  1. For what its worth..... I do have the unlock code, original box, jewel case, proof of purchase, etc. The jewel case just happens to be missing disk 1. I did contact Garmin and they state that they no longer offer any old software after the new version comes out. Basically, I must pay the $100+ for version 6. Sorry about requesting the "backup" copy, I figured it wouldn't cause too much trouble in this circumstance. The only thing I can think of, is to buy another GPS V and keep the software and just resell it back on Ebay
  2. I still need this CD. I have the unlock code. I will pay $25 for someone's "backup" copy of disk 1. I can pay via Paypal or Neteller. I am going on a trip on Aug 4th and it would be really nice to have it by then. thanks
  3. I finally splurged and bought the Garmin V on ebay. Anyway, the jewel case was missing disk 1, and disk 2 is worthless without disk 1. I already have the unlock code. I just need disk 1. I am willing to pay someone a reasonable price if they have an extra. Please email me: davidseaton@hotmail.com thanks
  4. quote: From your cache description ...This cache will take some effort to reach, no free lunch here! It may not be tasty but it is free. Technically, you're suppose to leave something if you eat something, so I guess free isn't that appropriate. BTW, anyone want to fetch that container for me?

  8. Personally, I MUCH prefer the rural/hiking/mountain type caches to urban caches. When I drive out to the country and hike for a couple of miles, I expect to find decent stuff in the cache. I bring good stuff with me to trade. Knives are great in these type of caches. The chance of kids finding the cache at all is fairly minimal. The chance of kids finding the cache alone is almost nill. Urban caches are still enjoyable, and they are hard to turn down when there are a few available in your area. In these caches, knives are not appropriate. I expect junk in these, and that's what I find 80% of the time. I also think that alot of the "take nothing/left nothing finders" don't fess up to their trades/tradedowns. One last note - If you take a travel bug and leave nothing, it definitely degrades the cache. Often when people leave a bug they will grab something.
  9. To have those 6 caches into a 150 mile virtual is ridiculous and i doubt very many would even bother with it. It appears that you submitted them all in a row. My suggestion is this: Change the wording a little, perhaps a little more in the description and experiences of each cache location. Then submit them one at a time, every couple of days. I bet you'd get at least a couple of them approved. BTW, you need to get on this ASAP as I'm headed to yellowstone in 3 weeks good luck

  11. Belleterre, those are exactly the type of caches that I was expecting to find when I entered the coordinates for Yellowstone. As of now, I don't think there is even ONE cache in Yellowstone park. For 6 caches to be denied in a HUGE park is ludicrous IMHO. For a 100% contrast take a look at how many virtual caches are in Klamath Falls, city of 19,000. Most are within a mile of each other. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest_cache.asp?zip=97602&submit1=Submit To have that many approved over a tiny area and to have 6 ALL REJECTED in a gigantic park makes no sense, UNLESS there is some sort of pressure to keep caching out of Yellowstone.

  13. Forgive me if this topic has been beaten to death. I couldn't find much relevant information in my search. I know that regular caches are banned in National Parks, and although I disagree, I don't have any problem with that. Are virtual caches in National parks permitted? I am planning a trip to Yellowstone in a month and was surprised to not see a single one in my search.
  14. It is a serious handicap when geocaching. I find that the only reliable way to find a cache is to get within .02-.04 miles and let the GPS 'average' for a couple of minutes. I then get the bearing and look at a compass. Even in wide-open terrain, the pointer arrow isn't even close to being reliable. It sends me to the wrong side of the road/path all the time. I only rely on the pointer to get me close. I compared my GPS side to side with a newer GPS and the coordinates are usually behind by a couple of seconds when hiking around. I am thankful, however, that my GPS will eventually acquire the correct coordinates (just takes a while) and I can find the caches. (Only a couple of no-founds, but I came back later and found em). Anyway, my only point to this thread is whether or not anyone else experiences these difficulties?BTW my GPS is a Magellan ColorTrak (a few years old.)
