  1. Hi, Here is another 2003 geocache never found. A log was made as found in 2001 (before it was placed), but after looking at the geocacher's finds, stats and ridiculous name, it is obviously a log that should be deleted. Not the north pole, but you can see it from here http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCHC2E_not-the-north-pole-but-you-can-see-it-from-here As for Gold Lake, I am taking a hard look at an expedition to this one.... and I think I have found one of the persons who placed it. In the process of trying to contact him and get some details. Any adventurous geocachers out there looking for a great trip? I might need a partner for this one!
  2. I had the Gold Lake geocache on my Watchlist for sometime. Got a notification it had been found for the first time since 2002! Was quite interested to read the log as I was in the early stages of planning a possible expedition next July to find it. The log didn't offer much description, and this fact led me to dig a little deeper and prompted this email to the geocacher who found it. "Hi there! Noticed you were the First to Find Gold Lake cache in Nunavut on July 17th. This cache was on my watchlist and was quite interested to read your log about the adventure to find the cache that has been undiscovered since 2002! Good job! I expected a bit more of a log for such a remote and difficult loaction to get to, than just "TFTC ". Upon further inspection, I see you have been a geocaching member since Aug 3 2013, with 23 finds. Between July 17 and July 18, I see you have found caches in New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Just east of Greenland, Spain, Germany, and three in Canada (Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Nunavut). Then on July 20th, to India, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, UK. How did you perform such a feat? I'll contact podcacher and geocaching blog people so they can interview you on this amazing adventure. This has got to be one for the record books! But perhaps your logs are bogus. If they are, I suggest you delete your logs. Especially the Gold Lake cache, that has been unfound since 2002, has 26 people watching it. I'm sure some of those 26 people are considering and planning an expedition to find it." No reply as of yet.... Lol. What would prompt someone to do this? Would this travel to so many places, some very remote be even possible? Gold Lake geocache is here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=168562d5-dcb5-445a-99ff-bee7462fb55b If it is bogus, how to get it removed?
  3. Hello All, I had a great time on the trip, finding the geocache and then be able to tell the story, answer questions and documenting the incredible trip. I had emails from people worldwide and have tried to answer them all! If I missed you... thank you for the email. I was most touched by people commenting that they were inspired by the trip, and want to challenge themselves, even if it is just a little bit more. Just wanted to say I was amazed at the response and interest from the great Geocaching Community that you all have built and contributed to in your own ways. Get out there, enjoy yourselves, do a little CITO, get to an event, meet people and share stories. That's what it is all about! What's next on the list? I've been inspired by you all as well! Kougarok GC1259? Seems like a few have been to GZ and no finds, may be slated for archive... Another remote cache placed in 2002 is on my radar... No one has been to GZ, but it is a tough one to get to... I have enough airmiles to get to launching pad, and it is a canoe adventure, but do need to fly in and out. Maybe next year! All the best to you all! Chris Wereley (aka Stormgren-X)
  4. Wow, I lost track of time and didn't think it was that long! Thanx for the great interview and discussion! Can't wait to hear it!
  5. Hello Everyone, Thank you all again for your support and interest. I am about halfway through writing my journal of the adventure from inception, planning, day by day logs and conclusion. I will be sending the story to geocaching blog when it is complete with photos and videos. Also, I just finished a short interview with podcacher podcasts that will air on Sunday evening! More detail will follow in my journal. http://www.podcacher.com/ Regards, Stormgren-X Chris Wereley
  6. Whew, after three attempts to upload this vid.... Here it is! http://wikisend.com/download/379730/trim.LOh4MT.MOV It is a short clip. More to come of the adventure! I plan to write a full report! Thank you to everyone for your support, encouragement and interest! Wish I could have had all of you with us!
  7. Hello All! We are presently in Fort Albany at a Lodge and did just take a shower and rest awhile. I was hoping to post a video of our attempt at GZ but don't think I can.... What a great adventure and search for the 4.5lb Walleye Cache! We do have a lot of photos, stories, audio clips and videos to share. But am presently on limited bandwidth and on my iPod. If someone can help me with making the video available to others I will email it to them. I have been reading the forum posts and want to thank everyone who has been following along and cheering us on! The GZ video awaits!
  8. The Limestone Rapids is NW of Hearst ON. I believe it is just beyond where the Canadian Shield gives way to the Sedimentary formations of the Lowlands. Travel will be through three rivers, with no portages. Late summer calls for lining the canoe through low water / rapid areas, but doubt we will need to perform this stunt in the high water conditions.
  9. Thank you all for the encouragement. And... no we will not be replacing the cache. Already have 29 DNF to my credit, and don't take shame in that. We do have a detailed description of the cache container and location from the CO. I am hoping at best to find the crushed and scattered remains.... Looks like the first three days of the journey will be quite wet, but we are well prepared for this. Water levels are quite high, and hoping the swift current will aid us.
  10. Well, My friend have been discussing for quite some time about our next canoe trip. It's been months in the planning and we are leaving on June 1st for a 400km trek from Limestone Rapids, just NW of Hearst to Fort Albany. Ah yes, the idea for the trip was none other than being the first to GZ at http://coord.info/GCDFB, 4.5lb Walleye. Oldest unfound cache. While this was the original inspiration of doing such a trip, the research I have done on this route, the landscape, the history, and sights to see slowly began to be much more interesting than just the cache. It may be there, and may not. The CO is apparently going to be at GZ later in the month, so I will not be replacing the cache if it cannot be found..... But I will be leaving a geocoin for him to place in the new cache container. I may place one or two caches along the way as well.... We will be bringing a SPOT tracking device, and for those of you who might be interested... you can follow along on the progress here: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0uomkKqW99n9fSp5yelznVYdc0M1AU2AO Full trip report to follow....
