  1. The loss of Mobipocket finally gave me a reason to purchase and download Cachemate. After playing with it for about 1 hour, I figured out how to use it much better than Mobipocket. I hope Groundspeak can find a similar solution for all other members that use Mac's, Blackberries and pocket pc's.
  2. I own a Fortrex 201 and I love it. I mostly use it for Geocaching while riding my bike. The batteries last a long time between charges and they have never gone dead on me. I usually charge it once or twice a week when I ride 2 hours a day. The charging cradle works easily and flawlessly and since the contacts are external, I never have to open up the case for any reason. I believe this makes the Fortrex 201 more water and sweat resistant than a GPSr with a removable battery cover. When I am charging the batteries, I can also load Geocache coordinates at the same time. I can also download my track files to mapping software such as Delorme and use it to make printed maps. The Fortrex seems to be as accurate as any other GPSr that I have seen while out Geocaching. I have no regrets about buying a Fortrex 201 and I would buy it again if I had to. UncleFester98
  3. Your Legend CX should have come with a rail mount that screws onto the back cover, then you can connect it to the handlebar mount. The back cover that came with your handlebar mount fits the older Garmins and isn't needed for the CX. I've been using mine on a bicycle for about 3 weeks now and the only complaint that I have; is it doesn't seem to be very secure and vibrates on rough roads.
  4. My Etrex Legend Cx only has options for <Prompted>, <Faster Time> or <Shorter Distance>. Bicycle is not an option. What model of Garmin GPSr do you have? At the bottom of that page should be the <Follow Road Options ...> choice indicated before. Select this to get to an additional page of routing options among which is <Calculate Routes for> and that's the one that has Bicycle as one of the choices. I finally get it. Thanks for the help! 5. I have a Garmin Etrex Legend Cx and I can't figure out how to set it to "bicycle mode" for auto-routing. Can you post directions on how to do this? From the Main Menu: <Setup>, <Routing>, <Follow Road Options...>, <Calculate Routes for>, <Bicycle>. Unfortunately it isn't entirely problem free. For example, one of its favorite routes through a nearby town is along the aptly named "Seven Hills Rd." While this is a nice enough road, it's not usually my choice for a quick way through town, especially since there's a stop sign or light at the bottom of each of the hills. Terrain is obviously not included in the CitySelect road data. I've also found that it excludes all freeways, even sections where bicycles are permitted and where the freeway is clearly the fastest and shortest route. My Etrex Legend Cx only has options for <Prompted>, <Faster Time> or <Shorter Distance>. Bicycle is not an option. What model of Garmin GPSr do you have?

  7. I use a Garmin eTrex Legend Cx and I am able to open .gpx files, which I download from Geocaching.com, with the MapSource software. I use pocked queries to download 200 caches at a time and save them as a cache.gpx file on my computer. I can then open the file with MapSource by clicking: File—Open and selecting “All Files (*.*) under Files of type at the bottom of the open dialog box. Then when I upload the Geocache waypoints to my Legend Cx I get the cache name and the name of the author in the note box. I hope this helps. UncleFester98
  8. Thanks, everyone for your input, however there are many more problems with this unit other than not accepting downloads from the PC. It shuts down when I switch from the compass screen to the map screen. This happens about every other time. The compass has no idea which way is north. It doesn’t point correctly to the POI or Geocache. I tried calibrating the compass several times but it always fails, giving me a message that I am rotating it too slow. I am just keeping the needle pointed to me like the instructions say. Magellan’s tech support was less than helpful and a little insulting. I won’t deal with them again! I am sending this unit back to the retailer and plan on getting a Garmin GPSr. Thanks again for your help. UncleFester98
  9. I'm going from memory here, but you need to go to menu/preferences/active setup and then make your file the active geocache file. Then its contents should display on the map screen. Yes, I tried that at it looks like the files uploaded with geocache manager are corrupt. It works with GSAK. The only problem I have with using GSAK is it seems to be overly complex. Thanks for the help.
  10. I tried GSAK and it uploads the waypoints to the GPSr just fine and I can read and access all of the files. When I use the Geocache Manager to upload the files all I can see is the main file name. I looked at the file using windows explorer and the file does indeed have some size to it (24 KB) and it seems to be in the correct format (geocache.gs). I just can't get the GPSr to show any individual files.
  11. I'm having trouble uploading geocaching waypoints to my new Magellan explorist 600 using either EasyGPS or Magellan's Geocache Manager. All I get to upload is the file name but none of the waypoints. Is there any other software that will work or is my GPSr defective? Thanks. UncleFester98
