  8. so what would be a good program for paperless on say a laptop ? maybe pocket pc ? thanks
  9. I would suggest downloading GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), a free 3rd party waypoint management program. You can perform all sorts of filters to narrow your caches down to just what you describe. Next, I would suggest downloading USAPhotoMaps, another 3rd party program that will allow you to upload your waypoints, and tracks, over TerraServer.com aerial photos, or maybe better for your Yellowstone trip, USGS 1:24000 topo mapping. You can save a screen shot .jpg to print to carry in the field. Both programs are great geocaching tools that I use every day! Enjoy Wyoming! I lived in Casper for many years and often spent time in the Tetons and Yellowstone at all times of year. thanks for reply,, i have downloaded gsak,,, but did not see how to filter on say yellowstone park ?? so can i get the topo mapping on usaphotomaps ? ok, thanks, again
  10. hi, little behind on learning curve.... and running out of time... going on trip to yellowstone and grand teton national parks, have pocket querries of caches all over area,,, my garmin quest will only hold 500 waypoints,, what is a good technique to easily narrow down the number of caches to just those in the parks?? hoping to display on map and then choose points ?? or some other way or use some other program ?? i also wanted to print map of the parks showing caches and cache name? nothing fancy just basic map showing cache general cache location. any help would be great ,,, leaving for trip soon and not sure i will get the gps loaded up note: i have garmin mapsoure for city select also have garmin topo for national parks not loaded yet .. ok, thanks
  11. hi everyone,, i was looking for gps unit like eXplorist with big display,, 3.5" for main use in car with all the autorouting with voice prompting ?? some times use for geocaching. the garmin quest had all features but screen is small... i want to use for geocaching also so i need to have batt unit... some of dedicated mobile units i have seen had no batteries.. any thoughts ?? also which stores cary automotive type gps units i could look at ?? thanks
  12. so it looks like you something like Mapopolois to get you in area with car,, and then beeline gps helps for close in work.. and you think PPC is just as accurate gps as garmin 76c when things get setup correctly ?? thanks
  13. wow,,, that does great !!! so what features would be gained with Quest2 or lost with Quest2 ?? i know quest2 has the voice prompting. thanks
  14. could i do everything on pocketPC GPS ?? Goals 1- geocaching with gps full mapping features - some custom mapping maybe 2- autorouting with voice prompts in while in car for normal city use 3- paperless geocaching -- (last on goal list) new to sport... currently looking at getting: garmin 76cs or garmin quest series and just using my existing phone pda for paperless ================= my other thought was a pocketPC completely setup for above so just one unit: ================== note: i am not in area to do extreame hiking ,,, so more city geocaching and easy hiking geocaching. extreame durablity is not a first concern.. anyone had luck with pocketpc for all the above ?? if so ,,, how cumbersome is it to really use ?? thanks
  15. so on 76cs ,,,, once i got city select,,,, then loaded my area map into the 76 from city select,,, so i think i could then use the 76cs as autoroute,,, and i could get it to display "turn right at xyz street" ,,, and beep also... would i be able to just enter a street address into the 76cs while in the car and it would autoroute ??? or would i need to know lat & long of the location ??? thanks thanks
  16. i am new to this and it worked for me on my first download .loc file,,, i did it on the maps.google.com ,,, is this google earth ? really great !!!! thanks
  17. hey thanks for bringing up the quest , quest2 units i had not looked at those,,, so it sounds like in gerneral "GARMIN" seems more supported for software utilities , custom mapping issues, just much bigger user base.. than other manufacturers.. so in general,,, being new to gps units will garmin quest series units, load geocaching data into maps like the garmin 76 series,,, same pc software and tools... ect... ??? or is quest units really setup different than 76 series ?? thanks again for the help !!!
  18. on garmin or lowrance,,,, 2 main goals for one gps unit--- 1-want gps unit for geocaching with mapping 2-want gps unit for autorouting with voice commands for use in car looks like will not get all the above so seeing what gets most of it ??
  19. any thoughts on lowrance high end units like H20 or iway 100m,,, comparing with garmin 60 or 76 units ?? lowrance seems so much less $$ but are you getting a lot less ?? thanks
