be talking about getting the .50 cal cans because the 6 pack of .30 cal cans runs me $32 with shipping, including the heavy item surcharge at Cabelas. Yes, I was. Sorry I wasn't clear.
  8. Cabelas puts on a surcharge. The cans are cheaper, though. I've bought from both Cabelas and Cheaper than dirt... and both times it's run me about $50 total for 6 cans.
  9. This was the hint for a cache in San Diego that I got several weeks ago: Whatever that means.
  10. embra: thanks for your suggestions. I did reinitialize all memory, then rebuilt my home map. I have not had any problems with the 0.8 mi zoom in 3 days of caching since. Thanks!
  11. The maps seem to have been broken for a few days.
  12. That's why anytime I'm working around electricity I keep one hand in my pocket! I learned that trick in grad school, where I was working with high voltage. I took 18,700 volts to my right hand at the back of my high voltage power supply. My arm hurt for several weeks. I can also tell you what that sounds like. It sounds like this... CRACK! "Oh s*** s*** s***!"
  13. I just placed a micro that has no redeeming features whatsoever. You've Got To Be Kidding Me...
  14. You already have the best container.
  15. I like to find clamps, levels, tools, zippie ties, orange tape....
  16. Tandem: I can confirm cat and dog are NOT in I-79. I've logged bugs in and out of that cache very often, as it's only 10 miles from my home. Sorry!
  17. Here's one for ya: Reported: 01/06/2006 Traveller: Ringwraith Owner: Wandering Bears In the Hands: bobfvfd16 Last Seen: Taken by n00b with 1 find from Laurel Caverns Cache (Pennsylvania, USA) 11/06/2005; n00b will not return emails; n00b has not been on site since. HELP! He only went 18 miles!
  18. Scouting, I got a little bored tonight and placed a devilish 3/3 micro in a small morgantown park. It's called "You've Got to Be Kidding Me" and has no redeeming features whatsoever, except for the anger it will invoke. It's not approved yet. Tomorrow, I'm going to Preston Co to work on my 5/5 I've dubbed "The Beast on Briery Mountain".
  19. I'd tote you around. Then again, I'm weird. I want to be cremated and loaded into 12 gauge shotgun shells. Then give everybody at the funeral a box to take home with 'em. My wife refuses to honor this request.
  20. So I've found a few really good waterproof micro containers. I'm not going to go saturating my area with micros just because. But I do enjoy a good micro from time to time, and I am going to use some in my upcoming 5/5 multi. That being said, I have printed up a few cache sheets with the 132 logs and stuffed them in these micro containers along with a note that if you take the micro, you should place it sometime reasonably soon. The note also says not to go wasting a good spot where you could put a traditional standard cache. Anyways, I'm thinking of using a few (say 5-6) as SWAG and FTFs. I would enjoy finding one... what do y'all think? Am I just encouraging MICROism? There have not been too many new hides in my area in the past several months... only a handful, and thankfully, we are not saturated with micros. I wouldn't mind a half a dozen new micros to pop up, and it's not as if I'm putting a gun to anybody's head to take it. I assume if somebody takes it they will place it...
  21. Oh, pshaw. When I was a kid, we used to catch those and play with them all the time. Toxicon 2001 Aug;39(8):1261-3 The levels of tetrodotoxin and its analogue 6-epitetrodotoxin in the red-spotted newt, Notophthalmus viridescens. Yotsu-Yamas***a M, Mebs D.Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University, 1-1 Tsutsumidori-Amamiyamachi, Aoba-ku, 981-8555, Sendai, Japan. Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogue 6-epiTTX were detected in 11-12 specimens of the red-spotted newt, Notophthalmus viridescens, by a post-column fluorescent-HPLC system and by LC/MS in selected ion monitoring mode. TTX levels varied considerably among individuals from low (less than 0.15 microg TTX/g newt) to high concentrations (23.5 microg TTX/g newt), while 6-epiTTX was found to be a minor constituent in all specimens. PubMed Link Pshaw, indeed. Tetrodotoxin is a potent toxin. It acts by impairing nerve function. It blocks the sodium ion channel proteins. The LD50 (the dose sufficient to kill 50% of a population) for mice is only 10 nanograms, a tiny fraction of the total toxin produced by the skin of the newt.
  22. Those secrete a powerful neurotoxin that can be absorbed into the bloodstream through cuts, abrasions, eye/mouth/nose and the digestive tract. I don't think I'd give my 7 y/o one.
