  1. Dear Squatting dog, Welcome to Brussels this summer! Many of the caches in and around Brussels are easily reachable by public transportation, so it's the best way to visit those. The weather can change very fast; for example in the summer if it's hot and humid, then expect a rain shower in the afternoon. So alway be prepared. And of course, after a nice geocaching day, you and your family are welcome for a drink at home!
  2. hi guys! yes i'll be working soon on the french-speaking version of the website, and become the administrator of the forum. i hope this site will become the base of the belgian geocaching community! cya! pick
  3. Hoping the gap between the USA and EU won't interfere in this project ;-)
  4. Hi everyone! My name is Pick, and I'm responsible for a great number of the caches around Brussels, among others. I had this idea one day, that we could set up a kind of geocaching hosting network around Belgium, so that potential geocachers could find a cheap accomodation. It would be a great opportunity for us, hosts, to meet people who share our great hobby! Maybe some of us, Belgian geocachers, have a guest room that they would be ready to rent for a few euros a night to geocachers from around the world. Then, who knows, if it works in our small Kingdom, we could then extend the system to other countries! If you have anything to say about this project I would be happy to hear about it! Looking forward to getting your reactions, Pick
  5. I think the decision to let geocachers log a disappeard cache is the cache owner's business. Personnally I would accept it especially if the player provides pictures or precise description. It's the hider's responsability if a cache has disappeard. The player's deception not to find the cache because it's not there anymore shouldn't be punished TWICE ! However, once the cache is published as disappeard, then I would work on a case by case basis. If a player has printed your cache page a while ago and claims he didn't have the opportunity to see the cache report change, then I would probably accept the log. In every case, both sides should keep in mind that it's just a game.

  7. Here is a bright micro cache. It contains everything: log book, description of the game, pen, and even goodies to take! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16318 It inspired me for 3 caches in Savoie, France. Very handy to take on holiday in your pocket! Good luck and happy stash hiding to you! Pick
  8. Dear KGB, You must know very little about Europe to pretend that France rules it, and that French people have an inferiority complex; they have a SUPERIORITY complex! Germany has at least as much power as France in Europe (European Central Bank, ...) Anyone who knows the basics of Europe realizes that "Europe is the power of small countries on the biggest ones". Just have a look at who were the actors in Galileo's decision. Besides, it is time for America to realize they don't have the monopoly to act worldwide. Europe doesn't want to threat anybody, but needs to gain independance in all critical matters, global positionning being one of them. Galileo will be free for end-users like you and I but fabricants will have to pay for the technology. Happy geocaching to you all, Pick

  10. I like your point of view, Team Dragon, and in this case I'm the cache owner, and the slogan was not a log, it was in the cache report header. btw, the e-mail I received was not from someone who had found my cache, nor from Jeremy

  12. Hello, in Brussels it's exactly the opposite: when I started geocaching a month ago, there were not any cache hidden in the area. So I focused on the second option of this game: hiding caches. Today was my 19th stash hidden and I'm quite happy of the results. I'm also looking for more challenge. Last week I placed a cache that could only be reached by walking on a slippery old trunk that lays on a marsh: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=20248 I was also thinking of hiding a cache on a small island in the middle of a pound. But then, I think the content should be worth getting wet. By the way, do not expect to see the content of your caches take value after a few visits, it's rather the other way around... Geohiding is very fun anyway, and certainly as exciting as geocaching. Good luck and enjoy ;-)
  13. I'm looking for someone from New York, New Jersey or Québec to go take a picture at any latitude from W74°25' to W74°25.999'. Thanks very much in advance! pick@halanzy.be
  14. The day after the results of the elections in France, I added a quote on my cache reports saying: "We won't let history repeat itself - All united against Far Right". Today I received a sharp e-mail asking me to remove that quote in order to keep politics away from Geocaching. My argument is that as long as the cache doesn't have a commercial aspect, it's up to the owner of the cache to manage his cache report in a responsible way. My motivation to add that quote was: were the drivers of the trains who led the Jews to the camps responsible for their death? I feel responsible for anything I do *or deliberately do NOT* against such a situation, and so should everyone. I would be happy to discuss this matter with anyone to see if I'm totally wrong or if other geocachers have the same feeling as I do.
