Well done Looney Larkman on reaching 100 caches! It's been awesome caching with you for the last 2 years cuz! We'll have to knock off a few more in the next few years too!
  4. Leon, you were very unlucky to have taken such a bad route. The roads we ended up on were very well kept! And we were in a golf! Luck of the draw I suppose!!

Well done Goofster on reaching 300!!! One of the longest standing cachers and a great guy!
  7. Whilst I understand that we don't need a 4x4, would it be better to bring one? Last time we couldn't get to all of the caches in our car....
  8. This is not aimed at anyone, just my own personal question..... I understand FTF, but why would somebody post FTL?? I have never understood this. Is this some sort of an achievement? Am I missing something? Are folks doing a cache then scampering home to hit the website and log the cache in the hope of getting a FTL? This is very humerous for me! As I say, I don't want to step on anyones toes, it's just something that I personally think is a little silly. Any other thoughts on this (or anything simliar)?
  9. I'm sorry guys! I don't think that i can throw these plans together in such short notice to have a super event? And unfortunately I will only be back in JHB on the Saturday morning. If anybody would like to organise this, I will be more than happy to help out in any way i can!
  10. What date will you having this very delicious breakfast?
  11. I'm only partly guilty in not dropping off a TB with speed.... I picked up a race TB about a short while ago in CT and brought it back to JHB with good intentions of placing the TB somewhere relatively quickly. Unfortunately, I haven't come across regular sized cache in a while!! Seems micros are all the rage up here? Anyway, for the sake of the TB owner I ended up dropping it in a cache that i had already done!
  12. No problem! I will happily get this going! I will do some very quick homework, then I'll post the cache!
  13. 'Bob's entire "Lord of the Rings" series is excellent! "Frodo's Journey" is fantastic, I've been back to both many times, but "Paths of the Dead" is my favourite to date! I have many many other favourites placed by some superb cachers! But all cachers should do the Lord of the rings trilogy, then you can edit your logs above accordingly!
  14. Hi all, I can still organise this if anyone's keen? M@x, you still driving this? I can lend a hand if you like? Time is running out...

A quick well done from me to the great-example-setting-super-cachers..... Cow and Chicken for being the first to complete all my caches!! Well done guys!
  16. Thanks very much everyone for coming together! It was really good to miss part of the cricket! Seriously though, it's always great to have a beer with some excellent company! Good to see everyone again!
  17. Would anyone be keen for a late afternoon drink on Saturday? I realise that many people will have plans, so how about a late afternoon get-together before the evening's activities? Say 5ish? Cape Town somewhere? Waterfront maybe?
  18. I'll put this on a new thread.....
  19. I am coming down for a few days, and would love to catch up with a few friends if possible!
  20. Well 'Bob (and everyone else!), how about beers the following friday? (23rd)
  21. Thank for posting this so that poor suckers like me, hundreds of km's away, can read it and suffer. But for everyone else in the area, including Vespa, this is a GREAT walk! I have done it many times and can highly recommmend it!
  22. Come now! Don't try cover up the fact that you've organised a boat for everyone to go out to Robin Island for free!
  23. Well done Vespa on organising the Western Cape event! I heard you are going full tilt into making it the best event SA has seen to date? Is the rumour true that there will be 5 GPS's up for grabs?
  24. I personally feel that nature conservation, in a sense, is the back bone of Geocaching. Hence CITO etc. Thus, all who compete in this sport should just use thier heads! Both in placing and finding caches. Think about the ecological implications and there should be no problem. Having said this, I feel that some of the best spots in the world are in nature reserves, and geocaching is a great way to share that. But in a responsible manner of course. I do however realise that we don't live in a perfect world, and there are idoits who feel that finding a plastic box is far more important than longterm environmental health and are willing to dig up anything in thier path. So my vote is YES for caching in reserves, but at the same time SPEAK UP about specific caches in irresponsible areas.
  25. This is especially for those who will be doing some travelling! There is a file that is mostly updated weekly on www.garmap.co.za that has all the locations of permanent speed cameras, areas where mobile traps are often located, red light cameras, and areas of hazard (hi-jack zones, bad roads etc.) These are GPX files that you can load onto your GPS using Garmins POILoader, and you can set to alert you when you either come within a certain radius of the point, or when you're travelling faster than the given speed limit (info included on each point). This information is updated by GPS users around South Africa. People email in new traps etc that are not on the data base. Sharing is caring! Great little tool to have! Cheers! I'll post more details on this in the new year!
