  1. What happened to the Jeep coordinate conversion option? I used the feature to plot my caches on Streets and Trips but the feature has been removed. Any other way to do it????

  3. Well being a law enforcement officer and depending on where I am, I usually just say say "Hi-insert name here, how's it going!" ha ha But if I'm out somewhere that I can't do that , I simply tell the truth and tell them to stay safe. As for civillians who are approached, I recommend the same method. I know it's sometimes fun to make up stories to tell people but don't do it w/ a cop. It will just make them even more suspicious if they even think they are being lied to.
  4. Well, yes... I actually get annoyed at how many times this happens to me ha ha. I am a Detective and made several arrests and or assists while caching. It really takes the fun out of it when you have to go to work in the middle of the hunt ha ha.
  5. Here is a repost of my reply to this topic from Sept. 05. Well here is my 2cents as a Law Enforcement Officer (specifically a Narcotics Detective) There are numerous variables to this. 1. What kind of drug(s) is it? ie did you find a pot field or is it a meth lab? marijuana is not absorbed through the skin while coke and meth could be Marijuana fields would be looked at and a decision would be made as to whether to just pull the plants with no investigation or to sit on the plants with the hopes of catching the grower. We do sometimes find fields with booby traps in them but not often in my jurisdiction. (NC) Just be observant. Take a reading at the site and advise Law Enforcement as soon as you can and provide them with what information you can. ( feel free to continue on the hunt unless the grower is actually present and knows u spotted them.) Meth Labs are unique dangers all by thierselves. (ie chemicals, booby traps and violent subjects) Get a reading and advise LE IMMEDIATELY! Leave the area IMMEDIATELY!
  6. I usually just tell the truth but sometimes I have fun with it. Once some city workers inquired as to why we were poking around some bushes in a park area. We told them we were from the local college herpetology department and were catching snakes and had just found one hiding there...they actually ran!! ha ha
  7. Narcotics Detective here and member of the Special Response Team. 11 yrs on the job.....feels like 40 ha ha
  8. Mine is the Combat Infantry Badge. The badge is given to U.S. Army Infantry qualified soldiers who been involved in "active ground combat." In civilian terms it means I got shot at and I shot back ha ha. I am no longer in the Army, hence the name "XGrunt."
  9. This particularly cache was a Pepsi can that was crushed and flattened out. The tupperware container was glued to the can and placed in a small depression. Area was a city park with alot of hiking trails. The clue was "Brittany likes it." Like I said I thought is was a fairly clever cache but just wondered about adding to the "trash" that others had already thrown there.
  10. Kelty Apex here. Plenty of storage, hydration bladder. Everything you need and nothing you don't.
  11. We found a recent cache only because we were practicing CITO. The hide was a small tupperware container glued to the bottom of a crushed soda can. What are the rules on this? I mean it really was a pretty cool cache but it was still trash. There was alot of trash in this area by the way. Just wondering.
  12. Quite a few times! Most recently in Va Beach last week. I went for a cache in a park and on approach passed two females sitting in a car. 30 minutes later while returning to my car observed them quite enthusiastically well err ummm...well yeah .... They never paid any attention to me until I was driving away...boy did the heads pop up then ha ha !!

(ie chemicals, booby traps and violent subjects) Get a reading and advise LE IMMEDIATELY! Leave the area IMMEDIATELY! Advise LE of what you may have seen and stand by for them to respond if possible. Be aware that there is potential for "cross contaimination" from the chemicals used in meth manufacturing. 2. What is the quantity of drugs? ie did u find a dime bag of weed of personal use amounts of cocaine? This will determine our response. If it's personal use then a Patrol Officer/Deputy will probably respond. If it's a pot field or lab then a Narcotics Detective will respond. Either way we will respond, that's our job. Things to remember: Above all your safety is paramount! Never do anything that jeopardizes that. We rarely fingerprint found narcotics unless we have a suspect in mind. Please don't leave narcotics in the open in an area where children might find them. At a minimum try to cover them with leaves or something. ALWAYS atleast notify Law Enforcement so that we may recover the evidence and be aware of a potential area of concern. Never attempt to destroy the evidence yourself, that is what Law Enforcement is for. Hope this helped !
