  1. This is an interesting question. To me it is sort of like asking a rancher how many head of cows he owns or someone how much money they have in the bank. . . . .
  2. Not only am I the World's Worst Cacher, I am also the World's Worst Coin Owner. Here are my stats: 62 Activated coin owned. - 23 have gone missing. (plus whatever I have not really checked on and marked missing) - 8 lost in my own house . . . Ok I know where some of them are but have not yet put them in caches. So I have about 1/2 that are still actively moving. That being said I have had a couple come back from the dead. Another one that got stuck in a very difficult multi for more than a year, but recently was rescued. I once asked Marky how he kept from getting frustrated with coins going missing and his response was that he put out lots of coins, so he doesn't notice the missing ones. It was good advice. The other thing I do is leave a lot of unactivated coins. These can't be stolen It also appears that most of the coins that have gone missing were the early ones I put out. My sense is that since coins have become more common they do not get stolen as often.
  3. This is the oddest thing to me. If I am the seller, e-bay or otherwise I think it is my job to offer full disclosure. If I don't the buyer should have the right to bail out of the deal. To not disclose that a trackable coin is activated is either an oversight or an attempt to be misleading by omission. If an oversight, then the seller should gladly unravel the transaction. Otherwise . . . . well it sort of makes me wonder. It is particularly puzzling to me that a seller would be so hard nosed over such a small amount of money. I suspect that through Paypal you will prevail. It is just too bad that it has to come to this. My Thoughts . . .
  4. yep there are some processes where that could work. The biggest concern I would have is how big the coin would need to be to acheive the desired effect. I suspect that if the coin where to small the illusion would be lost.
  5. Many of the bigger coin companies have coins you can purchase in the range of $5.00 a coin.
  6. Ok . . . . I have to ask . . . . It sounds like you are willing to purchase a coin. Just how much do you think would be a fair price to pay for a geocoin?
  7. You are right . . . this is too scary and maybe even the second time it happened in recent history
  8. I was, read my comments! I said yes the name and icon were a little but NEVER the coin design. Hmm . . . Not sure you can seperate them.
  9. If Groundspeak found it to be offensive they would not have approved it. Hmm . . . so if Groundspeak approves something it is automatically not offensive? Interesting concept!
  10. Three thoughts: - Regardless of what you can or cannot see in the back image, for the maker of the coin to suggest there is no sexual innuendo here is a bit difficult to believe. Between, the text, the proposed icon and the picture . . . at least be up front about it. - So Groundspeak approved it and it is going to get made. Does that make it right? Will it develop into a new game of . . . let's see how much we can get away with, which is really a game of let's see how un family friendly we can make this game and still get away with it. - Not a single post has said "oh cool design" so my question to those of you who have bought or are going to purchase it, is why would you purchase it if not because of the sexual connotation. For me it is just not a coin I would be proud to have in my collection.
  11. I just think it creates one more adventure for someone who finds the coin
  12. Yep Me 2! Gotta have: Picture? Price? Size? Shipping Cost?
  13. Wow! It is no wonder people don't like posting here. Need to take a deep breath. The tragedy here is the death, injury and lose of homes and jobs for those people who are affected. But then to attack someone for not posting a question in a right way seems to use a innocent question to cause more hurt. I have some observations: - Expressing concern here or feeling bad does no good at all. What does do good is to donate money to the relief effort: - Each day there are millions of deaths some early and some natural. I can only feel so bad for those or would not be able to function. - We as geocoin people have a real connection with people in China in a more personal way. It is natural to wonder what impact it will have on me. While not as intense it is not to much different than a wife who has lost her husband or a child their parent asking “Now what is going to happen to me?” Would those be wrong or callous questions to ask? No one said. On no I am going to be inconvenienced or not get my coins. It is rather a way of establishing a connection. - More than anything else I just am amazed at how ready we are to be critical of others and in doing so, often become our own accusation.
  14. Hey you never sent me one . . . . guess that is not likely to happen is it
  15. While I am sure this is a worthwhile project, $16 shipped to the US is going to be to much money for most people. I do wish you well with the project and with the sale.

  19. After reading this thread I debated posting at all. But I have a mouth . . . . so my thoughts . . . - Whenever someone comes to me with a design they would like me to mint. I require first choice of the finishes / metals. I make those choices based on what I think my customers; (my most valuable asset) will appreciate most. I make my choice(s) then the artist chooses. - Ultimately AE's are just another version of a given coin - THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER. - As a coin seller I always like selling more coins rather than fewer coins. With a given design I price it based on a number of factors: what it costs to make, including what i have to pay the artist, how popular I think it will be, and how many I think I can sell (related to popularity). Artists ultimately do the same. - The one thing I have honestly not quite been able to figure out is what the relationship is between price and number of coins sold. I have seen coins priced low and languish and coins priced high sell out. Within reason I am not sure there is a direct correlation. - I always recommend that people who buy coins (and I am a buyer) only buy the coins they like and pass on the ones they don't. I recently purchased 4 of those chariot coins because I liked the design and think i can make some decent trades with them, even though they cost me about $20 each. I have also passed on lots of more "reasonably priced" coins. - I am with Atwell Family; I sort of don't get this argument. In my early days I purchased 1 or 2 coins off eBay for exorbitant prices $20+, now I have lots of information available to make more intelligent decisions. This is information that is available to anyone through eBay sales and the forums. So I just don't see how anyone is being taken advantage of. - There are coins I could likely trade for at a lower cost but sometimes purchasing is just easier even if the price is higher so I would be very careful about making the assumption that Artists are overcharging. People make the decision to purchase or not based on lots of different factors. - Finally, I too long for the good old days; The days when I could make 300, 600 or even 1,000 coins and sell them out overnight. When those same coins would then sell for 2 or 3 or 4 times on eBay and people would clamor for more coins. The geocoin market has changed. It is in truth better. Go look at the oldest designs and the current designs. Fewer coins for each of the newer designs but many times they are better and more elaborate. I always celebrate change. It is life and proves we are alive and moving forward. My thoughts . . . . . . Hope I don't get in trouble doing this as HWS and not WWC is ok. Can't quite figure which I am supposed to use.
  20. There are actually a few up for sale HERE: http://www.geocoinauction.com/modules/stor...owse.php?cat=23

  22. I heard there is . . . or was, a whole "pile" of the v1 of this coin sitting at some cache on the west coast. Don't quite know if this is true, but just what I heard.
