  1. I set some challenges in London, just to see how it went. So far there have been more claims of completion that are exceedingly dubious than ones that have done what has actually been asked. I think there are several problems; it still could work but needs some tweaking. For example, a challenge looks really popular with lots of completions, but in fact most are fake completions, and there is no way to delete this fake logs. I simply do not understand the mentality of these folks, are they cheating themselves and the community at geocaching too? Edit for typos; right arm still in splint!
  2. We live in an area highly populated by ticks. On our dogs we use Advantix as it is much better than Frontline. We also permanently carry O-Tom tick hooks - which get them out with minimal fuss.
  3. Doesn't everyone who climbs Everest have a red nose? Rgds, Andy Yeh, a bit of a non challenge really, and if today is anything to go by, I can simply roll over Mt Everest on a map and claim ive completed it!
  4. It was ages til I realised it was the Water To Follow series and not the What The .... Series
  5. Sadly, I too have joined the disillusioned and things ain't wot they used to be curmudgeons. Too tired of pointless caches, too tired of " we play the game how we like" even if it does impinge on the enjoyment of others, oh I could go on, but I'm even boring myself now.
  6. I sensed your log was tongue in cheek James, and it has made me adjust the instructions on e challenge I'll get published later today. So now we know what you are up to, it's just the Germans other cachers we need to worry about! It may seem I am being picky about one nation, but I checked the other logs, and my very favourite virtual in the whole wide world was archived due to German armchair loggers, and it was the only geocache within 400 miles at the time (Xi'an, China), and it seems the same thing is happening all over again
  7. I think as creator I may be able to archive it, which indeed I shall do if the Germans and Metal-Bijou Cachers continue to abuse it!
  8. I think this has been their biggest mistake so far. They should have had an initial bunch of challenges to give a flavour of what challenges were all about. I think they had the frog one so EVERYONE could get involved and check out the app/challenge with minimal effort - but it's backfired due to all of the other silly kiss/hug/poke/prod challenges which popped up. Challenges could have their place, but due to some mis-steps people are getting awfully upset. I think the frog may have been chosen as it has a connection with Groundspeak, Signal thenFrog. I agree about setting up a few so we could see what sort of thing might be acceptable. I set one up last night to see how things might pan out Thumbs Up for The London Eye However, of 6 completions, I'd really like to delete 5, as clearly they haven't done what was asked, e.g. Go to The London Eye area and have your photo taken with your thumbs up ( eye in background). For anyone already caching in the area a challenge for interest sake, but sadly already so abused I may well archive it. If we are to self police these things then I think the creator should be trusted to look at a picture and say yes or no, you have or have not completed the challenge.
  9. Ok as nobody as managed to pull it together, I'm taking the DING! Ha! The film name translates as Brother Sun, Sister Moon. It was about the lives of St Francis and St Claire and was based in Asissi. Next question: I'm looking at 32 capsules at the moment, one may be missing and one is purple, what am I looking at?
  10. Indeed, so someone just needs to get the other character and tie all three details together ... I'll check again in the morning ... It's not really that hard ...
  11. Ok, I guess it was too hard for y'all? Just to be clear I was asking the names of the two main characters in the film, not the actors. I'll also say that the correct location has been given, so the characters may be obvious to some. If it's not successfully answered by (my) bedtime I'll claim the ding and set another question!
  12. Yes it's possible to enter new co-rods when you have the cache page open, select the little flag marker for new waypoint.
  13. Pope John XXIII died when I was a kid ... he opened the second Vatican Council but passed away during, and Pope Paul VI took over
  14. 23 apparently. DING! See? 11 years of Catholic education not wasted on me ... haha! One of my favourite films as a teenager was Fratello Sole, Sorello Luna. Who are the two main characters depicted in the film and where is it set?
  15. Yes, it's a Sealyham Terrier, clearly too easy and next time, I'll have to find a pic of an unusual cross breed to make it harder DING ... over to you.
  16. DING! Over to you! Many thanks! First time I've looked in here for ages too ... OK, what breed of dog is this ...
  17. It's Elkie Brooks, and I always wondered why she never chose Elkie Books!
  18. TBH I don't know the ins and outs of all this, and having met those involved know that you're all nice people. I have no desire to be involved in he said she said, but reading the thread, feel rather sad that you posted with the intention of getting a response, that you got, and now you are complaining because the committee justified themselves I think it is time for everyone to take a deep breath and move on ... I attended the Mega event, it was an enjoyable experience, I'm sure lots of peole put in a great deal of work, and I thank you all. Th event has been and gone, last weekends big news, this weekends memories ... And fond ones they are.
  19. The dog bite is still mending nicely, and is on the other leg from the one that I just grazed by falling off the bike. What I need on the bike, is a third wheel, and maybe even a fourth! Unfortunately, that would mean I wouldn't be able to get it through many bridleways. Indeed I know the problem of bridleways with four, sometimes three wheels intimately. If only they would stop those darned horses churning up the surface of bridleways, my life would be so much easier ...
  20. While I agree with what you're saying I think it still has importance as the far as the UK Mega Account goes..... if you get the account mega status is automatic. As someone who's on a committee who hasn't got status yet (as was the committee I was on) you will know that the absence of mega status means there are extra hoops to jump through that holders of the account will never have to experience. Automatic or not, I can see it happening, the community as a whole has grown exponentially since the days when Harrogate was but a twinkle of the eye. Some Megas in USA get by with 5-600 attendees, it may well be that some regionalisation may take place here too.
  21. With due deference to your previous recoded geocaching injury from a dog, maybe the bike should be ordered to be under proper control, on a leash perhaps, blame the owners and if it still doesn't see the error or it's ways have it put down.
